I first read this as a small child and I am bending over backwards trying to get my hands on another copy of this novel! With the help of a brilliant black mare, young Silas escapes a troubled life and rides away into adventure. Part one in a trilogy series, it is with fierce conviction to say that this is one of the best horse stoires I have ever read.

The third book in Cecil Bodker's series, "Silas and the Runaway Coach" is yet further proof that this author knows her stuff! A plucky young boy and his extrordinary young mare find themselves in trouble one last time during this novel, and I highly reccommend reading this as well as the entire series!
