The standard work on guerrilla warfare for the last century.
The incredible career of Tom Barry and that of the West Cork Flying Column is an inspirational example of what virtually untrained volunteers fighting for their families and their country can achieve, even in the face of overwhelming odds. The British had over 12,500 men in West Cork chasing after about 310 IRA Volunteers...and never defeated them. Barry discusses many military topics and personal thoughts which the student of Irish warrior traditions will find extremely helpful. Members of many guerrilla movements around the world have read and profited from the lessons in this book including Che Guevera (whose last name was "Lynch" thanks to his Irish grandfather) and the early Jewish guerrillas in the Irgun and Lehi. Anyone interested in understanding the mindset of Irishmen bent on taking a stance and fighting for what they believe in, will be well rewarded for reading this book.

A must read for Irish historians
This on the scene writer grimly reveals the unbelieavable atrocities the English purpetrated on the Irish people in this century. This book is a beginning to the understanding of the relations between the English and the Irish. The actions taken by armed mercenaries, English military, and English puppet police against the Irish people in their own country is appalling and brings to mind Hitler's treatment of the Jews in Europe twenty years later. A must read for all who seek an understanding to the Anglo/Irish situation.

Great Resource
This is a great book. Especially for those (like me) who needed to understand foreign policy 101. So many issues that I've heard discussed in the media and in congress i.e. Exim (Export/Import) Bank, I would have been clueless about, wondering who are they and what the heck do they do????, except for this book. I first discovered it on a library shelf, but decided I needed my own copy. I refer back to it often to refresh my memory on details when I need to. And there is an excellent source of other resources in the back of the book to expand your knowledge in many areas. Anyone who is not aware of how our policies affect the world needs this book. And unfortunately that means most American citizens need to read it.

One of the only books you'll find with in depth info
If you're looking to travel to Belize for lesisure or study, this book is a required read. With much more information than you can find in ANY travel guide, this book was used for a college class I took in 1997-98. This book includes information on politics & government, the economy, society & ethnicity, social forces, environment and foreign influences! Thats quite a bit of info for such a tiny country, and Barry tells it well. In my opinion, this book is the best reference available on Belize. Even if you're just a casual traveler to this country, you can benefit from knowing so much about it. If you've ever travelled somewhere and wondered about that places' political or historical background, a book like this will answer all of those questions and probably more. And as for the country of Belize, it's truly a gem!

Lopez explores the companionship of human and animal souls
Of all the people I know of living on this earth, Barry Holstun Lopez is the one with whom I would most like to have a conversation. Knowledge, ethics, and artistry combine to make his one of the richest voices in contemporary literature. His writings reveal the fierce innocence of nature and animals which, at our best, we may share. Tom Pohrt's immersive images set the shadowy tale of the wolverine in a place that feels familiar as a dream.

This Book Should Come With The Program
I was a novice to Photoshop Elements. It looked like a good program, but I really didn't know where to start. I wanted to fix some photos I had scanned into the computer. The manual that came with Elements had a quick start guide to fixing photos. I guess I'm a dummy, but I couldn't figure out the basics of selecting stuff, and what to do if I ever got the part of the photo isolated, that I wanted to repair. Enter Zero to Hero. Tom Arah showed me how to use the selection tools, what layers were for, and how to manipulate the selected areas for best effect. I was able to take old fuzzy photos, with dim lighting, that the automatic correction features of Elements didn't handle well, and make usable images from them. I learned to correct color casts, dim lighting, poorly exposed photos, etc. I am still not a pro, but my family was amazed at what I could do with those photos. I am especially fascinated by the ability to add fill flash to foreground objects and people. All these capabilities were there just waiting for me, but for the life of me, I couldn't figure how to do it, from the manual. Mr. Arah's book has made it possible for even a dummy like me, to use Photoshop Elements with a modicum of expertise. Thanks for the clear and well-illustrated guide, Mr. Arah!

a dizzying, impressive, enthralling, professional necessity!
Mymymy...this book is truly a masterpiece. The quality of the images is superlative and the text is thoroughly enjoyable, providing fascinating insight into the lives of these remarkable artists. Even if you are not an art fanatic, the content of this book is a wonderful visual diversion, especially the works of the fabulous Mark Dagley, whose spectacular work is the cover of this collection. This is not just one of those books you buy and look at once, only to discover to your dismay that the text is too technical and that the pictures are few, small, and poorly chosen. Rather, every page is vibrant and intriguing, which, coupled with engaging text, places Post-Hypnotic at the top of my list. Highly recommended!

Photos tell story of Everglades that words can never express
For some reason, man continues to believe that he can change nature to suit his purposes, for his own comfort. Acting on this belief, beginning in the 1920's and continuing to this day, the Army Corp of Engineers enbarked on a massive plan that would change waterways reaching from the Artic circle to as far south as the Equator. They built dams, they drained swamps, they built bridges, they altered the course of rivers but they never understood that you could not change nature without irrepairably damaging the environment. And if they did begin to understand it, the plan had just become bigger than them, it took on a life of it's own and nothing can stop it now. Not even the disappearance of animals, plants, drinking water, restoration wetlands and marine life.

Clyde Butcher understood this. He began photographing the everglades at a time when he a thing he most treasured was lost. In a sense, he was photographing life, the everglades, in as near a pristine state as possible, in honor of his son's life, knowing that both would eventually disappear and be gone forever.

Mr. Butcher's photos of the Everglades take your breath away. In black and white, he manages to capture the vastness of the grass seas, the lushness of the swamps. His photos brings you so close to the swamp that you have to check to see if your feet are wet. You swear you hear the tiny ripple of water that comes when the alligator glides silently into the swamp. The primordial tangle of leaves, trees, vines, water are there before your eyes.

Clyde Butcher was careful to take his pictures so that no evidence of man ever invades his frames and he suceeded overwhelmingly.

Buy this book because as the Army Corp of Engineers machine rolls on, this will be the final work of art on the Everglades in as pristine state as possible.

I love Carol Orsborn's interview
I am a big fan of Carol Orsborn's books (including "Inner Excellence at Work: The Path to Meaning, Spirit and Success.") It's great to read her in an informal interview with the folks at New Dimensions. They really capture the flavor of her wisdom and advice. All the authors who are featured make an important contribution to the field of spirituality and business. Read this book!

Mark Waid at his best
One reason old DC fans love Mark Waid so much is because of his real attention and devoted care for the company's old Silver Age icons, like the Hal Jordan Green lantern and the Barry Allen Flash. Both characters were killed off by the company years ago in favor of hipper new versions, but Waid shows what a mistake this was by showing enormous depths behind this old pair of Justice Leaguers. The cocky, skirtchasing Hal Jordan and the staid, reliable Barry Allen always seemed like the most unlikeliest of pairings, but Waid gives a plausible account for how two such dissimilar men could actually become the best of friends. The best story, by far, is the last, which analyzes the differences between Barry's utter devotion to his dead wife Iris and Hal's neurotic ongoing longtime relationship with his troubled boss Carol Ferris; it builds beautifully off of years of characterization and plotting by former FLASH and GREEN LANTERN scripters (in particular Cary bates and Steve Engelhart), and offers the return of one of most greatly missed Silver Age DC villains, Star Sapphire.

Worth every penny and more!
This book is a collection of six stories involving the Barry Allen Flash and the Hal Jordan Green Lantern, telling of the great friendship that existed between these two super-heroes.

The first story is Those Who Worship Evil's Might, in which our heroes battle an alien who wishes to steal mankind's evil, destroying us in the effort. In the second story, Lightspeed, Flash and Green Lantern team up with Kid Flash (Wally West) to defeat the machinations of the Mirror Master and Black Hand. The third story, A World of Hurt, is quite unique, when our Flash and Green Lantern go on a camping trip with the Jay Garrick Flash and Alan Scott Green Lantern (!), and find themselves in an adventure (I guarantee you'll never guess who's behind it all). The fourth story, How Many Times Can a Man Turn His Head, teams up our heroes with Green Arrow to stop Central City's new mayor from imposing a police state. The Man Without Fearlessness is the fifth story, and it pits Flash and Green Lantern against a powerful force that has already destroyed nine other Green Lanterns. The final story, Running on Empty, pits a bereaved, widower Flash and Green Lantern against an old enemy...a very old enemy indeed!

I have been introducing my son to my old passion of comic books, and he and I both love this book. The book is made to a high quality, so you don't sweat the price; it's worth every penny and more! A World of Hurt was great, and all of the other stories were very good, except for the fourth story. The story with Green Arrow was very weak, seeming to be more of a political polemic than a good adventure. That said, though, this is a great book, and my son and I highly recommend it to you!

Only problem with it is it has to end...
Yeah i love this book and Flash is my favorite hero of the DC heroes (better then supes even). This book tells the story of two very different heroes Hal "Green lantern" Jordan and Barry "The Flash" Allen and how even though they don;t seem to have anything in common other then being heroes are the best friends in the DC Universe. This reprints all six issues of the Brave and the bold mini series that made new "old stories", Since both are dead now this is the only new stories we will see. If you are a fan of either or just love a good story then get this book because it is one of the best only i wish it was longer then six issues in fact i could read an ongoing series like it!

(Also this has guests like Green Arrow, Kid Flash, The Original GL and Flash and others.)

a story of two buddies.
