The Background For SDI
This book is written by the official historian for the SDI program. And the author does what he is paid for. When I say that, remember that Baucom is a very skilled historian.

If You are looking for a book that describes the origins for R.Reagens SDI program, this is the one.

But, beware, the book does not dig deep into the motivation for launching the SDI program. However, It will give You a broad picture of the different antiballistic programs.

It gives a concise technological walkthrough of the major Missile defense-programs from WWII.

Baucom does not analyse the causes for missile defense to a greater extent.

Conclusion:
This is the place Your search for enlightment about SDI should begin. However, It is necessary to read other books, with different perspectives.
