The first of his photo books: LOTS OF GREAT PHOTOS!!!
Benson captures many great moments, many of which are centered around the time of '64. Lots of photos from Paris, shows them walking around in the streets, in the hotel, even writing! He had the opportunity to go behind the scenes, and he did a good job in taking advantage of it. Wonderful book!

Great pictures!
Some books are good because they're very well written. But in the case of this one, every fan will love it because it has impressive pictures on it. Harry Benson traveled with the Beatles and was very close to their environment, and so got the chance to capture lots of nice moments in paper. I recommend it to every one!

Harry Benson is a knowledgeable photographer, & not arrogant
I checked this book out at the library and now have to have a copy of my own! Benson is an excellent photojournalist who does a superb job at transferring years of experience into an accessible book.

In each section of this well-written book, Benson presents a useful mix of his own photography with personal ancedotes and specific lists of how-to's. The photos are useful for showing some of the great moments that can be caught on film, as well as for giving the newer photographer something to aspire towards. Mixed in with the photo sections are pages of up-front writing about how Benson acheived what you are looking at. He is honest and doesn't use this section to make himself appear better than any other photographer. Finally, he includes how- to sections on each topic: rules of the game, the assignment, equipment, mobility, photographing people, competing under pressure, essays and sequences, developing a style, and from street to studio.

I highly recommend this book to any photographer. Even if you are not specifically interested in photojournalism, Benson's hints will be helpful to you in your day-to-day work with any photography including people.

Brilliant!
David Duke's MY AWAKENING is a surprisingly well-researched, scholarly account of one American's perspective on race relations in America. I say "surprisingly", because Duke has been relentlessly, and erroneously, portrayed as a "dangerous extremist" by the so-called objective media. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is refreshing to finally see a white Christian American patriot standing up for the rights, interests, and culture of America's majority population in such a thorough fashion. I was particularly impressed by the comprehensive sources section. My only complaint is the occasional focus on Jews and the Talmud. Who cares? Yes, many Jews are left-wing, but so are many Christians. I have many right-wing Jewish friends, some of them college instructors, who share the same views as expressed in this book. So why piss off and alienate a potential group of sympathisers by obsessing about Judaism? That's my only criticism of an otherwise excellent work. Buy this book for your family and friends, send or lend copies to everyone you know: police officers and servicemen, businessmen, housewives, parents, politicians, etc.. This book deserves to be read by everyone. I predict that it will become a set textbook for the coming counter-revolution in America and Europe. Well done David!

the ring of truth
this is a book that bleeding heart liberals dont want you to read, and with good reason.they want you to dismiss david duke as the narrow minded racist that the mainstream media has made him out to be.even most right wing conservatives are reluctant to discuss the sensitive issues mr. duke covers for fear of being labeled a racist !well after reading mr. dukes' honest, fair and well documented book on the important and sensitive issue of race, race relations and the role of the media and government in controlling the public perception of these issues i can honestly say that this book could be one of the most important books you will ever read!as you read you get a feel for the type of decent, honest, caring person david duke is. a person who is motivated by ,not hate as the mainstream media would lead you to believe, but by love of family and love of mankind.dont be afraid to read this book! after you do you will be able to discuss the issue of race without the fear of being labeled a racist because you will have the facts and the truth on your side! i am glad that david duke had the courage to write this important book.now you should have the courage to read it!

A challenging book for an open-minded reader
As a student of history, I have to say I'm deeply impressed with David Duke's research in this book. With over 1000 footnotes encompassing vast amounts of books, studies, articles, etc., Duke has constructed not only a convincing argument, but an emotional and rational one as well. Everybody knows that the media loves to make people like Rep. Duke out to be some sort of ignorant hick that wants to kill every minority and Jew. Nothing could be further from the truth. What David Duke preaches in this book is LOVE of Race. And not just love of the White Race, as Duke repeatedly emphasizes that all races should love their own heritage and culture.

Duke shatters leftist arguments over IQ, Jewish Supremicism, and the Holocaust. What's amazing is that his arguments are so common sense, something the Left has not been able to do. The reader finds himself continually challenged by Duke's assertions and has the ability, through the extensive footnotes, to check out the sources for himself. I was especially impressed with Rep. Duke's account of his worldly travels, and his concern for the poor and downtrodden, while realizing that this is what could happen to the West if we don't put a stop to dangerous and irresponsible practices, like nearly unrestricted third-world immigration. I especially enjoyed how Duke read Greek writers like Herodotus in the ruins of a Greek temple in a communion with the past glories of our Race. Since I have extensively studied Greece and Rome, I too would like to do that one day!

This book is a VERY persuasive treatise on what ails Western Man as we embark on a trip into the 21st century. Will Western Man still be here in 100 years? If something isn't done to address the problems presented in this book, we could well go the way of the carrier pigeon.

Harry S. Truman and the Founding of Israel
Published in Hardcover by Praeger Publishers (July, 1997)
Author: Michael T. Benson
Amazon base price: $69.95

Dirty Harry a man of deep moral conviction?
While the author heaps truckloads of eulogies about "honor, integrity and deep moral convictions" on a man whom Gen. Douglas MacArthur should have hanged as a traitor, the fact is, it was Truman's flagrant disregard for the U.S. Constitution that gave him the "fortitude" to support the invasion of a foreign nation. The 1st Amendment, as we all know, clearly states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..." While everyone is at liberty to endorse and support whatever religious cause or organization they choose, our government is supposed to remain neutral on such matters. As was the case with Harry "atomic bomb" Truman, left wingers always refer to the first amendment when it serves their purpose to subvert our institutions but always flagrantly violate it when it is convenient for them to do so. To refer to Harry Truman, who was directly responsible for the systematic slaughter of American soldiers during the Korean War, the Massacre at Hiroshima, the betrayal of China to his Communist friends, the communising of Europe, as a man motivated by deep moral conviction, humanitarianism, etc, is enough to make anyone puke.

Harry S. Truman and the Founding of Israel
Everyone knows that Harry Truman provided help to the Zionists because he could count votes, and there were few Arab votes in 1948. That, anyway, is the thesis developed by John Snetsinger in 1974 and since repeated ad nauseum. Well, it turns out not to be true. In a masterful and exciting presentation, Benson proves that Truman's policies resulted not from nose-counting but from deeply-held beliefs. His pro-Israel outlook 'was based primarily on humanitarian, moral, and sentimental grounds, many of which were an outgrowth of the president's religious upbringing and his familiarity with the Bible.' Extensive research into Truman's biography and earlier career shows his impressive consistency. Benson, of the University of Utah, establishes Truman as a studious child and deeply religious young man who, when he unexpectedly found himself in the Oval Office, lived faithfully by his precepts. In the case at hand, he expressed sympathy for Zionism as early as 1939 and reiterated his views many times subsequently. Truman's determination had great importance; of the many momentous issues in his presidency, he personally involved himself most directly with what he called the 'puzzle of Palestine.' In Benson's words, these personal interventions against the entirety of the American foreign policy establishment 'constantly rescued' the Jews from defeat. The author concludes that the standard account of Truman risking U.S. security interests for cheap political advantage is deeply unfair to this most moral and honorable of American presidents.

Middle East Quarterly, September 1998

An Intriguing Look at the Influence of Religion on Politics
Most of us in America presume that religious convictions are checked at the doors of our governmental offices. Benson's book articulates exactly how Truman's deep religious convictions guided--even determined--the U.S. policy toward Isral, leading to the official recognition of its independence. Without that recognition, the Nation of Israel might not have lasted a week--let alone 50 years.

This book is a slightly modified version of Benson's Oxford University Ph.D. dissertation. There he studied Modern Middle Eastern History.

As an academic work, the research is absolutely unmatched, with dozens of references and footnotes for each chapter. The author interviewed several prominent people who knew Truman and participated in the development of the policy toward Isreal.

More importantly, however, the book is accessible to any well-read student of American History. Anyone who is a fan of Truman will love the book; those not already enthusiastic supporters of the! late President, will likely become such after reading Benson's account.

In a country where well over 90% of the population awows a faith in God, it should be reassuring to know that a leader's faith influences his politics and policy-making.
