I cannot believe that people mistake these sort of trendy gimmicks like hypnosis for serious therapy. Forty years of outcome research shows that the therapeutic relationship, client characteristics and extratherapeutic events are what produce change in clients. Placebo effect has been found to be an important factor in promoting successful change as well, and in this light, hypnosis, EMDR and other snake oil cures might have some benefit. They do not belong in an ethical or serious providers office otherwise. The book provides no outcome studies or research that shows the efficacy of the voodoo being prescribed. I believe that hypno-"therapy" is often used by clincians who are unable or unwilling to make the close human connections required for truly effective therapy. For those who do not have human skills, finger waving or clock watching is the ticket. The book is also not well written: perhaps the lack of interest it generates in the reader is intentional. I, for one, felt like I had fallen into a deep sleep while reading about the seemingly endless, mechanical techniques. In conclusion, unless you have a wobbly table or need a cure for insomnia, save your money and buy a well-written book that offers some hope of change written by a therapist with concerns for his human clients, like Scott Miller or Albert Ellis.

When we take into consideration what this book is supposed to be, that is, a guide to deeper and more productive inductions, the Handbook fills this niche very well.

Those who purchase this book expecting to pour over case after case of imperical data proving the efficacy of hypnotherapy are obviously incapable of reading editorial reviews. This book is not intended to be a scientific journal of double blind tests and control experiments. Indeed, neither the authors nor any reviewer claim such. As has been made clear, this Handbook is merely meant to augment the therapist's own style and present alternatives to techniques for patients that prove to be resistant or not as highly suggestible as others.

For imperical data, consult the New England Journal. For those who have actually studied hypnosis and wish to help their clients break through barriers they thought unachievable, the Handbook is a valuable asset.

The encyclopedic nature of this text shows a careful and complete overview of the field in addition to the practical applications gleaned from years of actual use of these methods. This book a must-have for the practitioner looking to enhance their therapeutic techniques.

Unlike another reviewer, who obviously has never used hypnosis in his practice, hypnosis in therapy, whether as a primary or adjunctive modality, has been proven to be a HIGHLY interpersonal therapy and, when used correctly, a highly effective modality as well in my practice and in those of others as well. That reviewer would do well to do a better review of the literature before pronouncing hypnosis as "snake-oil." Highly recommended.

I used the 7th Edition in a graduate course in statistics and was frustrated both by the text's poor organization and its failure to present key statistical concepts clearly. I had to resort frequently to other sources to clarify topics that were poorly presented in the Prentice Hall text, and tended to find much simpler explanations outside of the text. The problem sets are particularly troublesome, as many of them do not appear to relate to the section in which they are contained and insufficient explanations are offered in the answer key. I recommend you look elsewhere.

After buying the seventh and the eighth edition of Statistics for Business and Economics. The two are pretty much the same. So, save your money, and fight back the publishing company by not purchasing this book.

Maliciously delightful. Benson's collection of sketches has barely aged; the frauds & snobs he dissects are still with us. Readers of the "Lucia" books will recognize prototypes of the characters he would later present in greater detail.

The illustrations are a witty variation on themes from Beardsley.

There were errors all throughout the book. Two of the critical tables in the back were either incomplete or incorrect. The author clearly has no idea how make concepts clear, nor were the definitions and examples adequate. The answers in the back of the book are not detailed and provide no examples of how the answers were derived.

The companion CD-ROM was useless. It contained numbers and information that had to be manually re-entered into a useable format. Examples on the CD were as unuseable as the text.

The Student Solutions Manual that is recommended for this book provides neither definitions nor examples.

This book, I hesitate to call it a textbook, should be removed from any school curriculum.

I wish I could rate it with negative stars. This book would receive -3 stars.

I found this introductory statistics textbook as a very appropriate companion when taking an intro statistics course. The author does a good job on making concepts clear with definitions along with detailed examples. The selected answers in the back of the book unfortunately are not detailed and do not give the student steps on how the answer was derived. The printouts of software experiments using SAS, SPSS, MINITAB, etc, in the text, I found very useful and supplemental in learning the material. It clearly describes and shows the steps on how the projects were performed on the specified software application.

Unfortunately, the companion CD-ROM was a disappointment. Rather than being full of clear and well thought out examples and definitions, it instead contains some bland text along with confusing examples.

Besides the companion CD-ROM, the textbook itself is well planned out with clearly written text and straightforward examples.

After waiting feverishly for this music book to arrive, I realized immediately on its receipt that it wasn't written in guitar tabulature, but standard notation. Since I don't read standard notation, it might as well be in braille. And because I know Benson uses some pretty interesting chords, the simple chords they use in the book can't possibly be right. If you're looking for a TABULATURE version of his work, look elsewhere.
