Days Are Where We Live and Other Poems
Days Are Where We Live: and other poems is a wonderful collection of cheerful and uplifting poems for children. The poems in this anthology deal with everyday things that children do and see such as whistling and bathing.
This anthology of poems is set at the level of younger children. The authors use simple words and also a lot of alliteration and repetition to help young readers to learn these poems. The poems also appeal to the reader's emotions. The main emotion of focus in these particular poems is humor. The authors took everyday things that children do and turned them into a very fun and joyous experience. The poem After A Bath by Aileen Fisher is an example of this. She makes the chore of taking a bath a little less painful by comparing how the child dries off with that of his dog.
The rhythm of the poems throughout this book is very smooth. The book begins with the child waking up for the long day ahead of them. It then takes them through the experiences that they may encounter throughout any particular day. The book then ends with poems about bedtime stories and getting tucked into bed. The illustrations for the poems also make the book flow rather well. Every poem has an illustration about what is going on in that particular poem. The illustrations are very suitable for the younger age levels because they are very simple and do not clutter up the pages. The illustrations also help portray the humor in the poems as well.
Children of the younger age levels will find reading this book to be a very good experience. This anthology will help introduce poetry to children in a fun and exciting way.

GET THIS BOOK BACK IN PRINT!!!!!!!!!
This is a wonderful, concise, poetry book for children. The chosen poems are very appealing to children, yet not trite...a wonderful introduction to rich poetry. I read this book so often to my kids, I've memorized a lot of the poems. But, alas, the copy has been irretrievably lost and I cannot find another. I teach second grade and need a new copy. GET THIS BOOK BACK IN PRINT SO I CAN BUY IT!!!!

Review of Seaside Poems
Being someone who loves the ocean I loved reading poems about them. Even though they are directed towards children I still enjoyed reading them. The pictures were bright and colorful. They made you want to get up and do to the beach! My favorite poem was "Goodness gracious" because it reminded me of my grandmother. When we would visit her in Florida she would always swim laps in ocean and all we could see was her bright swimming cap. All of the poems in this book are fun to read. They poems range from getting sand in you lunch, to sea shells and rocks, and to the boats in the harbor. These would be great to read to a young class if your teaching them about the ocean.

Dig,Dig,Dig!
Have you ever thought of being chased by three mangy farmers? That's what happened in the book Fantastic Mr. Fox, by Roald Dahl. In this book, Mr. Fox and his family try to escape from three farmers Boggis, Bunce, and Bean. Towards the middle of the book, Mr. Fox and his children sneak food from Boggis, Bunce, and Beans' storage houses. I liked it when Mr. Fox and his children find Boggis' chicken house #1. I also liked it when all the animals had a great feast. The words in this book are great because you can picture the setting in your head. The message Roald Dahl shared with me was never give up on trying to find your way. Will Mr. Fox and his family escape from three grouchy old farmers? Find out in this great book. But don't take my word for it! Read it yourself!

Fantastic Mr. Fox
I recommend this book because it's funny. I liked the drawings by Roald Dahl because they are silly. Boggis, Bunce and Bean are three mean farmers trying to kill Mr. Fox because he keeps on taking their food. Mr. Fox out-smarts them by making them think he is one place when he is another. I especially liked when Mr. Fox and his friends had a feast because no one can hurt them, and I can't believe that the farmers are still waiting for Mr. Fox to come out. (They are probably skeletons and bones by now!) For anybody who didn't read this book, I think you should read it.

Three farmers try to dig up Mr. Fox and his family
I wish I had read Roald Dahl when I was a lad, because his ingenious and irreverent children's books would have been of great help in warping my fragile little mind. "Fantastic Mr. Fox" is Dahl's take on the "garden tale" popularized by Beatrix Potter. We are introduced to a trio of farmers; "Boggis and Bunce and Bean / One fat, one short, one lean. / These horrible crooks / So different in looks / Were nonetheless equally mean." The trio raises chickens, geese and turkeys respectively and are the favorite target of Mr. Fox when he goes out each night to fetch a meal for his family. Finally the farmers band together, try using what little brains they have, and go after Mr. Fox with guns, then shovels, and eventually mechanical shovels, forcing our hero to use all his wits and wiles to keep his family safe from the humans.

Anybody who is old enough to read will enjoy this story, but it is probably targeted at younger children. The villains are comical enough not to be too terrifying; actually, they are just stupid and gross (would you really stuff a doughnut with goose livers?). What will appeal to children is how Mr. Fox keeps his family safe by staying one step ahead of the three farmers. But then the story takes an interesting turn, because he also ends up helping the entire community of animals as well, providing a most satisfying ending of living happily ever after (except for the three farmers, who deserve their less glorious fate). Such a noble and intelligent creature.

"Fantastic Mr. Fox" was originally published in 1970, and I have been toying around with possible allegorical meanings to the tale being told, but nothing really fits well enough to actually make a case at this point in time. Sometimes a children's story is just a children's story and animals outsmart humans because that is the way of such things in the magical world of children's literature. The illustrations by Quentin Blake suit the story perfectly and become an integral part of the story when the terrible tractors are brought in do dig up Mr. Fox and his family. Note: There is a play version of "Fantastic Mr. Fox," adapted by Sally Reid.

If You Like Friendship This is a Great Book for You!
Danny, the Champion of the World
By Roald Dahl

Are two heads better than one? Find out in Danny, the Champion of the World.

Danny and his father live in a small caravan next to his father's business, the filling station. Mr. Hazzel is rude, greedy and rich; he owns all the property except one little piece. One night Danny and his father go out to take all the pheasants from Mr. Hazzel's property before Mr. Hazzel's shooting party can begin. Will Danny and his father catch all the pheasants in time? Find out in Danny, the Champion of the World.

I like this book because it shows caring between Danny and his father. Danny and his father stick together like true friends. The pictures I see are in my mind; they're black and white but very detailed.

The author tries to teach you that by sticking together, anything is possible. You should really read this book.

Best book I've ever read.
Danny, the champion of the world is an awesome book. The book leaves you hanging at the end of chapters. It is full of suspense. It's about a boy whose mother died, and lives with his dad in a old gypsy wagon. His dad is a nice guy. He and Danny do lots of things together. Danny lives a good life until school comes and worst of all he finds out his dads deep dark secret. Then comes Hazels woods. Danny gets an ides that is very good. Then his father and him go on an adventure. Read the book to find out if his dads secret is good or bad? I really enjoyed the book. I've read it 8 times. I think you should read it because it has a little bit of humor a little bit of sadness and a little bit of action. So READ THE BOOK!!!!!!!

Danny Champion of the World
The book Danny Champion of the World is written by Roald Dahl. Danny and his dad live in the country of England. When Danny was a baby his mother died, so he lived with his dad in an old gypsy caravan. Danny's dad owns and works at the filling station on the only piece of land that his dad owns. Everything else, Mr. Victor Hazel owns. Watch out! Danny's dad has a secret that Danny will soon find out. Danny and his dad have a really good relationship. One night, Danny found out about his dad's secret. Danny's dad had been poaching pheasants at night over in Mr. Victor Hazel's woods. Danny didn't know how to react to this phenomenon. Danny found out about the secret in the caravan. They both live in the caravan. The land, which they live on, is a small piece of land that is surrounded by Mr. Victor Hazel's land. Mr. Victor Hazel is the owner of the brewery. He is the one who owns all the pheasants.

The book Danny Champion of the World is a great book to read. The book is not too much of a mystery. I don't like mysteries too much. This book is very surprising. The book is also not too boring at all. Once you think it's going to be boring something fantastic always happens. I think you might really like this book.

Ordinary Jack (Isis Large Print for Children Windrush)

This whole series is terrific for both kids and adults
I'm surprised this series was allowed to go out of print here....I think it's still available in England and maybe elsewhere.

The first book seems slightly different from and even inconsistent with the rest, maybe because the author hadn't developed the characters fully yet. However, it's still as good-it's hard to say which are the best, they're all great.

The Bagthorpes are an eccentric family of geniuses-make that genii-except for Jack, who is incurably ordinary. In the first book he causes a lot of trouble by trying to get noticed; in the others he mostly lets the rest of the family wreak their own havoc, and they do very well. There's Grandma, the trouble-making matriarch who cheats at very game she plays; dreamily poetic Aunt Celia, who's never quite of this world; Celia's daughter Daisy, who is allowed to set fires, write on the walls, and conspire with her imaginary friend Arry Awk; and Mr. Bagthorpe, the bitter, tormented television script writer.

The things they survive (including Fire and Flood and a Haunted House) make for hilarious reading, not to mention lots of great quotes. The tone of the books is a delightful combination of endlessly droll and deadpan/detached.

VIVA Bagthorpes!
How COULD they have stop printing these books? I have loved the Bagthorpes since I first got Ordinary Jack as a kid and wanted to get the Bagthorpe series for my niece and friends who are having children. Even though I was labeled "gifted" as a child, Jack is readily identifiable and the books are written with such a gentle humor that they are well worth fighting for.

Really, are we supposed to let "Sweet Valley High" set the tone for our pre-adolescents?

The first in a hilarious series
If P.G. Wodehouse had been writing novels for young readers during the last quarter of the 20th century, he might have come up with something like "Ordinary Jack," the first in Helen Cresswell's series The Bagthorpe Saga. Jack, a hopelessly conventional and normal boy stuck in the middle of the madcap, eccentric Bagthorpe family, known for their prodigious achievements, wonders how he can ever get himself noticed. Uncle Parker, not so brilliant himself, sympathizes and comes up with a plan: Jack will become a prophet and go in for such mystical pursuits as visions, water divining, crystal-ball gazing and Tarot-card reading. Of course, all sorts of complications and much hilarity ensue. This very funny book and its six sequels can be found in British paperback editions and ordered from Amazon.co.uk.

The Genius African Grey Parrot
Are you looking for a marvelous animal fantasy story? Then that's "Harry's Mad" by Dick King-Smith is just the book for you. The main characters are Harry and his parrot, Madison. Harry is very brave to go to Washington D.C to get Madison and to dare to finally talk to Madison. This talking African Gray Parrot is very clever because he knows about presidents and he also knew how to fly away from the thief who kidnapped him. The story takes place in London because that's when Harry tries to find Madison. This is a modern time story because everything in the story is not about anything in the past. The story is about a young boy name Harry. After his great uncle, George died he had to take care of his great uncle, George's parrot which is an African Grey Parrot name Madison. Mad is a genius and knows how to talk very well. One day Madison got kidnapped by a thief and no one knew. What wells Harry do and how long would Madison have to stay with the thief? I recommend this book because this book has my favorite kind of parrot that is call an "African Grey Parrot." Also in each chapter in this book it always makes me wants to keep on reading. Now you know what's Harry's Mad about. You might want to get this book or buy this book so you could start reading this outstanding animal fantasy story now!

Is Harry Really Mad?
Harry's Mad, a breath taking animal fantasy, by a clever author, Dick King-smith is a tremendous tale. Harry is a young fun-loving boy who received an intelligent, gray, African parrot from his Great-Uncle George who passed away. Madison, or Mad for short, is a strange parrot that can talk and provide help like no other bird, but strangers can't hear this secret or Mad is in trouble. Harry, the owner of this amazing bird, worries when Mad is stolen and kidnapped by a burglar. Harry and his parents send out descriptions in the newspaper and try many things. Nobody knows what happened until...
This book takes place in a variety of places in London, Harry's house, White Hart Lane, and Trafalgar Square. I would definitely recommend this perfect parrot book any time. It is full of good descriptions and has funny and smart scenes.

an AWESOME book
I chose this book because in the past I read another book by the same author. This book takes place in Paris, France. There are four main characters. The characters are Mom, Dad, Madison, the African Gray Parrot. I like Madison the most because he can talk and play more games than the average parrot, and because madison is the center of the whole story. The story begins when Harry inherits an African Gray Parrot, named Madison, from his Great Uncle George. harry spends much time with the parrot, and becomes attached to him. One day, when no one was home, a burglar breaks in and steals Madison. While Madison is at the robber's house alone, he calls the police. The policeman could not believe what madison told him because Madison's stoy was unbelievable. Madison had even told the police man that he was 9 inches tall. Later in the story Madison manages to pry a hole in the chimney and get away. Going up the chimney he got covered in suit and could not fly. Then you should read the book to see what happens next. I thoght this was a great story. i would reccomend this book to you to read
