Enrico Caruso, his life and death

seen from somebody who knew him
The book is written by Carusos wife, who he married 3 years before he died . She describes therefore in great detail and citing many letters by him their life and what happened, how is character was etc. She carefully leaves his private life before their marriage out (get this in "my father and my family" by Enrico Caruso jr.:-), but nevertheless - the book is great to read. The first book she wrote about him, shortly after his death (wings of song) is good too and is may be a little bit closer to truth. But to read Carusos letters in this book here is already worth the while....

More than just Disney in Orlando... check it out!
If theme parks just ain't your thing, here's an interesting book for the Orlando-bound traveler. Brotemarkle's uncovered hundreds of fascinating sites that most Florida visitors never even consider on their way to Space Mountain. Art festivals, unique architecture, and a fabulous historical legacy abound in central Florida; see them and support them before they're all paved over.

There is so much more than Disney here
Mr. Brotemarkle is an expert in what the arts have to offer in the tourist capital of the south. His knowledge of all kinds of sites is amazing from opera, to historic sites to museums. He does this with a breezy style that makes of good reading and is a must if you live here and have visitors all the time. I got sick of the big parks years ago, so now I take my friends places like Leu Gardens, and museusm.

Local culture and history done well
Ben Brotmarkle has covered the local art/culture scene for Central Florida for the last 7 years on WMFE radio, so he has a good grasp of the material. This is a great book for locals who want ideas on other places to go besides the big theme parks, and for visitors to know the depth of the local scene. A good buy for anyone who lives here or plans on visiting....

worth reading
This book details the doctor's life through his training, life-long interest in parasitology, Panama, Park Avenue practice, treatment of the Shah, etc. It is a well-written and fascinating book, told with humor. He's not afraid to tell of his times of inexperience, weakness, and mistakes.

Great humor...
Kean is an excellent writer for a doctor... the book flowed very well and never got boring or tedious, despite the fact he was presenting a lot of medical evidence... Great read for anyone interested in infectious diseases or how medicine and politics can get tangled.

Medical Detective
The author is a parasitologist, who had a fascinating career. I love medical detective books of all kinds, fiction and non-fiction - this is the best I have read.

The Wetherills of the Mesa Verde: Autobiography of Benjamin Alfred Wetherill

A Factual Autobiography of an early Western Archaelogist
This autobiography, supported by extensive documentation, depicts the Wetherill brothers as men who became totally committed to the scientific study of the Anasazi culture of Mesa Verde.Unlike the portrayal of early 20th century histotians, who accused the brothers of plundering the dwellings and felt the Wetherills were mere pot hunters, Al sets the record straight, and supports it with factual materials. Another interesting volume (not in the Amazon inventory) is "Anasazi, the Biography of Richard Wetherill." As a distant relative of the men, I found both works to accurately depict life in the Mesa Verde and Chaco Canyon areas in the 1890'

A Woman hero that young girls can aspire to be.
This big book biography is a great way to introduce the life of Rosa Parks to emergent readers. The book begins with the showcasing of Rosa's humble beginnings as a small child and concludes with the epic struggle of the Montgomery Bus Boycott. In spite of the controversial issues of race relations between white and black people, neither group is portrayed in a negative manner. Although the graphic showing of houses being burn to the ground by the KKK will and may provoke questions by young readers who in all likelyhood are beginning to understand the historical conflicts of America. Because of its big size, and this book is "immense," no listener who is within 20 feet away will say that he or she cannot see the pictures. Notwithstanding, the pictures could have been more colorful.
