Phyllis Bentley does an amazing job of telling the story of the Brontes' literary contributions in view of the time in history, the living conditions, and the settings in which the famed authors lived. All of these elements are eloquently combined and related to the literary and artistic contributions made by Charlotte, Emily, Anne and Patrick in early 19th-century England.
Bentley's writing style is straight-forward, and at times even a bit humorous. The photographs, drawings, and letters included on many pages of the book are fascinating and contribute greatly to a reader's enjoyment. For "light" reading in which you will truly learn something, I would highly recommend this book.
