Andy isn't afraid of anything!
Andy traded me his book for my novel, "Forever Retro Blues" at the New England Book Festival last September. Over and over, Andy is asked, "aren't you afraid?" in reference to the people Andy is telling on. But he isn't afraid to tell the truth. And he's been there--on the inside where deals are done and our lives are changed--many times for the benefit of the deal maker and not the population at large. Andy would have fit in well with our founding fathers campaigning for justice.
Very much worth reading
I heartily recommend Thibault's book. It is hard-hitting, clearly written, and commonsensical and cogent in its conclusions. Thibault is truly his own man. His views conform to no particular orthodoxy, and they shine forth in the book with an intensity borne of the deep conviction with which the author believes them. In addition, Thibault is a marvelous sleuth and detective with a keen instinct for running down a story and ascertaining the truth about it.

Gorgeous looking, and great recipes too!
Lee Bailey writes gorgeous books, that's the first thing you notice, but once you've tried his recipes, and I have five of his books, you find that all you have to do is open the book, follow his straightforward directions and you have a terrific meal. I rarely even add salt, his recipes are that good. Always my go-to guy for important dinner parties, he outdoes himself in this book adding wine and California style. In this book, he visits top California vineyards to cook with their chefs and their wines. This book is organized with complete menus which is great and saves organizing time, but you'll find yourself picking and choosing anyway since the choices are so good. Get this book and have a party!
Combination of creativity and beautiful photographs.
The receipes expresses creativity and imagination for the busies working women in today's society. His combination of simplicity and freshest ingredients is attractive. Also, Lee's pairing of food and wine leaves the guess work out of receipes. I've thoroughly enjoyed my cookbook over the past few years and looking forward to purchasing others in the future. Thank you

The Way YOU Will Cook
Lee Bailey is great. I have all his books, 'Weekends,' 'Desserts,' 'Cooking For Friends,' etc. and I use them almost exclusively. This book is quite comprehensive and includes a few recipes from his other books. From the highly original 'Scrambled Egg Salad' to the simple 'Tomato Aspic' to the marvelous 'Veal chops with Blackberries' to the divine 'Natchez lemon Cake' you won't regret buying this cookbook. The recipes are laid out in a simple, straight forward style. Lots of cookbooks promise fabulous dishes. This one actually delivers it.
A Book to Really Cook From
Lee Bailey's cookbooks are usually such wonderful visual treats that you hardly notice that the recipes are simple and straightforward and very interesting. And you would hesitate to bring them into the kitchen for fear of ruining the gorgeous pictures. This book has NO PICTURES, just lots and lots of recipes for great food. I'm not sure it has all the recipes from his previous books but it sure has most of them. I checked a number of favorites at random and they were all there. He says "I'm still a sucker for quick and easy and quirky ..." and his taste is sure. Take the other books out of the library or leave them on the coffee table - but buy this one to cook with.

A Great Survey of Religions of the World
In "An Anthology of Living Religions," Fisher and Bailey provide the reader with a great survey of the religions of the world. Each of the traditional religions, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Islam, and Sikhism are explained in great detail through contemporary writers who are experts in the religion they are writing about. Other religions, such as New Religious Movements and The Interfaith Movement, are also dealt with generally. This is a great text if you are looking for a survey of religions. It also satisfies the needs of those who wish to have a reference guide which outlines the basics of world religions readily available for easy reference. After explaining the basics of each religion, and including writings of those familiar with the religion, Fisher and Bailey include a reference to pertinent terms, holy days, a historical outline, and a section listing further readings. There is also a chapter which specifically deals with The Religious Response, defining the philosophy of religion and the need to have religion in our world today. I highly recommend this book.

Lee Bailey's Tomatoes
Published in Hardcover by Random House Value Publishing (November, 1997)
Amazon base price: $3.99
Average review score:
Small but tasty
This is a short, compact cookbook specializing in tomato recipes. It is beautfifully illustrated with some of the finest food photography I've ever seen. The recipes are uniformly straight-forward, requiring only basic ingredients and fairly standard equipment. The modestly competent home cook will have no difficulty with most of the recipes here. If you've ever stared at your tomato patch wondering what the heck to do with all those tomatoes, this is the book for you. I've made almost every recipe herein and loved almost every one. But the tomato spoonbread is my favorite. Its almost worth the price of the book just for that recipe.

The Classic Plant Identification Book
Lyberty Hyde Bailey, one of the first of Cornell University's long line of distinquished botanists has written some of the most important plant identification books in the library. All of his books are treasures to serious botanists and all are hard to find. Many of Bailey's books were used as textbooks but many were never resold; they are that valuble to botanists worldwide. This book is no exception. A valuable reference, it is used as a key to identify genus and species of many cultivated plants by providing such details as petal number, sepal number and location, fruiting habit, stamens and pistil appearance and placement and many more details necessary to plant identification. Bailey even includes the name of the scientists who gave the plant its first binomial nomenclature (the genus and species). Get this one if you can.

A Kitchen Staple
I have tons of cookbooks but this is one of about 5 that never leave the kitchen. The recipes are easy to follow and always turn out well. It is definitely not for the calorie conscious (9 egg yolks for a quart of ice cream!) but everything is delicious! The writing style is simple and homey and the pictures make you want to cook everything immediately.
MR. BAILEY IS A CLASSIC!!
THIS IS A MUST HAVE IF YOU ARE A COLLECTOR OF COOKBOOKS, AND/OR ENJOY BAKING. MR. BAILEY'S BOOKS ARE NOT JUST FOR THE RECIPES, EVEN THOUGH HIS ARE EXCEPTIONAL--ESPECIALLY THE SNICKERDOODLE RECIPE LOCATED IN THIS BOOK--THEY ARE ALSO A FEAST FOR THE SENSES.
IF YOU HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY YOU SHOULD ALSO TRY TO OBTAIN A FEW OF HIS OUT OF PRINT BOOKS, SUCH AS LEE BAILEY'S CITY FOOD, AND LEE BAILEY'S GOOD PARTIES. HIS RECIPES AND INSTRUCTIONS ARE VERY EASY TO FOLLOW. I HAVE NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED WITH HIS WORK, AND HIS PHOTOGRAPHER, JOSHUA GREENE, DOES JUSTICE TO ALL THE RECIPES THAT APPEAR.
A absolute "must" for those interested in Southern cooking.
This is a fantastic book! Just reading thru and looking at the pictures is a great experience. It brings back fond memories and rememberances of a more peaceful time. Every recipe therein makes you want to cook and entertain friends.
