Ahoy, There, Me Miceys!
Jill Barklem's Brambly Hedge Mice are on a sea adventure this time. Traditonal British rural customs are depicted with inviting illustrations and you can enjoy a mouse eye's view of Dusty's charming boat, The Periwinkle, as they sail off in search of salt. When they meet up with their cousins, the Sea Mice, who moved from the Green Fields to the Dunes long ago, they enjoy a lively cultural exchange that you are sure to enjoy along with them. Treat yourself to a game of dominoes and a candied violet or two and immerse yourself in this enchanting little world. This book reminds me of both Beatrix Potter and "The Wind in the Willows" but I like the illustrations even more than Potter's. There are such lovely and clever details rendered in soft pastels. Sail away with this fun book but don't miss out on the others by Ms. Barklem!

Sea Story is a FUN Book!
I love books written and illustrated by Jill Barklem. The mice in her stories are so sweet, and she gives them cute names. In this story, the youngest mouse is called "Baby Shrimp!" The mice build a boat and go sailing in search of salt. They have lots of fun adventures and get to visit with their faraway relatives, who collect salt from the ocean near their home. This is a nice story, with lots of beautiful pictures of life in Brambly Hedge...

SEA STORY
This is a gentle story with wonderful use of the English language and lots of opportunites for discussion with children. Vocabulary words, tides, levers, methods of travel, salt and its necessity and harvesting, manners, feelings, family and friends. The illustrations are cozy and delightful and detailed enough to spend time looking for things with a child so inclined.

Very Sweet Story and Pictures
I really enjoy Jill Barklem's work, especially this book. Thesummer story is one of the Brambley Hedge season books, and tells thestory of the summer courtship and marriage of two of the mice of Brambley Hill. It's hot outside in Brambley Hedge and the mice want to do nothing but sit and dip their tails in the stream, until suddenly, the hedge is buzzing trying to prepare for the upcoming wedding. The pictures are lovely, as usual, andthe sory simple and sweet. A great book for children and adults.

Adorable Picture Book
I was given a copy of this book as a 2-year old, and I am so excited that it has finally come back into print. This book is very endearing. It tells the story of a young mouse, Wilfred, who is celebrating his birthday. The other mice of Brambley Hedge work together to plan a special surprise for Wilfred, and have almost as good a time planning it as Wilfred does discovering it. It is a good book for bedtime reading, or just any time. Everyone will enjoy this happy tale and it's adorable characters.

Will Primrose Woodmouse find her way out of Chestnut Wood?
First published in 1980, Autumn Story follows Lord Woodmouse's daughter through her adventures exploring the delights of autumn harvest in the woods, until she realizes she is lost. As always, remarkable illustrations of blackberry brambles and fauna seen only by tiny folk bring both authenticity and charm.

Must Have for Brambly Hedge Lovers!
If you love Brambly Hedge books or even if you are just discovering the series, this book is absolutely not to be missed.

Inside are many of Jill Barklem's Brambly Hedge family homes and other buildings from the stories in cut-away illustrations and useful bits of information. Children and adults will delight in the wonderful illustrations depicting in detail the world of these much loves characters.

When I was a little girl, I would spend hours imagining myself inside the buildings, ort else pretending that they were three dimnentional so that I could play doll house with them. I'm hardly a little girl any more, but I still love the book. I brought it with me to college! It has only temporarily left my posession because I have loaned it to my aunt who intends to use it as a model to inspire her own homemade Brambly Hedge doll houses. This book is SO wonderful. As a long time fan of the series and a very selective collector of childrens literature, I highly recomend it.

Classics
These were my favourite stories when I was little. I found them when I was looking for another book in a cardboard box. I still have fond memories of these stories and reading them all those years later brought back quite a lot of memories. Reading them now made me realise what utter classics of children's literature these books are. The colourful, detailed pictures. The fun stories. The extra something which makes a story downright enjoyable.

If you have a kid these should be the books to buy for them.

A heartfelt recommedation from a (former) kid.

Loved it so much, I found all the rest, did a room w/BH mice
Made displays to match the illustrations, now doing a closet mural with the picnic and poppies babies. Now collecting all information and dishes, figurines to go with it. I made a 33" high fake tree to match the house. Even have little mice inside. Have entire guest room to display them.

excellent books
All of the Brambly Hedge books are wonderful. The stories are gentle and imaginative, and the illustrations are detailed and creative. I'd give all of them 5 stars except for one thing: the size of the books. On one hand their smaller size gives them a certain charm, but the first Brambly Hedge book I saw was one I took from the library in a "standard" picture book size, and you could just get lost in the illustrations. The smaller size of these books detracts from the loveliness of the pictures -- it's much more difficult to pick out the wonderful details, and the color is also a little less vibrant than the version I had seen, again making it hard to pick things out. What a disappointment, because the illustrations are half the charm of the books. If they had only made these books larger, they'd be perfect in every way.

Beautiful
When I was a kid, I loved these books, I was delighted to find these here, as I still have my original copies from childhood. For those who love the artwork, target has the whole line!!

poppy's babies
My daughter and her children and I all love the Brambly Hedge series. The stories and illustrations are fabulous. Anyone interested in porcelain will also love collecting the Brambly Hedge teaset and wall plates by Royal Doulton. Fabric is also available for quilts, tablecloths, etc. Brambly Hedge is a wonderful place to visit.
