Wanting More!!!
I have fallen hard for this series! King is a master. His use of bits and pieces of "our" world provides a chilling touch. I know a lot of people did not like the "Wizard of Oz" touch, but I found it to add to the mystic that can only be Stephen King. He takes something that we are all familiar with, then twists it, gives it new dimension and makes it his own. I reread the first 3 books and then read this one all in a matter of 4 days. I can hardly wait for the next book! (although my family probably hopes it won't be out for a while yet) Please, Stephen, publish the next one! We're dying out here! Your writing is superb and makes me want to be a part of Roland's Ka-tet! Onward to the Dark Tower Mr. King! Onward! (very soon!)

A modern-day classic.
Stephen King may not be the most profound writer of our time, but I believe this series of books will be the ones that he is remembered for. He takes us on a journy with the last Gunslinger, Roland of Gilead, who is in search for the Dark Tower. The Dark Tower is the center of time and space...mayber even a doorway to other worlds. Roland has plowed West across Mid-World in search for the Dark Tower, set on saving his dying land. Will Roland ever find the fabled Dark Tower? We all hope so as we journy with him and his ka-tet. Another great thing about this series is how King has started to tie in his other novels with Roland's world. This a must read for any King fan... and even the people that don't like King. JUST GET IT.

A different kind of fantasy and sci-fi
I only started the series this summer, and now I'm done. Maybe its a good thing I didn't start this series in earlier years (seeing how long it took Mr.King to write the 4th book...I'd have died of impatience)The Dark Tower I: the Gunslinger is the best and most outstanding book in this series. It surpasses any other fantasy/sci-fi book I have ever read, thanks in due part to it's use of magical realism and use of the grotesque. King blends blue jeans with dark wizards, creating a fresh idea that isn't silly, but bizarre, and makes the brain do flips and doubletakes. The idea that all the universes in the (galaxy?) are centered around a nexus point (which is the dark tower) that is deteriorating, is the focus of the story. Roland is the man who is fated to save us all, with the power of ka. The Second book, the Drawing of the Three was simply great fun to read. Roland and his old and other-worldly ways, trying to mingle with twentieth century New York. The idea of doors between worlds isn't a new one, but somehow King manages to give it a push and a twist. The third book, The Waste Lands, is more horror driven (and you can see King's skills as an author of adult horror genre kicking in) but nevertheless keeps the eyes glued to the pages. Although I must say the ending was a bit abrupt. Who knows? Maybe its a marketing technique. It's really quite too bad not all editions come with illustrations though...

You'll need this book...
This book is a valuable tool for those taking the FTCE.It reviews every competency you'll need to know for this exam, including a neat summary of the basic psychological theories at the beginning of the book. I took this exam in 1998 without any prep book like this available and I did pass the exam. This book tells you the pass score needed. At the outset I was thrown by the questions, but the strategy I adapted apparently payed off.Going in, all I had to prepare me was the skimpy test booklet provided by the State of Florida certification division. But if you're really serious about getting through this exam at the first go, then this book is a must. I am now using this book as a tutoring aid when I coach others for this rather quirky exam. One quick hint for test-takers: this particular exam's questions are best answered by the process of elimination.Good luck!

Six unhelpful practice exams
Knowing AP Calculus AB would be a tough class and that the exam would be even harder, I bought this book before the first day of class. I anticipated using it as a quick reference throughout the year and for extensive review and practice as exam day neared.

I looked through the review section a few times during the year but it wasn't helpful when I missed a lecture or when I didn't understand a homework problem. Quite simply, my class notes were a much better source.

I left plenty of time to take all six practice exams included in this book-however, because the exams in this book were unhelpful, I ended up taking only one of them. The multiple-choice questions are much more difficult than they are on the actual exam. The answer choices for the non-calculator portions of the multiple-choice are in decimal form. I just took out my calculator for the last step of changing the exact answer to a decimal approximation. However, this seems like an obvious error that should never have been allowed to go to publication. It's typical of the quality of REA's "best test prep" series.

The free-response questions are closer to free-response questions on the actual exam, but the free-response sections of the practice tests are not divided into calculator and non-calculator portions as they are on the actual exam. Besides, you can download real past AP Calculus AB free-response exam questions from the College Board's website for free, so I wouldn't recommend paying for the ones in this book.

I found the practice exams in the Apex Learning and the Arco books much more helpful, so I recommend either of those instead of this one. Do not waste your money on this book.

great test material but not a good study guide
I purchased this book to help me study for the calculus ab test last year. The 6 tests they provide are very similar to the actual test, but the study material they provide is extremely weak. You should not buy this book for a study guide. But if you're looking for a test that will help you get familiar with the test, then this is the one.

Not bad. Decent Test Prep
First of all I can see where all the bad reviews are coming from. What you must first understand however is that this book is not the book you would want if you don't thoroughly understand Calculus. If you understand most of Calculus and you just want this for a review, this is a great book. It brushes up on pretty much everything you are going to need to know for the AP. There aren't very many explanations for the review, but like i said it is great if you just need to brush up on something you forgot. YOU NEED TO TAKE THE CALCULUS COURSE IF YOU ARE GOING TO GET THIS BOOK. I reccommend this to anyone with a good foundation in Calculus.
