Very informative
I had a general idea about how dental implants work, but this book really educated me. If you're thinking about implants, this book will really help you understand what to expect. Easy to read and understand.

The only book you'll need to read on the subject
I have heard so much about dental implants in the past few years, with more people asking for them, and more dentists offering them. I have a crown that really should be replaced, and I wanted to get an implant. This seemed like the best book to read on the subject, based on the title, so I got a copy. It's everything the title says. Easy to understand, a quick read and a thorough explanation ... in language that I can understand. Thinking about implants? Read this book!

Excellent Book
This is a must have book if you own a Porsche or dream of owning one. The quality of the photos are excellent and the text is adequate (not too much noise). The book traces the history of the first turbo to the current 996 version. There are some very interesting biograhies of some of the engineers who were/are directly responsible for the development of the machine. A very good book to read over and over again because there are just enough words there to be informative and not too much to put you to sleep.

Excellent book for Turbo lovers!
This book is a design history of the current 996 Twin-Turbo. It traces the evolution of the design from the 934 & 935 race cars, through the 930, 959, 964, and 993 turbos. The majority of the book deals with the design of the entire 996 Turbo and includes some of the original drawings of the car. Interviews with several of the designers of various systems of the 996 Turbo are included. Stunning photography complements the thorough text. An absolute must for anyone who has or loves the Porsche Turbos. Highly recommended.

Unfolding Destinies: The Ongoing Story of the Auca Mission

A very moving, thought provoking, and enlightening book!
I enjoyed Olive Fleming Liefeld's book, Unfolding Destinies, immensely! The author realistically illustrates that the Christian walk is a marvelous adventure involving listening intently to God's voice for direction while traveling in the physical world of human emotions, needs, and societal pressures. Mrs. Liefeld does a superb job of presenting the joys, struggles, heartbreaks, questions, and blessings from God that she and Pete shared during their brief time together, as well as what God has done in her life since then.

In addition, I was very moved by the forward in the book written by Mrs. Liefeld's husband, Dr. Walter Liefeld.

This is a marvelous love story: the love between husband and wife, the love of God's people for those that don't know Him, and the love of a great God for all His people!

I recommend this book very highly!

Balanced objective
This was a great book! It kind of "balanced out" the story--the perspective is different than that of Elisabeth Elliot's.

I fell in love with Peter!
"Peter pan" is one of the best book I love. As like Wendy, when I was a child I loved Peter from my heart. He is a real child, never never grow up and know dirty or gain unnecessary wisdom.. I seriously wanted to fly away to the Neverland. I think it is very difficult to become an adult with innocence. The child grow up to forget how to fly and don't believe fairly or romantic things. So I hope I would be a child forever. I don't want to be an adult. I think this book is not only adventure, but also sad love story about Peter and Wendy. Wendy fell in love with Peter but he hoped her to be a mother. I wanted them to become happy. Child wants love but when he gets it, he is no longer a child. It is heartless contradiction. The last part of this story is very sad, I think.

Bittersweet
The book 'Peter Pan' by J. M. Barrie is a truly beautiful work. It is never too cloyingly sweet or too harsh, and the child's perspective of the world is beautifully crafted. It does, however, bring you along on a journey to the Neverlands, and perhaps for a little while we can be reunited with our dreams.

Although Wendy seems a little prim, she is sweet and motherly. John was offhand and brave, Michael was tiny and believing. My favourite character was, however, Peter. The author really outdid himself on this one. Peter's innocent cockiness and love for dangerous adventures endeared him to me at once. He still has all his first teeth, and his first laugh - what more could we ask of him? His frightful happiness in danger reminds me of my seven-year-old self.

The book retains a magical quality right up to the last page. The midnight scene where Peter coaxes them out of the window has always stood out in my mind; there is a kind of magic in an ever-young boy, small and innocently cocky and always up to some mischief. The ending of the book is very sad, for only those who are gay and young and light-hearted can fly.

Definitely a book worth reading. Adults, trust me on this one: you might think you're too old to read this book, but once you do you'll find that a piece of Neverland still resides in your heart.

Best Audio Book in my ten year search
Driving with young children in the car quickly convinced me that it was unsafe to not give them something to listen to. After ten years I have collected a large (30+) bag of books-on-tape. I have also loaned them to others and asked for opinions. Peter Pan (read by Wendy Craig) is not only my favorite, but also the favorite of my wife and most of my friends. It is excellent for all ages (4 to 80) and even most hardened teenagers. Humour, presentation, ... a prefect 10.

The City Observed, Los Angeles: A Guide to Its Architecture and Landscapes
Published in Hardcover by Random House (June, 1984)
Authors: Charles Willard Moore, Peter Becker, and Regula Campbell
Amazon base price: $2.98
Average review score:

Entertaining, helpful guide to L.A. architecture.
I purchased this book before a recent trip to Los Angeles. We had a vehicle and were able, in a few days to get to many of the places described by Moore. The book is an excellent cross-section of many of the choice sites in Greater L.A. For this reason alone, the book is well worth purchasing if you are interested in architecture.

Moore is also a very entertaining writer. He is not afraid to express his opinions on anything and this makes his book both good reading and a helpful guide. If one has limited time, Moore's guide to the best places to visit is reliable.

The one "down side" to this book is that it is somewhat dated. It was published in 1984 and has not been revised. Accordingly, some of the places he describes have disappeared. Furthermore, his description of when certain buildings are open to the public is out-of-date.

In any event, if you are interested in architecture and wish to see some of what L.A. has to offer, this book is well worth getting.

Indispensible for the informed SoCal traveler
In 1994, I learned I would be living in Los Angeles for the following two years. A survey of guidebooks at the local library turned up this well-organized volume of Southern California's architectural points of interest by the late co-owner (with Frank Gehry) of the title of LA's finest architect.

The book was in my Mustang convertible for the next 24 months of exploring the "only-in-LA" landscape. The history of the Mayan Theater and other grand movie palaces, Los Angeles City Hall, unique residences in Hollywood and Beverly Hills, Frank Lloyd Wright's Pasadena homes, UCLA, and so many other sites came to life through Moore's succinct, academic but accessible summaries. Maps were excellent, and photos were provided for almost half of the hundreds of entries. The chapter exclusively on Disneyland as an architectural metaphor for SoCal was particularly intriguing.

I forgot to mention: in 1994 this book had been out of print for 8 years and unavailable in stores. I "lost" the library's copy and paid the fine for it, it was so good. Presumably the edition on Amazon is new and revised, and I'll be ordering it for my frequent returns to Charles Moore's modern architectural sandbox.

The Disneyland chapter is worth the price of the book.
This book is the first one to disagree with Postmodernists and seriously treat Disneyland as a humane rather than "simulated" space. Very much worth reading.

An interesting early history of the 2000 election.
This book, by the editors of the Washington Post, does a good job of describing the events which led to the deadlocked 2000 Presidential election. In addition to detailing the paths which led to the deadlock, the book discusses all the post-election issues in a very readable format. Surprisingly, the books editors seem only slightly tilted towards Gore (especially considering it is the Washington Post, which is noted for its liberal bias), so no matter who you voted for, there is much to be found here for anyone with an interest in contemporary politics.

More Detail Would Have Been Nice
Two things struck me while reading this book, the first is that I doubt there is a book out there that is truly balanced and not somewhat biased. The second thing was that Gore really got the shaft, not so much by the recount wars, but by the election official that came up with the Butterfly Ballot. In the history of the USA this decision ranks up there with new Coke and the XFL, what a mistake. As far as the reporting in the book it was not bad for a review of all the articles they had in the paper, but it did not really dig into the particular issues very deeply. I wanted more detail and behind the scenes with both the candidates. I also wanted more details on the court cases; I felt like the sky-high overview of the issues of the cases did not do such an important issue justice.

In reading the book I think a little bit of a democratic bias comes out, just a little, but enough to notice. I also thought it interesting that they had far more details of the Gore group then the Bush camp, it follows the perception that the Post is somewhat liberal in its views. The book is an overview that came out almost 10 minutes after Gore hung up the phone on the second concession call so there are a few more details out now that they did not get in the book. Overall it is a good effort and a readable book, but not the end all be all on the subject.

A Long and Very Good Newspaper Article
Deadlock: The Inside Story of America's Closest Election is a workmanlike and emotionless recollection of the events surrounding the most controversial election of the past 100 years. It is a well organized, easy to follow and not visibly biased view of the relevant events leading up to and following the November 7 Presidential election. Seemingly accurate and double checked to a fault, reading this book left me with the impression that I had just read an excellent 275 page newspaper article and not much more. With almost no humor, lacking any sidebar comments, it is a book Joe Friday would be proud to call his own. While I am a Texan and Bush supporter, I much preferred Jake Tapper's Down & Dirty: The Plot to Steal the Presidency. I guess this means that like most people, when push comes to shove, I'd rather be entertained than informed. I do regret this intellectual weakness and like some of the votes in Florida I may change. But probably not in the next 36 days.

Not So Fantastic
I found this book to be quite disappointing, especially at its premium price. The poor translation and countless typos make me wonder if they had anyone proof-read the final draft before they printed the English edition. The photos are good but the text and choice of subject matter are questionable.

Striving for perfection - like the cars themselves
A cut-above the normal coffee-table automobile book, distinguished not only by beautiful photography, but also by some inspired prose (marred only by occasional translation errors and typos). Those familiar with the elaborate style of, for instance, Claus-Peter Becker in auto, motor und sport will recognize his writing even through the English translation. For those of us who grew up dreaming of Le Mans, and of the curious long-tailed cars which duelled through the night, the chapter on the 917 brings the brute force of it's 12-cylinder engine to life in your hands. Less impressive at first glance, but perhaps equally important to the success of Porsche as a marque is the story of the people behind the cars - engineers and drivers alike. I look forward to a revised edition of the book with a little less emphasis on the rich people who drive Porsches, the splendour of the German text recreated and one or two of the omissions (Speedster, 924 Carrera, 944/968; and drivers such as Derek Bell and Jacky Ickx) included.

fantastic book
as the name implies, this book is fantastic. it traces back the biography of Ferry Porsche close to 1889 and the history of Porsche as well. be aware that this book is a great centerpiece for people to thumb through, but only the true Porshe enthusiast will love it!
