18 helarious shows of the show that would become I Love Lucy
18 absolutely helarious programs from Lucille Ball's wonderful "My Favorite Husband" with Richard Dening. The shows are full length 30 minute shows on 9 90 minute tapes. Published by Radio Spirits Inc, one of the largest Old Time Radio programs. This series stars Liz and George Cooper "two people who live together, and like it" This shows would eventually turn into "I Love Lucy" which now airs on Nick At NIte, you will notice that some of the I Love Lucy shows were taken from previous My Vavorite Husband shows.

Hilarious!
Lucille Balls plays the same zany housewife as in "I Love Lucy" but in different situations. These tapes are pure entertainment and a MUST for any true Lucy fan.

Laughs, Luck...and Lucy
Read the reviews written on 1/24/97 and 2/8/00. To that I'd add that the book divides into fourths: (1) The first 1/4 is Mr. Oppenheimer's autobiography (entertainingly written and interspersed with funny anecdotes). (2) The second 1/4 is his career as a comedy writer for radio (also humorous as well as an interesting perspective from an insider). (3) The third 1/4 is what I thought the book would be about from the title and sub-title--the "I Love Lucy" show (combining humor and historical writing style of the first 1/2 of the book). (4) The last 1/4 is the appendix, complete with the CD (each especially memorable for Lucille Ball fans). A purchase well worth the money; an easy, interesting, entertaining, and fun read. Enjoy.

the best book on the best television show
I've read many books about Lucille Ball, I Love Lucy, and other members of the cast. I have to say, they've all bored me except for this one, and I'm a diehard "I Love Lucy" fan. It starts off as an autobiography of Jess Openheimer, but ends up explaining in great detail the wonderful show he produced. You'll learn a lot about Lucille Ball, other cast members, and the making of the series. It's a great book for real I Love Lucy fans.

Great nostalgic journey to the golden age of radio and t.v.
I Love Lucy - Behind the Scenes is a fabulous look back at the career and antics of one of t.v. and radios funniest ladies. With all of the demoralizing venues on the "boob-tube" today, it is refreshng to recall a time-gone-by when good clean fun could still be funny. Jess and Gregg Oppenheimer have compiled a wonderful memory book of everyone's favorite comidianne. The reader - Larry Dobkin who as I understand it, was a guest actor on several I Love Lucy episodes, delivers this story with the warmth and humor it so deserves. I give this audiobook 5 stars!

PERSISTANCE OF MEMORY
Gordon Ball's fine little memoir of the distant past is a bitter sweet account of growing up to a world that was not what we told it was. I guess, self discovery of the world, is always narcissistic and solipsitic. I admire so much his persistance and devotion to those that influenced and guided him in that discovery. He continues to do a great service to the legacy of that era. We may discover that the 60's are not over. Not by a long shot.

The 1960's in the land of the free............
READ THIS BOOK!
Gordon Balls' intimate recollection of a fascinating time in American history allows a vicarious experience for those unwilling or unable (due to age) to participate. I know of no better writing from a personal perspective on the exploration, freedom, generational misunderstandings and sometimes, excesses, of the 1960's. Perhaps Ball will consider an autobiography of his early teenage years, 60s experiences, and later periods and indicating how those have shaped him. One may drop acid AND love baseball, right?

For Those Who Missed (or Miss) the 1960s
The best books about the 1960s were written by people who disliked much about the time: Joan Didion and Tom Wolfe. For those who want to know why one might miss the decade, what it was like to be young and arts-oriented and practice free love, I recommend Gordon Ball's book.

play and pray ball!
Recently,I was asked to suggest a suitable Barmitzvah present for a boy who is mad about Sports but not very turned on by religion. Luckily,I remembered this book which is ideal for him. Very cleverly and skillfully, the author,Rabbi and sports fan, uses different sports and famous players as pegs to hang up some underplayed(forgive the pun) spiritual messages. I was not interested in the sports side but enjoyed the religious interjections.
