Wolf is the best.
This book is awesome. Also, check out books by Scott Henderson (M.I. Press), Allan Holdsworth(Hal Leonard?), Scott Miller(Mel Bay), Sid Jacobs(Mel Bay), and Don Mock(Warner Bros.).

Wolf Marshall is doing it again! Now in Jazz
I have always admired the skills of Wolf Marshall in all his educating career, magazine articles, books...etc.; especially in the eightees when rock guitar was booming. But I never thought of Wolf as a real Jazz Author, so recently I purchased both 'Best of Jazz' and another on Wes Montogomery and to be honest I was skeptical that he would deliver!

I was 100% wrong and the books were fantastic and Wolf did it again! The quality of subscription, playing and production is super stuff. A must for any serious guitarist who passed the journey of Rock shredding, and now in the phase of playing classic jazz (Maybe getting a bit older as well!!)

Both books are highly recommended and I would grade them more than 5 stars, if that was available

Finally, Wolf if you write down any other books regarding Jazz, reserve me a copy.

An excellent how-to guide for playing the jazz guitar
Best Of Jazz Guitar is a remarkable, step-by-step presentation of jazz guitar styles and techniques, incorporating the music of famous guitarists such as Tal Farlow, Grant Green, Jim Hall, Joe Pass and many more. Filled cover to cover with accessible sheet music, each song in this volume is annotated with a very short biography of its author, step-by-step instructions for proper arrangement, signatures, and also performance notes to better help beginners. Also included is an audio CD to better help amateur musicians learn how to play at a professional level. Novice and intermediate jazz guitarists alike will appreciate this singularly excellent how-to guide for playing the jazz guitar.

variety of concepts
This is quite an interesting guide for those seeking for innovation in newspaper design. What makes it so interesting is the fact that it's assembled with pages and pages of newspaper desing around the world.
Good choise if browing for a change in your paper.

The World's Best Newspapers are in this Book.
I bought this book because I wanted to see the world's best newspaper designs. What I got is more than expected. Now I know what makes best newspapers. It's a combination of a lot of things. There are lessons to be learnt although the book is not a manual. Newspaper designers, editors, photographers and art directors better work together hand in hand to produce the highest quality newspaper or else.... I found that european newspapers are superb in the combination of news, art and design. What more can you ask if they can blend them so well in a newspaper. The American newspapers fares equally well with a combination of news and photos. For the Asian and the Pacific,... they had better catch up.

Essential for any journalist or designer's bookshelf.
What's the matter with newspapers these days? Not enough creativity, put simply. blah, blah, blah. this is THE book that will get those creative juices going from the very first glance. Gorgeous format photography (the eager and well-sighted can even read the articles) encompassing designs from around the globe, gloss paper and well written guidelines consolidate a book that is a pleasure to view and a pride to own. In previous years I have found it is not wise to lend - it takes ages to get the blessed book back!! A genuine and completely worthy investment, and absolutely recommended.

LEADING THE CORPORATE REVOLUTION
The Leadership Investment is all about greater expectations for potential leaders in the corporate environment. Utilizing some of the better companies in the business world today, Robert Fulmer and Marshall Goldsmith offer concrete examples and guides for producing an educational program within your corporation that will increase productivity and loyalty. Globalization of the economy, increasingly complex technology demands, the need to drive corporate strategy, the Internet, and e-commerce - these are just some of the forces pressing today's managers, CIO's and CEO's. Clearly, the very concept of what it means to be any of the aforementioned is undergoing a radical transformation. Now more than ever, corporate leadership is being asked - no, required to master many areas. Training and education programs are a must according to authors Fulmer and Marshall. Drawing on research done with a number of well known corporations such as Johnson & Johnson, HP, GE, Saturn and the World Bank, just to name a few, old style managers are becoming extinct, if not outdated. Based on their research, the authors indicate that today's managers are being asked to substantially increase their participation in shaping the strategic direction of the company, to accepting more responsibility for initiating business change projects and to become more aggressive in introducing new technology into the organization. Corporate universities are a strategic force that any company big or small must invest in, if they intend their managers, CIO's, CEO's and employees to become new-economy leaders.

Invaluable Insights
The Leadership Investment gives invaluable insights into the executive development and education programs of some of the best companies in the world. Each chapter delves deeply into the benefits of offering education programs, how these programs are set up in six of the world¹s top companies, and how the programs continue to grow and change with the times. These first chapters are a helpful guide to any company looking into setting up a corporate education program. Perhaps the most interesting sections of the book are the sections on leadership development firms and corporate universities, in that these sections reveal an alternative route to executive development. This book will be incredibly useful to any company in its efforts to set up a leadership development program.

A different format for Marshall
S.L.A. Marshall was an official historian for the Army during World War II, Korea and served as an advisor in Vietnam. Most of his work deals with the mental, physical, and emotional problems men faced in combat. He always wanted to show what did not work and why tactics failed in the hopes that people would learn from past mistakes. With that goal, Marshall tends to focus on the "bad" side of combat -- men dying needlessly and commanders who botched operations. Battle at Best is not one of his normal books. Marshall culled his interviews (all his research was carried out in the field with combatants who had just finished an action) and came up with examples that show great heroics. Instead of focusing on what went wrong, SLAM delves into what went right and how officers and men came to make the correct decisions. I am a great fan of Marshall's work and this, along with Men Again Fire, is the most enjoyable and enlightening books that I have read.

Great; please continue series
This is a terrific book. Every article in it is well-written and interesting, unusual for an anthology as they almost always contain at least one or two flawed pieces. Not here. And what a range...from the usual suspects of Fortune, Wall Street Journal, etc. to the Detroit Free Press and even Mother Jones. The next volume for 2002 is also great.

Timeless, well written, spiritual,
I believe Catherine Marshall is one of the best writers of the century as Ifeel she describes God as a friend--is honest about her doubts, spirituality--timeless in descriptions, makes readers want to know about how God works in lives without being preachy or holier than thou. Wonderful reading for those of us who have lost spouses. We need more books on younger widow raising children alone. Christy, first written 30 years ago is so timeless, it thrives today with at least l2 videos, l6 childrens adapted books. Catherine is talented in describing how God works in the lives of people in her books such as the young man with no money whom people helped through college. How her and her mother prayed for money to go to Agnes Scott college. Descriptions of how her mother, though poor cooked delicious meals--how the children played, how real God was to them and worked through their lives. Makes her husband Peter Marshalls sermons come alive and readers wishing they could have known him. All of her books have greatly enhanced my faith. thank you for including her books in your website.

Please read this book!!!!!!!!!
I read the book 'A man called Peter' last summer. It was a wonderful book, and I LOVED it!!!!!!!!! Then I decided to read some sermons by Dr. Marshall. I checked 'The best of Peter Marshall' out at my library and literally could not put the book down! I must say, they were at times challenging and convicting, but that's exactly what I needed. I love the way he got right to the point and said what you needed to hear without beating around the bush, but yet wasn't overbearing or boring. His sermons are full of humor and at times I found myself laughing out loud. I HIGHLY recommend this book, whether you have read 'A man called Peter', or have never even heard of Peter Marshall. You will enjoy this book if you are seeking God's will for your life.

Beautiful Joe (Early Best Sellers)

IF MORE PEOPLE READ THIS, OUR WORLD COULD BE A BETTER PLACE!
OK, seriously... this book leaves such an impact on every child I have seen that has read it. It teaches amazing compassion. It teaches the golden rule doesn't apply just to humans. It begs for people to be the best that they can. It is the basis for the credo of the humane society. It makes you think twice when you see a stray, heck, it makes you think when you look at a rat. There is no reason for a child not to be read this story, in fact several adults I know could benefit from it also. And read the sequel too... Beautiful Joe's Paradise (when the are all in heaven and all damaged/hurt creatures are restored! Even Barnum's elephant, Jumbo gets his tusks back...) Happy reading and get some Kleenex, if you cried in Black Beauty... you'll need it for this, too!

Calling All You Animal-Lovers!
When I first saw this book, I thought it would be a drag! I loved it! That just comes to show that you can't judge a book by it's cover. This book is great for animal-lovers it may look like a long book, but once you start reading it the hours fly by in a flash. This book is about a dog named Joe, his first owner is very cruel to him. His owner cuts off his ears and tail. To find out what happens to Joe read Beautiful Joe. I did this book for a book report, and I got a great grade on it. Read it you'll love it!

Beautiful Joe Changed My Life
Trying to raise a humane child? If so, you want this book. I didn't realize until I was an adult that Beautiful Joe is essentially a humane education "tract"--a series of quasi-essays on various types of animal abuse held together by the plot line of Miss Laura's attempts to stop animal cruelty. I was surprised by the realization, because I had understood Beautiful Joe as Literature with a capital L--the real stuff, the good stuff. And I'd argue that it is. Much like Black Beauty, it both fulfills and transcends its original object of educating and agitating in the service of animal rights. Each one of its characters and incidents has remained stamped in my mind and heart since I first read it as a child in the 70's. In fact, Beautiful Joe changed my life: today I rescue, rehabilitate, and find good homes for abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs. Every tear that I have shed over these dogs has its source in that first burst of childish grief for poor old Joe. He's a good dog--and he can count me among his good works.

Prepare for a LONG night of reading with this one...
My son absolutely adores George and Martha. You won't soon find a funnier couple in print. Just beware, your child will probably want you to read the ENTIRE book every night. This volume contains all of the stories that James Marshall ever wrote, so be sure to get comfy before you start reading this immensely enjoyable and hysterically funny collection.

Adults can appreciate this one as well...
I just recently came across the George and Martha stories, and I couldn't be happier that they're now released in a complete collection! Every child should be exposed to the witty, funny writing of James Marshall...he's a genius! His talent for capturing each character from simple drawings is uncanny, and the short stories make it easy for children to hear MORE! I haven't read these stories to a child yet who didn't love them. Don't let your children miss out on George and Martha - CLASSIC!

My favorite book in the whole entire world!!!!
As a second grade teacher I have read George and Martha to hundreds of seven and eight year olds. This book is about what true friendship really is. Knowing the stories by heart I sometimes double over laughing before I even read the page. When I ask, "Who's your teacher's favorite author?" Everyone responds, "James Marshall!!" This anthology was a true gift and one of my prized posessions. If I could have just one book on a desert island, this would be it.
