For a good cry......
read one of the short pieces in this anthology. They are also incredibly uplifting too. A brilliant bedside companion for any dog lover.

Not a sad read but a celebratory one
Although each of the pieces in this book was inspired by the loss of a much beloved dog, this is really a book about vibrant, fully-alive dogs: family pets, fellow hunters, soul mates, and best friends. And while none of the dogs remembered so fondly here still lives, Old Dogs affirms the remarkably special place in the heart we reserve for our dogs. My own dog is sturdy in her middle-age, but reading the eulogies and odes in this moving anthology has made me appreciate more all the quirky habits I take for granted, like how she can't resist running off with one of my Reeboks when I'm shoeing up for our evening walk--the little prance she performs when I tell her, "Bring the shoe back!" Not a sad read but a celebratory one, required for every dog owner!

Makes wonderful reading.
This is a remarkable anthology of stories and poems by outstanding authors of the past, as well as more recent times. Although these moving remembrances are only of beloved dogs, the lovers of any species of pet will find identical sentiments for their own losses. Whatever kind of companion animal you had, you will find your own bereavement and healing tears reflected here, as well.

Care was taken to avoid over-sentimentality, in this assortment of loving reflections of dogs, celebrated here. These accounts are full of love, and are sometimes even funny - and we are thrust into the realization that perhaps that is the most wonderful kind of living memorials we can have for a beloved pet. Too often, we lose this perspective, while trying to keep from drowning in our own bereavement and sorrows.

Rather than being a collection of sad literary memorials Old Dogs Remembered is a joyful celebration of life with pets. This inspires healthy new points of view and adjustments to moving on into our new lives, without them.

Here we are treated to many different outlooks on how they permanently enriched the lives of their owners. Reading these heartwarming pages will broaden the understanding of each reader, concerning his/her own personal bereavement. Here, we are offered the collective wisdom of others, who reminisce on their honored pets. There is much to be shared and learned here, as well as enjoyed.

With so many different authors, one must appreciate that references and styles have changed drastically, through the ages. As an example of this, some might find the essay by the dramatist John Galsworthy to be interesting, but a bit troublesome to read. And, as with any anthology, there may be some accounts not everyone would appreciate. But all pet lovers will readily identify with the overall shared remembrances, here. This is a heartwarming collection, which can be enjoyed comfortably, in several installments.

There will be many an uplifting tear shed in its reading, and we suggest it for your reading pleasure.

here is a play that truly is a little miracle. the script is so honest and touching in a way that almost anyone can relate to. i just saw the production on broadway with jayne atkinson and woody harrelson and absolutely adored it. the whole cast has done wonders with these simple words that Nash has written. it was a delightful production and i urge everyone to read the script even if you cannot see a live production. you will love it!

A specialized slice of early American frontier history
Wheel Boats On The Missouri: The Journals And Documents Of The Atkinson-O'fallon Expedition 1824-1826 is an archival reference showcasing a specialized slice of early American frontier history - as reflected by the original words of the wheel boat men who were directed by President James Monroe to negotiate peace treaties with Native American tribes along the Missouri River. The resulting use of 475 infantry soldiers, "gunboat diplomacy," and man-powered wheel boats across a 3,000 mile expedition is meticulously detailed among numerous primary references. Journals dealing with daily life, navigation difficulties, American Indian cultures and political negotiations provide an amazing glimpse into army life in an America of almost two centuries past. Wheel Boats On The Missouri is an impressive work of scholarship and a strongly recommended addition to academic and community library American history reading lists and reference collections.

Misses the Forest
I picked up this book because I was told that learning ASP would be a good introdction to web programming. While the book is thorough, it tends to bog down in detail while not making clear what is central and what is secondary. So the authors spend one scanty chapter on control structures--absolutely crucial to any programming--and then devote the next chapter (of equal length) to a terminally detailed discussion of built-in functions--which should have gone in an appendix. This might be a good reference book for someone who is already a programmer, but by the end of the first "week," this newbie was completely lost. I had to put the book aside and learn more about programming from some better written JavaScript and beginning programming texts before I could come back and make sense of this text.

Advice: Don't purchase this book unless you already have sufficient programming background so that the introductory chapters are really "review" and that you can distinguish what is important from what is secondary.

This book helped me develop complete content site myself
After spending a lot of timing researching books on ASP, I fortunately ordered this one. I was able to go from zero knowledge to a decent grasp of the basics in a short period of time. While my goal was not to become fluent in the language, I had enough knowledge to be able to modify the very limited scripts provided in Dreamweaver Ultradev 4. I finally managed to achieve my goal: develop a full-blown content site (an online version of our company's print publication). Since launching the site a few months ago, we've signed up 4000 users, a good number for our very niche audience. I couldn't have done it without this book, and it saved our company tends of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars because we didn't have to outsource development to Web experts who charge an arm and a leg for this kind of thing.

Some gaps though such as total lack of discussion of CDONTS object to enable web-based email, something I'm picking up from other books.

But overall, a fantastic pick. I keep referring to it over and over.

Understandable, Extremely Helpful; Best Book for ASP 3.0
The title says that you'll learn ASP 3.0 in 21 days, but you'll learn so much more! You'll learn how to write your code so that you or a co-worker can expand or change it years later; how to use business objects (and Microsoft's built in objects); how to design multi-page projects for maximum efficiency; how to read and write from a database; and, most importantly, when using a certain method (such as connecting to a database) is most helpful and when it's a resource-wasting idea.

This book has its own support forum linked off of the 4guysfromrolla.com webpage so that Scott Mitchell and millions of 4guysfromrolla.com fans can provide you with help if a code example isn't working. ASP and ASP.NET folks seem to be the happiest 'been-there, debugged that' programming community on the web, so don't be shy.

If you want to build interactive applications, but your servers aren't running Microsoft.NET or a similar runtime, this book is for you. If you want to learn how to make cool webpages, this is your book. Learn VBScript in a browser-independent format? Buy the book. It's just that good!

Exceptional short stories
An interesting mix of styles and subjects, something to appeal to a wide variety of readers. But all of these stories share one thing - they are beautifully written. If you love good writing, love literature, you will love these stories. Highly recommended.

This book was a bit of a disappointment ...
Some of the pictures were nice ... but the information seemed quite generic and not specific to the chow chow at all. if one wants to learn more about chow chows, read another book!

I loved the pictures
Pictures were great and there is some useful info, but over all
I was a bit disappointed.

Just a generic dog book
Although it has some useful information for new dog owners this is just a generic dog book. It has very little specific to Chow Chows. It is mostly information that could apply to any breed. If you want to learn about Chow Chows pick another book.
