Just Enough
With amazing amounts of architectural jargon out there to fill up your thoughts, this book is a quiet contrast that is likely to sit next to your bed for many nights after you are through. A small manifesto that says just enough, leaving room for interpretation, discourse and side notes to yourself. Thank you for the creativity and insights. Definately a "pass it on".

Excellent
I was required to read this book for a design class but I would recomend it to anyone who is interested in architecture or even life for that matter. This book makes you take a second look at things, not necessarily buildings, that you would normally just pass by. Great short read that is definitely not short on great ideas.

Antidote for the times
This is a delightful little book (nevertheless with large ideas) and a marvelous counter to the excesses of our times. It focuses on the direct physical experience of buildings, and is written in surprisingly clear, even poetic, English. It returns our attention to fundamentals that, in this gas-powered, electronic, digital age, we too easily forget.

The poetry of surrealism: an anthology

addendum to above review
Yes, this perhaps the best anthology of surrealist poetry ever compiled. However, Rimbaud is not in it, and is not a surrealist, in any case, altho embraced by Breton through the surrealist time machine. Apollinaire being the only "precursor" appearing here. But also includes Artaud, Arp, and Daumal, who are marginally Surrealists, altho certainly influenced. Arp, of course, along with Tzara here, being of original Dada gang. Benedikt intro. and commentaries are worth the price of admission, if you can find a copy! For some reason, this is an amazingly elusive tome. Good luck.

better than a bathtub of giraffes
And you thought surrealists only painted. Highballs can't compare to Verlaine burning on a streetcar at dusk in Paris; she is in the bath. The most complete anthology of surrealist poetry I've yet encountered. Rimbaud, Artaud, Reverdy, yum yum yum I eat it. Back order back order. Give me more!

Benedikt's Best Anthology
After reading a number of prose-poem anthologies, I must say this is the best. I agree--"undeservedly out of print." For anyone interested in the form it is a must.

A marvelous compendium, undeservedly out of print.
Benedikt's anthology covers both space and time in its overview of the Prose Poem. The earliest writing that might qualify as a prose poem (or that may have inspired early writers in the genre) is given, and examples abound from many countries, with top-notch translations. It is the only collection I know of, and it is wonderful.

Kahn and Decon
One of the best essays relating literary deconstruction and architecture, and one of the few i have seen that has such a curious premise- That Louis Kahn was employing many of the methodologies described by derrida and that it is up to us to now discover those methodologies 30 years later. the first 25 pages of the book are a crash course in architectural deconstruction, and those pages alone make the book a must for architecture students, practitioners, and theorists. Also read benedikt's "for an architecture of meaning"- the two books create a strong couple.

A must for those who love architecture!
This recent publication of Quigley's works quickly demonstrates his passion and commitment to achieving a balanced "fit" between progressive, modern architecture and the context that surrounds it. Featuring photographs, drawings, and insightful essays and comments from Quigley and others familiar with the San Diego setting. A must read for architecture students and practicioners interested in the importance of the context of any architectural work. NOT the typical trade monograph...this book is readable, educational, and down to earth. The editor/writer does a good job of focusing on the work, not individual criticisims. Learn about this important architect of our times!!
