In each section of this well-written book, Benson presents a useful mix of his own photography with personal ancedotes and specific lists of how-to's. The photos are useful for showing some of the great moments that can be caught on film, as well as for giving the newer photographer something to aspire towards. Mixed in with the photo sections are pages of up-front writing about how Benson acheived what you are looking at. He is honest and doesn't use this section to make himself appear better than any other photographer. Finally, he includes how- to sections on each topic: rules of the game, the assignment, equipment, mobility, photographing people, competing under pressure, essays and sequences, developing a style, and from street to studio.
I highly recommend this book to any photographer. Even if you are not specifically interested in photojournalism, Benson's hints will be helpful to you in your day-to-day work with any photography including people.

From the Beatles to the Bush family, this book has it all. It will be the best gift under the tree of any Beatles fan, and it also has great pictures of your favorite celebs and politicians. Harry Benson was voted one of the top photographers in the world in a recent photo magazine, and it is easy to see why. I don't know if Benson should be called a photojournalist, an artist, or a celeb. himself--he is all of that and more. This is a must for anyone who loves the Beatles, and it is a must on your Christmas list. Check it out! Harry Benson is the best.

Duke shatters leftist arguments over IQ, Jewish Supremicism, and the Holocaust. What's amazing is that his arguments are so common sense, something the Left has not been able to do. The reader finds himself continually challenged by Duke's assertions and has the ability, through the extensive footnotes, to check out the sources for himself. I was especially impressed with Rep. Duke's account of his worldly travels, and his concern for the poor and downtrodden, while realizing that this is what could happen to the West if we don't put a stop to dangerous and irresponsible practices, like nearly unrestricted third-world immigration. I especially enjoyed how Duke read Greek writers like Herodotus in the ruins of a Greek temple in a communion with the past glories of our Race. Since I have extensively studied Greece and Rome, I too would like to do that one day!
This book is a VERY persuasive treatise on what ails Western Man as we embark on a trip into the 21st century. Will Western Man still be here in 100 years? If something isn't done to address the problems presented in this book, we could well go the way of the carrier pigeon.
Middle East Quarterly, September 1998
This book is a slightly modified version of Benson's Oxford University Ph.D. dissertation. There he studied Modern Middle Eastern History.
As an academic work, the research is absolutely unmatched, with dozens of references and footnotes for each chapter. The author interviewed several prominent people who knew Truman and participated in the development of the policy toward Isreal.
More importantly, however, the book is accessible to any well-read student of American History. Anyone who is a fan of Truman will love the book; those not already enthusiastic supporters of the! late President, will likely become such after reading Benson's account.
In a country where well over 90% of the population awows a faith in God, it should be reassuring to know that a leader's faith influences his politics and policy-making.
