From a Recent Still Convert
A few of my favorite painters are contemporaries of Still, so I saw it as my duty to see the Hirschhorn exhibition. Well, I picked a dead day and had the show to myself and simply put I am now a fan. The book is great and David Anfam's addition to the book is especially enlightening about the work of Still.

From a new Clifford Still fan:
I am a painter who has largely avoided Clifford Still but this book has turned me into a great admirer. Particulary influential was the contribution by David Anfam, the art historian who was responsible for the magnificent, award-winning Mark Rothko catalogue raisonne. Anfam's essay is insightful, far-reaching, beautifully written with poetic underpinnings, a pleasure to read. All you'll ever need to know about Clifford Still, his work, and his place in art history is covered in this essay. The color plates are also wonderful and, even as reproductions, offer a great chance to appreciate the paintings.

Clyfford Still
Clyfford Still is one of the giant figures of the art world and this book puts his paintings in a proper perspective. The book contains many color reproductions of his large non-objective canvases. Still himself wrote the book and gives us a very good insight into his life and thinking process. He discusses what went into his paintings and how his unique canvas numbering system worked absent dates and titles to identify his work. It is also a journey through his body of work. His paintings were skillfully balanced with positive and negative spaces and his unparalleled use of color is well documented. This book is a must for any art lover in general and for students of American art in particular. I liked this book not only for the well reproduced paintings in color but also because it let's us into the painter's mind to get a glimps of his true genius.

A rare treat for the both the eyes & the artistic intellect
Produced by the collaborative efforts of art experts Neal Benezra, Olga M. Viso, Michael Brenson, and Paul Schimmel, Juan Munoz is an astounding companion to the exhibition of Munoz's remarkable, three-dimensional art on exhibition at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden of the Smithsonian Institution. Black-and-white and color photographs abound in this lavish work, featuring extensive and informative essays that look deep into the heart and soul of the sculptures, figures, and prints. Juan Munoz is highly recommended as a rare treat for the both the eyes and the artistic intellect.

A lavish display of art
Juan Munoz is not only a catalog accompanying the first major survey of Munoz's work in this country, but the most comprehensive study of his work in print. Color illustrations of all the works in the exhibition accompany essays and an interview with the late artist; all of which reveal facets of his techniques and intentions. The lavish display of his art introduces readers to the range of his abilities.

A "must" for all Ed Paschke fans and American art students.
One of the most prominent, innovative and influential figures of Chicago's "imagist" movement (an offshoot of the Pop Art era) was Ed Paschke. His paintings spanning a twenty-five year period were hallmarked by themes of confrontation with social and cultural values, and explored personality based media-based images including those of famous celebrities such as Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, and a legion of anonymous strippers, pimps, and social outcasts of every category and classification. In this outstanding work enhanced with 63 color plates and 29 b/w photographs, Neal Benezra, Dennis Adrian, Carol Schreiber, and John Yau collaborate to showcase the work, thought and influence of Ed Paschke for a new generation of art students and aficionados.

intelligent, timely and beautiful
this book, published in conjunction with the show at the hirshhorn museum, digs well into the current controversy of beauty in art. it undertakes this risky proposition and manages to develop and produce an elegant catalogue of that which is beautiful in contemporary art.

a very interesting artist
I leave off a "star" only because viewing Kentridge's drawings can not substitute the experience of viewing his films. Indeed, looking the charcoal drawings I wonder at what stage of the sequence it is in. Is this the last step in the drawing? Looking at a drawing outside of its time base can also be a positive. I love searching the surface for smudge marks and erased hands and arms. His drawings end up being a record of movement (something that most single drawings fail to capture). For anyone who doesn't know, by the way, Kentridge animates his charcoal drawings using filmic stop motion techniques. The results are amazing. Anyone interested in drawing and painting, the birth of early film, and South African Politics: here is your artist.

Catalog of an Incredible Exhibition
William Kentridge is a white South African born in 1955. He is best known for animations, based on large charcoal paintings, which have as their subject the complexity of living a meaningful life in the warped society of South Africa.

Kentridge makes the films by working on the charcoal paintings, then clicking the film camera one frame at a time. He then walks back to the painting and works on it, before exposing another twenty-fifth of a second.

Kentridge is articulate and interesting and has established himself as a great artist in the tradition of Hogarth, Daumier and the German expressionists. His exhibition, which closed here in Los Angeles last week, was breathtaking. This book is the catalog of that exhibition.

Ed Ruscha reviewed by the only correct source
My friend is named Dan and he really likes this book. He first showed it to me outside during recess. We are both only 13 . If I had to chose over either this Ed Ruscha book or a Sega dream cast, playstation 2, alot of chocolate, a gun that looked real but wasn't, but felt real cause it was so heavy, I would choose the gun, probably because I couldn't get a gun now( I am not 21) and because none of my friends have ever seen a gun, it would be cool. But I still would like to flip through this book, but I don't know if I'd buy it, especially with my own money.

RUSCHA IS THE BOMB
YO, IF YOU THINK THAT RUSCHA IS THE BOMB DIGGY, LET ME TELL YOU THAT, YOU ARE CORRECT. THIS BOOK IS THE ILL SPOT ON THE HOT ART MAN. WHAT YOU WANT IS IN THIS BOOK. This book contains detailed critizism and history of Ruscha. In addition, the book pocesses all of Ruscha's most famous paintings. The book is an all around fine package.

an amusing family that will make you cringe
The first time i browsed through this book, i thought Richards family are totally mad. Some of the photos made me feel sick especially the one where Richards mum and dad have spilt gravy down thier tops. I've never seen anything like it in my life. The visions where shocking but i was very hooked by the images, even though they made me cringe. I was interested by all clutter of ornaments and art deco chaotically arranged around the house. Also the kind of food brands they have which are very cheap such as nettos no frills, i found it very interesting to see how a poorer class family lives. Some of the picturs are really disgusting, i mean what is Ray actually doing sitting by the toilet, this book is totally mad so if you have n't seen it yet then you relly should. This is a book not to be missed!
