Ms. Helen Bunkin did an excellent job on her book. She portrayed all aspects of men with beards. I liked how she used a variety of men and a variety of beards. You can definitely tell that she has put years of effort in selecting just the right kind of men with the right kind of beards. Great job!!!

It's nice to find a little book that is simply pleasant to read...a little book that makes you smile and giggle...a little book that does not attempt to be literary or snooty or philosophical or didactic or dogmatic. This is a small, harmless joy. We need more books like this! Take a break from the horrors of the World and sink yourself into a little book like this once in a while. I just adore this book. It is so wonderfully obsessive, a sort of subtle comedy leaks out and consumes you. Beard was obviously part genius and part madman -- how else could you explain such tremendously narrow focus? -- and that is where a lot of his charm lies. He is a fantasic character, and this serves as an interesting study of one of the most important gastronomical figures in history. For any fan of Beard, this essential work gives more weight and background to his already substantial body of work.

I am currently researching the topic of women in ministry, particularly in traditional/evangelical denominations. I read this book in the '80s and found it a bit radical. Not anymore! Perhaps the times changed, or perhaps I changed. Nonetheless, I am sorry this wonderful book is out of print and will take good care of my rather tattered copy. It is readable, insighful, honest and forthright. If you are a conservative clergywoman, or perhaps one "in the making" who is looking for encouragment, look for a copy! It is well worth a read.

If you all ready Have Beard on Barbeque or Cook It Out Dors ther is very little new here.I collect all James Beard books I can find and this one is well writen, with several great recipes but since he wrote so much about out door cooking very little here is not in other books.
