PEDIATRIC DERMATOLOGY
THIS TEXT IS AN EXCELLENT REFERENCE FOR THE NEW AS WELL AS THE EXPERIENCED PRACTITIONER. IT ILLUSTRATES BOTH THE COMMON AND RARER SKIN DISORDERS AND LESIONS. THE SECTIONS ON VIRAL AND BULLOUS INFECTIONS ARE INVALUABLE IN ESTABLISHING A DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS. SECTIONS ON HIV AND MISCELLANEOUS MANIFESTATIONS HELP TO ESTABLISH A DIAGNOSIS FOR THOSE NEW TO PRACTICE. THE FULL COLOR ILLUSTRATIONS AND FIGURES PROVIDE BOTH VISUAL AND DIDACTIC DESCRIPTIONS OF THE DISORDERS. A DEFINITE MUST HAVE IN EVERY REFERENCE LIBRARY

What You See Is What You Get
The authors have undertaken a monumental task in attempting to tell the history of various Native American peoples through a geographic prizm. That said, Compton does a reasonably accurate job.

The difficulty lies in the fact that many Native People were semi-nomadic in habit. For example, the Dghelia Sioux people (The Omaha, Ponca, etc) migrated onto the eastern Great Plains from the Ohio River Valley in recent pre-historical times. And the Shawnee, a well-known nation, only settled into their Ohio "homeland" when the original inhabitants--the Miamiwek--felt pressure from across the Appalachians from the whites and Iroquois, and invited the SHawnee to settle in.

Compton has presented recent theories on these and other migrations and eventual settlements with clarity and accuracy, and has done about a good a job as anyone could expect. His coverage of the sedentary peoples (eg-Hopi) is also first-class.

His history has more breadth than depth, but given the scope of the work, that is understandable.

All in all, a very useful resource book.

Hoped for more ,got less!
I got this atlas thinking it was going to be like the atlas I got as a gift years ago.I bought it as a gift for my nieces and nephews but It did not even draw a glance from them. For one thing its too small and although the Information Is good, the artwork Is somewhat dry and unatractive to most youngters.I hope that they put more pictures, charts, and sidebar Information, ( although the maps are good)If they decide to revise these books, because they are worth having!

Worth noting, maybe worth having...
Like all other atlases in this series, the African volume is interesting, reasonably comprehensive, but way, WAY, too superficial.

The publishers have the merrit of being the first to attempt a continent-by-continent historical atlas coverage. Problem is, their small books are sometimes as much detailed as the corresponding chapter of a more accomplished, generic, World Atlas, like The Times'.

The quality of the cartography/art is so disheartening poor that it is not worth mentioning. Just do not expect anything remotely similar to National Geographic/The Times graphic quality.

All this said, I buy these atlases, in the hope that the publishers will eventualy decide to realy invest in these titles, making a new, wholy improved edition. You can make the same and actualy have some value for your money.
