Fabulous
I've read many self-help books, but this is the only one that specifically and clearly addressed how to identify Anger at God and what to do about it. I appreciated and learned from the examples from the author's own life-why he was angry with God and how he worked through it. After reading this book I am more reconciled to God. I wish I had read it years ago!

DR. BACKUS IS NOT AFRAID TO FACE ANY UGLY HUMAN DARKSIDES.
I PERSONALLY RECOVER AT LEAST 70% FROM MY GRUDGES AGAINST GOD BY READING THIS BOOK.

Excellent and Well Written
This is an excellent example of self-help and I recommend it to anyone who wants practical down-to-earth help.

Best, Most Practical Book About Communicating
As a minister of 22 years, I first read this book about a dozen years ago. It helped me communicate better to my wife, friends, and congregation.

Since that time, I have loaned copies to numerous people I have counseled (I have a stack of these), and many have been helped through putting this book in practice.

Backus encourages direct and honest communication. He deals with the lies we tell ourselves that keep us from speaking truthfully and directly. Besides aiding in communication skills, the principles mentioned will also increase personal sincerity and integrity.

Practical, easy to read, illustrated with case studies, this is a must read for all Christians.

One of the most useful books you'll ever read
Dr. William Backus has done a great service in writing this book. Many big problems start as small problems, problems that could be solved with proper communication and unconditional love.

Dr. Backus writes that by far the most frequently violated command of Jesus is "When someone sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone." Human nature wishes to tell anyone and everyone else but the person who needs to be confronted lovingly with the truth.

The author uses his experience as a Minister and a Clinical Psychologist to guide the reader through the process of loving confrontation. Chapter titles include: "How to have a good clean fight." "How to Handle Critical People" and "How to say no."

The only qualification you need to benefit from this book is to be a member of the human race who routinely interacts with people. No matter who you are or what your station in life, you will benefit from Dr. Backus' insights.

"Wear the old coat and buy the new book."

A Healthy Relationship Guide
Dr. Backus helps the reader to accurately undertand what his/her rights are, and what rights s/he DOES NOT have, within relationships. He also details healthy ways to both manage, and avoid conflict; if at all possible. This is one of the best books I've ever read. (A good companing to this book is the book "Managing Conflict God's Way".)

Best Help for Helpers
Reading this book changed the way I minister to troubled people - myself included. It is the best blend of the Truths of Scriptures and the discoveries of the discipline of Psychology I have ever read. Begining with "so you want to be a counselor," moving to how believing lies hurts all of us, and ending with solid information on the realities of mental illness and the need for medical as well as psychological and spiritual help, this book offers practical information and usable applications which do not compromise on Scriptual truths. It's about time that fundamental Christians stop being afraid of the findings of modern psychology and realize that the truths of Scripture are being discovered to be just that TRUTHS. "Telling the Truth to Troubled People" paves the way for incorportating the truths found in scripture with the documentation found in psychology. A MUST read for anyone who finds themselves in the counseling position - whether a "professional" or "the one everyone comes to."

Review of Untwisting Twisted Relationships
Untwisting Twisted Relationships This is an incredible book. For those seeking to have healthy relationships, this book, by Dr. William Backus, should not be missed. It pointedly yet gently describes the subtle dangers that can enter into a relationship, and dissolve it. A must for Christians who want to keep their relationships with family and friends in a healthy balance, or for Christians who want to undo the damage that has already been done in their relationships. Married couples will especially want to read this book together. After reading this book, spouses will understand why excellent books like "Men are From Mars, Woman are From Venus", by Dr. John Gray, and other excellent titles, are not enough. Not only does Dr. Backus explain how to undo damage that has been done, he explains ways to make sure it doesn't happen again, so that children, spouses, or friends can have consistent, peaceful, mutually respectful relationships. Has enough been said? AN ABSOLUTE MUST FOR MATURE CHRISTIANS!!!!

Misbeliefs be gone
Telling Yourself the Truth has been a book that has gone a long way toward helping me retrain my thinking. I'm starting to see that so much of our reactions to life arise out of the self-talk that goes on inside our own heads. Unfortunately, a lot of that self talk is based upon our past experiences and hurts and we tend to see every situation filtered through those past events. But a lot of the time, this filter that we use doesn't apply and thus it creates a lie or misbelief. Telling Yourself the Truth helps set us free from these misbeliefs and starts helping us see things without the chains from our past.

In my case, I have been struggling with recovering from a divorce. Having failed in marriage, I had conditioned my thinking about relationships and marriage with the feelings of failure and a fear that any relationship was doom to failure. I was afraid to try again and afraid to even be vulnerable. Teaching myself to tell myself the truth and not buy into the fear and doubt and lies of my self talk is a journey that I've begun with the help of this book.

Telling yourself the truth
After reading a countless number of christian self help books, I still struggled with much anxiety, fear, depression & anger. I finally broke down & went to see a christian counselor. He recomended that I read this book. Although I got the version with the workbook included. I don't know if this one has the workbook. Anyway, for me this book provided me with ground-breaking truths of God's word & helped me to identify the silly & absurd misbeliefs I had been telling myself for years! I would reccomend that everyone read this book. If your honest a bout wanting to change & willing to devote an hour or so each day for six weeks, this book WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!!

ABSOLUTELY A MUST- READ
This book was given to me, by my Pastor, nineteen years ago after I suffered an immense personal tragedy. I have read and re-read it a dozen times and continue to be amazed by it's healing and straight-forward approach. No matter what situation you find yourself in, this book can help you evaluate your emotions honestly and bring clarity. THIS IS THE GREATEST TOOL FOR OVERCOMING DEPRESSION I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS.
