Great Man, loved Baseball and his country.
This is super cool book. The whole time reading it, I wished they made it into a movie. Berg's father was well known doctor. He wanted Moe to be one also, like Moe's brother. But Moe loved baseball to much. He joked how he could speak all though languages, but couldn't hit in any of them. Let see, Moe goes on a spying mission for the government to Japan during a tour with Babe Ruth. He takes photographs atop a building which were used during bombing attacks. Moe goes on a mission to find out how close the Nazi's are to getting the bomb. He dresses up as a Nazi and spy in one of there plants. He is instructed to kill a professer if that professer's knowledge will assit the Nazi's. Berg may not have of brought victory to the Redsox,(who could?) but he was one of team USA's MVPs during the big one! I highly reccomend this book.

People- get over.
I read the original biography when I was in college(circa 1988). I can't even remember who wrote it. I checked it out of genaral stacks. It's a great story. Dude lived out a fantasy. Got paid to play baseball for 13 years. Hob nobbed with DC's elite. Served his country. What a great guy. Then I read these reviews. Who cares if he's a Jew. I'd forgotten (until you bookworms reminded me). I forgot becasue it wasn't important. Debate his contributuions? There's nothing to debate. He did what he wanted and when duty called, he laid it on the line. He's a hero. No need to discuss it's importance. I would have loved to have had a beer with him. Rest In Peace, Moe. Signed, Mike Twigg. Ordinary average guy who has a life and an occasional beer. PS-Moe briefly played for the Cleveland Indians. AKA "The Tribe". Don't even think of getting PC with me.

This book does a fine job on discussing the debates on the abortion issue these days. Anyone who is interested in reading about what the issues really are should take a look at this book.

What is propaganda?
This book is for the naive, those who are not intellectually curious, who are perfectly happy with the ersatz of the official U.S. government sponsored propaganda, no matter how shamelessly imperialist and biased. In brief, this book is destined to indoctrinate schoolchildren and high school pupils. Ms. Andryszewski, as proves her oeuvre, is one of those hired authors writing on various social and political issues who always shows the U.S. as the Good Daddy helping the weak, the poor and the oppressed around the world. Unfortunately, the truth is to the contrary, Uncle Sam turns out to be a bully that brings much of the world's death, suffering and destruction. Not different in Yugoslavia, Kosovo and the Balkans. There Clinton's government with his Secretary of Hate, Madeleine Albright, suddenly fell in love with the most terrorist Islamic organization in Europe, the UCK (alias KLA). But Ms. Andryszewski does not mention UCK and other Albanian criminal killing, intimidation, and other sorts of discrimination directed against the Serbs and other minorities in Kosovo taking place for several centuries, and recently intensified after Tito's death. Ms. Andryszewski does not want to see this ethnic cleansing performed by Albanians as it would not be convenient as an explanation of the U.S./NATO bombing of an independent country fighting a secessionist insurgency. Neither she mentions that this bombing was contrary to all the international laws, that it broke the United Nations charter, the NATO charter and even the U.S. constitution. When she talks about genocide she does not base her opinion on facts either. So far about 2000 victims (most of them Serb soldiers and Albanian guerrillas) were found in Kosovo despite the loud trumpeting of such a genocide by U.S. corporate mass-media before the bombing. Moreover by using the word genocide she offends the real victims of genocides, such as those of the Holocaust. Clearly Ms. Andryszewski's sympathies are on the Albanian side. When she talks about the past history of Kosovo, she places the ancient presence of both nations on more or less equal grounds. She forgets that all the historical artifacts, architecture, cemeteries, churches, art, literature and archeological excavations show and prove only the presence of the Serbs, not of the Albanians. When Ms. Andryszewski talks about the situation in Kosovo and Yugoslavia during World War II, she mostly omits the criminal collaboration of Albanians with the Nazis (for ex. the infamous SS Waffen Skanderbeg division) and their active participation in extermination of Serbs. When talking about the break-up of Yugoslavia, Ms. Andryszewski does not want to look to the roots of that development, to U.S./German sponsorship of secessionist forces, to CIA and U.S. mercenaries training of insurgents, to U.S. greenbacks and weapons constantly flowing to those forces. The Racak massacre as described in the book is blamed on the Serbs. Ms. Andryszewski does not mention the facts that put in doubt such a conclusion, that the KLA tampered with the bodies, that it was likely that the KLA staged the massacre. The Rambouillet negotiations fiasco is again the fault of much demonized Milosevic. She forgets to mention that the a priori prepared agreement contained a secret military annex demanding an occupation of whole Yugoslavia by U.S/NATO forces and in fact was an ultimatum or a new "Munich" that only traitors could sign. Ms. Andryszewski does not make a big deal out of U.S./NATO "collateral damage" (as expressed by NATO's Goebbels - Jamie Shea), i.e. of hundreds of civilians killed, of destroyed houses, hospitals, schools, churches, cemetaries, factories, TV station, bridges, trains, buses, cars, of polluted by depleted uranium and cluster bombs environment. I guess, the new master race is in its rights to kill those insects - Slavs. She is very optimistic about the present and the future despite the ongoing facts. The ethnic cleansing and murder of Kosovar minorities under the protection of KFOR proceeds unimpeded.

Ms. Andryszewski's book is a distortive and manipulative piece of propaganda trying to justify criminal actions of her government. AVOID THIS BOOK, find the truth youself!

Great Explanation of Situation
This is, simply, a great book. And simple is the best word for it. The book doesn't skimp on facts and gives the best and most accurate overview of the history of the war in Kosovo that I have read. This book is relatively short; if you need a lot of detail I recommend "A Short History of Kosovo" by Noel Malcolm. But Malcolm's book, despite it's title, is very long and detailed. If you just want an easily read book with great photos that will leave you understanding the situation, this is it.

Accurate Overview of Situation
I have lived in Kosovo for the past 2.5 years, and during this time I have done a great deal of research on the history of Kosovo, the conflicts between the Serbs and the Albanians, what led to this war, the affects of it on people from both sides, etc. I have lived and worked among the Albanians, helping them rebuild completely destroyed homes and lives, but I have also been to many intact Serbian monasteries in Kosovo, and prayed with Serbian Orthodox Christians in their churches. I came to Kosovo immediately following the war in 1999 and saw firsthand the immense physical and emotional devastation caused by this war. I say all of this only to qualify my opinion because it is very different from the other review of this book.

I thought this book was excellent, and that it acurately explained the situations, not only in Kosovo, but also in Bosnia and Croatia, that led to the many wars the Balkans have experienced in the last few years. I found the book to be extremely unbiased. It is a very quick read and therefore somewhat limited in scope, so I would recommend Noel Malcolm's "Short History of Kosovo" for anyone seeking greater depth.

Obviously, what happened in the Balkans is a very sensitive topic for many people. But if you are looking for an short but accurate portrayal of the war in Kosovo, I highly recommend this book.

Good non-fiction for kids about the Dust Bowl
Dust Bowl: Disaster on the Plains focuses on the natural and human causes of the Dust Bowl of the 1930's. I read this book with the eye of a fifth grade teacher who was looking for good non-fiction on the topic of the Dust Bowl. The book is broken into five chapters describing natural causes, human causes, impact on people, government intervention, and the possibilities of history repeating itself. This is a good book to show the impact humans can have on the environment, or how climate affects the way people live. It is most apporpriate for a fourth or fifth grade reader.

A basic introduction
This book, aimed at a younger audience, contains a dense body of information about the beginnings of the Gay Rights movement, from 1969 to 2000. It's highly informative, if a bit dry. It's also extremely neutral in its treatment of both pro-gay and anti-gay politics and beliefs, although the book overall is more gay friendly than anything. A good, basic introduction.

Liberal bias in the higest degree
This book is clearly bias toward the far left. The author has grouped normal patriotic people and organizations with violent racists and extremists. This is the process of linkage which is used for people's (in this case, the author's) political agenda. The author seems to believe that anyone who owns firearms, opposes liberals, opposes government wrongdoing, and wants smaller government is somehow to blame for the actions of a few exremists. By the time I was done with this book, I was enraged to say the least. It is really a shame that our youth has to be subjected to this...

I haven't read the book, but the author should investigate.
The OKC BOMBING was the result of extreme hatred created by a series of events. The murder of Randy Weaver's wife and son, WACO, and most important, the destruction of Iraqi by American smart bombs. Nichols and Mcveigh acquired the materials taking almost six months. John Doe 2 an Iraqi, built the bomb in an old white truck (later transferred to a Ryder) with the help of an Islamic Jihad terrorists cell from the Middle East and concealed by local jihad in OKC. Killing children was the plan for John Doe 2. His hatred was uncontrolable. I was a witness to the events surrounding the bombing. There were Americans that hated the Federal Government that wanted to destroy the Murrah Building. The Iraqi's actually did the job with a truck driven by Tim Mcveigh.

Would-Be Primer of the Militia Movement That Goes Awry
This book tries to be a good introduction for young people to the anti-government militia groups. It would be if it weren't for some large flaws in it. One MAJOR drawback is when it inexcusably ties legitimate dissent with the government to virulent, violent anti-government groups. It is still an American right to not like government policies and for the book to link this with those who were responsible for the Oklahoma City bombing is irresponsible at best and subversive to the U.S. Constitution at worst (I believe the Constitution mentions something about citizens being able to petition the government about grievances). Also the book tries to "chill" free speech by quoting out of context talk radio icons Rush Limbaugh and G. Gordon Liddy (neither one of them were advocating violent rebellion if the author took the time to read the COMPLETE transcripts of their shows that is quoted). The book attacks the NRA for daring to support 2nd Amendment rights and being critical of Federal agents who overstep their bounds. The tome doesn't stop there, though. The book goes on to imply that the GOP in Congress shares blame for the Oklahoma City bombing because of their anti-bureacracy rhetoric. According to the book, dissent IN THE GOVERNMENT ITSELF BY MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNMENT is tied to violent militia groups and gives these groups encouragement. An impressionable young person reading this will come away with the idea that all dissent by citizens, all protesting government policy, and all political debate on the size of government are all evil because it leads people (ie militia types) to commit violence. I only hope that the young people this book is aimed at does more reading on their own so they will realize that they too can disagree with the government and agitate for change without being lumped together with violent groups. Agitation and disagreement with the government is a FUNDAMENTAL American freedom and it shouldn't be thrown away.
