Lots of info
If your looking for a book to help you learn about the amazing powers of Anti-Oxidants this is a great book loaded with plenty of info. Worth the price.

What More Could You Possibly Need To Know?
This book is a tell-all source for the person wanting to learn about antioxidants and/or free radical damage. The only thing this book does not tell you is the absolute best supplements on the market today that contain all of the antioxidants listed in this book. But I can tell you that . . ....

Yep - Balch is right on target, again!
I couldn't agree more with the focus of Balch's book on Anti-Oxidants! We can no longer expect our food to contain enough of those wonderful supplements necessary for our bodies to sustain/prolong life in these stressful/toxic times. YES we need to eat well - cut out that fast food - to keep our everyday focus on being healthy, but unfortunately that isn't enough. If this book isn't enough to convince you (which I believe it is) access a site, PapaNature, and research further their documentation on anti-oxidants. They offer the same combinations as Balch recommends to his readership.

I love this resource
it's an astonishingly helpful book. It has so many useful things in it that it's just amazing. I've helped myself deal with more than a few health issues with this book. Highly Reccommended!

Prescription for Nutritional Healing by Joseph S. Maresca
This work is a superior rendition on specific modalities which
relates vitamins and nutrients to specific disease processes.
The beauty of the work is that specific dosages are quoted in
daily milligrams or international units. Nutrients are ranked from essential to important to helpful. There is good coverage
of the various antioxidants i.e. the ACES-Vitamin A,
Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Selenium
The book provides detailed recommendations and helpful
considerations on virtually every disease process. The author
provides a list of Health and Medical Organizations throughout
the USA, as well as a list of important manufacturers and
distributors of vitamins, minerals and other supplements.
This book is a good supplement to your existing vitamin and
nutrient regimen. In addition, it's a good literature source
to provide background information so that you can interface
intelligently with your own physicians and local medical
providers. The book is valuable in handling common health
problems; such as, osteoporosis, allergies, infectious
diseases and the more elusive cancers. The work is a worthy
investment for any personal library.

Exceptional detailed information on all supplements.
I have been buying these updated books for as long as I can remember. I found this book to be the queen bee on detailed info on all nutritional supplements. I learned an incredible amount of information on how important nutrition is to your body. Missing certain supplements in your body can cause all sorts of undesirable diseases and problems. It describes in detail what diseases/problems occur (most likely) when you are lacking certain supplements. This book has been truly helpful in the building of my site (parentingnaturally.net) and has shed a lot of light on nutrition.A must have!

The Natural Physician's Healing Therapies
I am totally impressed with the amount of information in this book. I went right out and bought a copy for my medical doctor. Thank you.

EASY TO USE
Dr. Stengler's book is an easy to use, fact-filled book. I have used alternative medicine extensively for the past 7 years, yet I found so much new information in this book. It is comprehensive, all the topics are explained well and easy to understand and implement, so that even a "beginner" would benefit greatly from it.
This book deserves at least a 5 Star review.

A Flawed, but Valuable, Resource
As a Natural Therapist, I find the Balch's book very useful in many respects. If I want a quick rundown on a particular condition, I can look it up in the book and get its medical pathology, standard drug treatments, and how clinical nutrition and herbal therapy can help treat it.

Although the suggested supplements are broken down into various categories indicative of their importance in helping wtih a particular condition, a person could easily get overwhelmed with the sheer number of possible helps for a condition, not knowing for sure which ones they really need. I think there needs to be more emphasis on working with a knowledgeable health professional throughout the book so that people don't waste their time or money on supplements or herbs that will not help them. A session with a natural health professional would most likely help people to know the supplements they really need.

The "cookbook" approach to disease is another flaw in the book. The book does not emphasize root causes of diseases or how other conditions can feed into others. People may mistakenly get the idea that if they take the supplements listed for a condition, that they will be "cured." It does not often happen like that in the real world.

The dietary advice in the book is awful. For the Balch's, it seems that the dietary answer for virtually every disease is a low-fat, near vegetarian diet that is high in complex carbohydrates. If it were only that simple! As a practitioner, I can confidently tell you that some of the sickest people I've ever dealt with have been vegetarians and high carb/low fat diets often worsen people's health. For more accurate nutritional information, see the books LIFE WITHOUT BREAD or NOURISHING TRADITIONS.

The Balch's entries on saturated fats are abysmal and full of mistakes. For example, in the section on multiple sclerosis (MS), they tell readers to avoid saturated fats at all costs because of research (from one person!) that implicates saturates as aggrvating factors in the disease. But two recent studies of 200,000 women showed that saturated fats, animal fats, and dietary cholesterol were PROTECTIVE against MS (Am J Epidem, Dec. 2000 1;152(11):1056-64). They also preach the mistaken Lipid Hypothesis of heart disease on virtually every page. This theory has been thoroughly disproven by several noted researchers (see U. Ravmskov's book "The Cholesterol Myths").

If you can ignore the wrong dietary advice and use this book for its positive aspects, you will get much out of it, however.

A New Update of the "Bible" for Feeling Better
A new update of the "Bible" for feeling better. I have had a copy of the second edition for years and refer to it regularly on many subjects. What I really appreciate about this book is:

1. It is comprehensive and lists many different drug-free remedies for various disorders and health conditions including vitamins, minerals, herbs, food supplements, exercise and meditation.

2. It is realistic about the role of herbs in healing. Unlike other materials and books it does not advocate the exclusive usage of herbs for healing or view herbs as a "cure-all." It is also quite honest and very straightforward about the dangers of some herb usage (for example, the regular use of licorice root, which has been determined to cause a sudden and unexpected rise in the blood pressure of some individuals.)

3. The book lists diseases, illnesses and disorders in alphabetical order (along with recommended treatment) for quick reference. There are other chapters which specifically explore vitamins, minerals, herbs, the role of food supplements, nutrition and good water.

A copy of "Prescription for Nutritional Healing", now in its third edition, is highly recommended for every household.

This book saved my life!
I must thank the Balch's for their fine research and well written books. In 1995, I was facing the horrible prospect of going on full disability due to problems associated with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. By changing my diet and using several of the treatments in this book, along with chiropractic, massage therapy, and colonic hydrotherapy, I was cured and live a good healthy life today. I am free from the long list of drugs that I was told were keeping me from getting worse...not better! I still refer to this book often and even bought the updated edition.

You will not regret buying this book. I highly recommend it for anyone who is tired of feeling bad and who wants to take control of their own health and wellness. You can feel better!

A wonderful book for every house
I couldn't put this book down once I started it. It is really wonderful, and I have already started taking a few of the supplements the author suggests. I say "a few" because I found that the author could have done a much better job expressing/analyzing his ideas (that's why the four stars). For example, I am under 25, and there are a few things which left me in question as to whether I should start using them or not. If you are not sure of something, like me, you should see the book with your doctor and then proceed. If the author could expand a little bit more on his ideas, it would make the perfect book.

natural remedies that can save your life
This book is rather indept concerning just one of the remedies,
and I know that it would be a valuable asset to others as well
as myself.

Thank You.

We are all in agreement here!
This book does the job of explaining WHAT our bodies need and WHY these Ten are the most important. Balch has helped us by picking the Ten Natural Remedies that are the most important ones. That way we can keep our focus a little better. Taking too many supplements throughout the day can get a little overwhelming. There are also combinations aimed at covering these areas of need. A site where my family has had great satisfaction in both service and product choices/quality is PapaNature. I feel the same way about praising them as I do about praising the work of the Balches. They also have additional documentation that exactly parallels Balch's topics in this great book.

I loved this book before I run in trouble
I owe this book for four years and loved everything in this book before I run in a trouble. I have followed this book advise for bowel cleansing and injured my colon by using a prescription for cleansing enema, listed in this book. I think author never tried this recommendation on him self and never used it on his patients. Otherwise he would never suggest to other people use this enema recipe and even more on weekly basis. I done it only once and cannot recover already for three months and probably never will. I looked for information on the Web unfortunately after I done this procedure and every piece of information I found says about straining your colon with this procedure. I cannot believe such a prominent doctor would not know that. This make me think this book is dangerous for public.

Following this book advise I have injured myself
Following this book advise I have injured myself and try to recover already for 2.5 months. In chapter about "fasting and cleansing" authors of this book suggests do cleansing enema with lemon juice every week. I did only once with much less strong concentarion of lemon juice. I have strained my colon and muscles so bad, I am not sure I ever recover.

A Great "Supplement" to their first Prescription book!
After owning the wonderful Balch bible on nutritional healing, I knew I had to own this one. It is a perfect companion piece. The Balches are so knowledgeable in the field of nutriional supplements (which we all need) that this book is easy to access. Their factual documentation is corroborated at a great site for supplements, PapaNature, that my entire family has used with wonderful, positive results in terms of service and product quality. This site contains numerous links to information on the supplements that the Balches recommend for complete health. I recommend this book as a wonderful resource and PapaNature as a wonderful source.

empowering information
I fond the information in Balch's book empowering. I try to eat a
balanced diet, but I can tell my body isn't getting "enough"
. Her book, although poorly organized in places, gave me the
knowledge about which vitamins, minerals and supplements would be best
for me to add to my diet in order to give it "enough"....

good reference
Being a Chiropractor, I am always interested in new info on wellness and staying healthy. This book offers insight into the importance of diet and nutrition. This is stuff I have found very useful when trying to educate my own patients. The author's other book,Prescriptions for nutritional healing, is another excellent reference for people interested in becoming and staying well.

Great Reference Book
I have both this book and the other(Pres. for Nutritional Healing). I have found this book to be a great resource. I recommend it to all my friends and family whom I am trying to turn on to nutrition. It is a great "starter book" for people just into diet and nutrition and want to be educated about the things they put into their bodies. It is very informative and an easy read. It is a must for everybody out there wanting to learn about food, their bodies, and how they interact. A wonderful book.
