Considers social, religious and economic issues alike
New York City's many Arab communities are perfect examples of the melting pot richness of the city, and A Community Of Many Worlds provides an informative account in partnership with the Museum of the City of New York, surveying New York's Arab populations and their characteristics. Seventeen essays consider social, religious and economic issues alike as they consider key issues of the Arab-American community in general and New Yorkers in particular.

It's not "Greek" to me anymore.
The cover and title of the book are inviting. The illustrations in the book are outstanding. It is a fun book for all ages, just not 4-8 year olds. This book is a helpful tool to learning and teaching about Greece. I am using the book in my classroom to help my children and myself learn the numbers in Greek and to learn more about Greece. This is a fun number book that not only helps the reader learn the numbers 1-10 in Greek, but the book also gives clear and important information about Greece.

My fiance is from Cyprus, an island off of Greece, and this book has helped me learn more about where he is from. I recommend this book to anyone no matter the age. I found the pronunciation guide at the back of the book and throughout the book, extremely helpful. The text was clear enough for children and adults to understand. I feel this book is inciteful in exploring different cultures. I highly advise teachers to buy this book when studying about different parts of the world. Haskins and Benson also have other counting books for many other countries.

A very interesting biography on Guion Bluford
This biography was very well written. I myself liked it a lot. I especially liked it because it didn't just explain the general idea of what Guion Bluford's life was mainly about, it explaned a step by step story of his whole life. It started when he was born (November 22, 1942) 'til one year after he stepped off the space shuttle Challenger (somewhere in the 1980's).

Thorough book and very descriptive
I had to use this book for a college class I was taking (Anatomy
and Physiology) and I was surprised by the great detail and thoroughness of this book. I was highly impressed!
This lab book contains many different exercises to help you comprehend some of the difficult strutures and functions of the body.
A must for all those taking A&P in college!

Count Your Way Through France
My daughter used this book as a resource for her 2cd grade report on France. The book was very entertaining and interesting. It was great for her to show the children in her class. Information was in terms she could appreciate and understand, illustrations were nice as well. It served the purpose wonderfully.

Very informative but....
I sensed that the author had something against Maria Cole, Nat's widow. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but that's the feeling I got. Overall, though, the book is good. You will want to read more about Nat's life, and after finishing this book, that's just what I did. For a more current view and more thorough explaination of the events that happened to Nat, I recommend the Epstein biography on Cole. These two together give you a very good depiction of the man.

A Book for Insomniacs
This book, though filled with a treasure of information, ranks along beside college text books for interest. This would be good for one researching facts about this fascinating person, but not for those of us who wish to know the man himself.

Very informative, but....
I sensed that the author had something against Maria Cole, Nat's widow. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but that's the feeling I got. I'm sure she felt she was doing the best thing to help her husband, but others suffered for it. I was thinking that she could have been the female version of Berry Gordy, Jr! She was painted as a overbearing shrew. Overall, though, the book is good. There are some small errors in it, however. You will want to read more about Nat's life, and after finishing this book, that's just what I did. For a more current view and more thorough explaination of the events that happened to Nat, I recommend the Leslie Gourse and (especially) the Daniel Epstein biographies on Cole. These three books together will give you great insight into the man, his music, and his life. Now if we could only get a movie made!!

This Man Deserves This Exposure!!!
Nat King Cole was a terrific jazz pianist and, contrary to his own belief, a great vocalist. This book says so much about how business is conducted within the music industry, the laymen's wages of "side" musicians, the struggle to maintain family while fulfilling an artist's dream, and all of this topped by fame during a time of severe racial inequality. Read it and learn!!!!

Is this the book you're looking for?
This book chronicles African American colonial history. It tells of individuals and events. There is a timeline at the end. This is the third in a series that may grow to include six volumes. The acrylic paintings illustrate the text. ... Although this is an important book, filling a historical void, its use may be limited. The book has the size and look of a picture book, but the content is mature and the text is college level. It is listed for grades 2-5, in my opinion it is neither read alone nor read aloud for that group. Perhaps teachers could use it as a source.
