The book is a good portrayal of one's ability to learn
When reviewing the book Cleversticks, I feel that children will find this book very appealing. Many children can relate to the conflict that occurs in the story and find it comforting when they realize that other children go through the same difficulties. The pictures are also very vivid and bright, which is very eye catching for it's young readers.

this book was great. I enjoyed it all the way through. I could hardly put it down. A touching read. Very interesting. Strongly advised by me for my teenage friends. Loved every part of it. A good deal to buy or borrow. Gripping action the whole way!

Great 19th Century War Stories
This a great collection of 19th century war stories, beginning with the Napoleonic wars and going to the late 19th century. It contains stories not only from the British point of view, but also from the French. It introduced me to authors I'd never heard of before, and whom I'll have to follow up. Even Mark Twain is included with stories about the Civil War. A great read!

Almost, but not quite
This books almost makes it as a compelling tale of an orphaned youth who is rescued from tribal war in Africa and taken to a "better life" in England. His anger and resolve are contrasted to clan/gang rivalry in England. The premise and story line of the book are both fine. The problem comes from the confusion of details. The reader is never quite sure who belongs to what group and why they do what they do. There just isn't enough development. I never got enough from any of the characters to really care about them as much as I wanted to.
