Another of Blakeston's brilliant, surreal thrillers
As with Oswell Blakeston's other mystery novels, this is no simple detective story. The two characters in the forefront of the narration are interacting on a different psychological level than the characters about which we are told via the reminiscence, or rather confession, of one of the two main protagonists. There is the usual depth of plot and characterization as with his other fiction works. This tale is not for those who require simple plots and outcomes: this is a novel which challenges the reader in subliminal ways.

Another curious and unpredictable psychological mystery
This book may be small, but, as usual, Blakeston's prose is densely woven and there are no threads of predictable narrative here. Blakeston's vivid creation of maladjusted characters is again evident; characters who must understand their nightmare scenarios and extricate themselves therefrom. This psychological treat is punctuated with minimalist b/w illustrations by Herbert Jones. Recommended for those who like their mysteries enigmatic.

Innovative, entertaining cookbook
Blakeston has provided in this book a fascinating collection of recipes, each with an exotic, unique aspect. Not only are the recipes well-described - his text provides a refreshing and entertaining accompaniment not usually found in cookbooks (his other writings included horror stories, detective mysteries, poetry and travel memoirs). This book is highly recommended for the jaded cook or would-be cook keen on exploring more adventurous (but not inaccessible) ground.
