A Personal Favorite
Neither judgmental nor defensive, "Lauren Bacall, By Myself" is the best autobiography I have ever read. Extensive and quite well-written, it covers so much ground that fans of the old Hollywood and Broadway days will doubtless love this book whether they particularly like Bacall herself or not. I liked the fact that she did not divide the book into chapters; life is not that way and reading this bio is just like stepping into Bacall's life and seeing it with your own eyes. Cleverly titled (am I the only one who senses a double meaning) and full of life, "Lauren Bacall, By Myself" is a literary achievement for Bacall and a great pleasure for any reader.

Autobiography, Love Story, ect.
Great instite to the life a Hollywood legend. Ms. Bacall speaks candidly about a truly amazing life. Unlike other autobiographies she includes hard times and faces up to mistakes she's made. The love story between her and Bogie is amazing and it's refreshing that she doesn't embellish it while sharing something so personal. Loved the sense of humor and class. Thoughout all the tragedies in her life she mainly focuses on it's positive aspects.

Bogart and Bacall's Great Love Story From The Source Herself
The biggest reason to read this autobiography is to learn about one of the greatest showbiz romances, between film stars Humphrey Bogart and Lauren (Betty) Bacall. It culminated in marriage, movies and children together, lasted 11 years, and only ended because of Bogart's death in his late 50s due to cancer. In and of itself, that is a wonderful story that any woman especially will adore. There are many other pleasures in this book though. Bacall recalls her growing up years with an extraordinary mother and close knit Jewish extended family that saw her through every milestone of her life, including her mother's showing up at a college campus to find Bacall's son when needed. She was a great beauty from the start and got her career going with modeling that ultimately branched off into acting. She also recounts her successes on the stage and her romances with Frank Sinatra (very odd) and Jason Robards, who she married and later divorced. She has two children by Bogart and one by Robards and touches on them as well.

STEPHEN:LOST AND CONFUSED
As I read the other reviews I looked back to see if we were
rating the same book. Unlike one of the other reviewers, I DO
like biographies and as an avid reader ,have read many...
20 last month. This book is 2-1/2 stars at most..Certainly not a "five".
Stephen Bogart allowed himself to become cynical, tortured and lost, with a chip on his shoulder the size of Idaho.
I'm sorry he had such a short relationship with his father, but it isn't too late for him to have a true relationship with his
Father. Without Him , Stephen will have everlasting, unending problems !
As long as his heart is beating, it's not too late, but when it stops, it's irreversible and set forever!

a pleasing reading
I read this book only in search of some of the memorable sentences of Bogart. I'm no fan of biographies of stars. However I must say that I was happily surprised by this book which is quite well written, even with some originality. It is too rare a fact not to be noticed. As to what's inside, I effectively found what I looked for, but I can't tell if bogartmaniacs will learn something new. My only point is that Stephen's position and remarks stroke me by their earnestness and lucidity. I would feel stupid saying that it is one of the best book I ever read, but it is a very pleasing reading. And I would add : happy for you Stephen, even more than for your father.

Excellent Book
Stephen did a wonderful job of trying to sort out his feelings for the father he never really knew. He has a very nice writing style, must of got it from his mom. He took me inside his heart and I was able to feel the pain of the eight year old in the tree screaming at god. I recommend this book to everyone.
