It made me carsick and my husband complained...
I started reading "Pennies" on a plane trip to Bermuda. I couldn't put it down.I tried to continue to read it during the extremely curvy taxi ride to our hotel. I picked it up again, after aspirins and a nap, and my husband complained that we were there for our 25th anniversary and not for a reading marathon!

When we got back, I lent it to my mother. She complained to me, too. She couldn't put it down, either. She read it in one day, didn't get anything else done, and didn't go to sleep until she finished it. She was tired and cranky the next morning.

We both thought it was fabulous and well worth the pain.
Thanks to Mindy and Callie and friends for a wonderful book!
(We can't wait to read about the rest of Callie's adventures).

Excellent!
This book is a page turner as well as unpredictable. The characters are well developed. Can't wait to read the next one!

Puzzling and fascinating
With this debut novel, Mindy Starns Clark creates a memorable and unique sleuth: Callie Webber, agent of a philanthropic organization (remember "The Millionaire"?). Callie's mission is to investigate non-profit organizations to assure they are legitimate and deserving of the rich guy's grants, which can be darned generous. In this installment, however, she's just supposed to drop off a check and leave--until the recipient drops dead practically before her eyes. Even jaded mystery readers will be wondering which of the many suspects is the killer--and more importantly, why. A fast-moving, puzzling, fascinating read. Word is, there are more Callie Webber books on the way, and that is good news for anyone interested in a good mystery.

Don't Take Any Wooden Nickels

Fantastic Read!
It's not often the 2nd book in a series is as good as the first, but I have to say that I absoulutely loved this one better than the first, and the first book was great too!
Not only does Mindy Clark do a great job with her character profiles/backgroud but it makes you feel like you know them and are with them while the story unfolds. I found myself at times talking to them ( the characters).
In this book, Callie not only works on another murder mystery, but she also is going through some personal feelings and changes.
Her boss, Tom, is and enigma to me and there are a few nuggets of info on him that keep you guessing just what is up with him. I am so hoping in the next book that Mindy will give us some more details on him.
Mindy's books both the first in this series ( A Penny For Your Thoughts) and Don't Take any Wooden Nickels are really, really hard to put down.
Enjoy them. I know I sure did.

Excellent Read!
It is rare that an author writes a 2nd book in a series that is just as good or better than the first. I found this book to be page turning and enjoyable. And the ending was a real surprise too!

An old California rocker who is still rollin¿ along!
After all these years and after all the things I have read about the Beatles, for the first time I finally feel like I know them. What a refreshing view of these wonderful people. To cap it all off-as a baby boomer who grew up with the Beatles it is incredible to have such a beautiful pictorial about what is important in my life at this stage. Ken Mansfield describes his spiritual journey in such a non preachy way that I feel I have been given some direction in mine. I totally recommend this as a unique rock and roll historical journal with great new unseen pics of the Fab Four and as a personal level must read. I was totally surprised because I have never read a book so unique and unlike anything I have ever seen before.

An immensely satisfying experience.
This is an astonishing book by one time Beatles friend and US manager of their label Apple.

Unlike the sleazy tabloid portrayals of The Beatles in many books, Mansfield explores The Beatles as no other has done. He exposes not their excesses, but their endearing humanness. You see John, Paul, George and Ringo often simply as ordinary everyday people in the most casual of circumstances.

Mansfield journey is a strange one. Trusted to run The Beatles Empire firstly as a major US label rep, then as Apple manager Stateside, he seems unaffected by his famous bosses and often unaware of the fame that surrounds him.

Of course for any Beatles/rock fan (like me!) his stories are a delight. Yet his stories are often low- key, even ordinary and that is one of the great strengths of this book. His friendship with and respect for The Beatles means, for once, they are treated with dignity. Unlike many books, you don't feel like the author has betrayed his subjects.

The style of this book is like no other rock book I've read, as Mansfield oscillates between Beatles stories, Bible reflections and coastal metaphors. It is though an immensely satisfying experience.

Unique & Unusual
At first, I found it a bit off-putting to read one chapter relating to Ken Mansfield's experiences working with The Beatles, & the very next chapter detailing his personal spiritual journey, but his poetic prose & very humanistic approach to both topics soon lulled me into a creative rhythm not unlike the way the Fab Four completely changed popular music when they appeared on the scene in the U.S.

Mansfield's writing is delicious, from the very first page when he says: 'You are invited to absorb these offerings as you would a suntan. Afterwards, you will probably look good in a white shirt or pale blue earrings.'

The photographs of Bodega Bay are absolutely lovely &, along with Mansfield's joyful hymns to his faith, make this book as much a keepsake as the formerly unpublished photos of Paul, John, George & Ringo.

A Good Resource for Sacred Guitar Music
As stated in the preface, "all transcriptions were derived from the best-known versions of the hymns." This collection of hymns and songs of praise are carefully noted with fingerings and are easy enough for late beginning - to early intermediate guitarists, since since much of the musical notation is in the first position. Both traditional and contemporary pieces are included in this good selection of familiar sacred music.

Dead Man In Catfish Bay was about a murder mystery. It had to do about a KKK member that died. When a Vietnamese man moved to the cove they thought he did it. The KKK stirred up a lot of commotion trying to blame the Vietnamese refugees. Cam Powell a teenager with a police record for car theft gets into a murder situation that puts his own life in danger. He spends the whole summer with his uncle at catfish cove. When his summer is over they find out the real mystery behind the story. I recommend you check out this book to learn more. It was really good but sometimes in the story they would go into a lot of detail.
