Very Fun Reading...
This was a great book to read. It allows you to think about math in a totally diffrent way. The illustrations were great. A must have in any classroom.

MARVELOUS IT IS
Wow. Poetry about math. And it's fun! Every classroom should have a copy of this book. It's a teacher's treasure!

A must for all intermediate elementary and math teachers!
"Marvelous Math" is a wonderful way to connect mathematics to communication arts. This book of math poetry shows children how math is readily used in one's daily life. The colorful illustrations help keep the children intersted. It has given my students the enthusiasm for trying to write some poems about math also. This is great for home and also as a teaching tool.

This book brought me to tears
I am originaly from Greece and I loved this book. There is no better way to demonstrate the love of family and heritage than from the eyes of a child. The olive tree is one of the most powerful symbols of the Greek culture. Under the warm mediteranean sun, its products have provided the foundation of the Greek diet for thousands of years. It has a very special place in the heart of every Greek. If you are Greek you may cry when reading this book. If you are not Greek you will definitely be touched. Besides the beautiful story the illustrations are beautiful, extremely well done. If you want to give a present to a Greek, of any age, I can thing of nothing better than this book. By the way, I planted my olive tree when I was six years old and I plan to show it to my child as soon as he is old enough to understand.

Beautiful symbolism
I Have an Olive Tree is a simplistic yet poignant childrens' book about the symbolism of family and love. I use it in my fourth grade class to discuss culture and families. The illustrations are also powerful and upbeat. I am buying several to give as gifts!

My kids' favorite book!
After a hundred readings, this is still our children's favorite book

Excellent!
My kids adore this book. It's a very quick read--you can zip right through the short, meaty text. Yet the message is profound. Nino the pizza-maker closes down his cheerful little pizzeria and builds a big, fancy restaurant. He makes lots of money, but sacrifices precious time with his family, comes home exhausted and no longer enjoys his work. Saddest of all, he neglects his little son Tony, formerly known as his "best helper." Fortunately, Nino quickly realizes his mistake. He leaves the big restaurant behind and reopens his beloved pizzeria...renaming it after his son. It's amazing how the author manages to tell this whole story in so few words, and the vibrant, colorful artwork perfectly captures the characters' emotions. This book is a winner!

The most beautiful children's book I know. A must for girls
It's funny to see the subject given for this book as Flight-Fiction because that is so incidental to what this beautiful book is about. When I saw this book I knew I had to get a copy for my daughter and I would love to buy one for every young girl and newborn baby girl I know. That may sound sexist, but the reason I love this book so much is that it's message is of liberation, imagination, endless possibilities and beauty in the everyday. The pictures are stunning, the language and style is music (watch for the pause icons as well as the punctuation - it reads much better if you count a beat whenever the little symbol appears.) In a world of Barbies and Sailor Moons, this book offers a much more compelling image of what a young girl can aspire to -- anything. Oh, one other thing - this is the only kid's book I know that uses words I didn't know and named animals and plants I had never heard of. Something I look for in a book - that it holds my attention and teaches me something as well. Also one of the few children's books that I read to my wife when we are alone.

This is a beautiful book!
I love this story. The reviewer here doesn't get it. I'm looking for another copy because we have read ours so many times that we've almost worn it out. One page-- "OH YES YOU WILL" -- sums up so much of childhood. Read it and share it with your kids.

A joy to hear, a joy to read.
"If naps and laps you do confuse, You are surely bound to lose."

Taking Aesop's familiar gems and re-setting them into witty verse, Yolen polishes the old stories and makes them sparkle. The poetry, while seemingly simple, can lead kids through a bit of puzzling before they can explicate each line, even when they know the original fable. A great book for teachers.
