For all ages
An excellent portrayal of a story so familiar to Hungarian refugees who left during and after the '56 revolution. It's truly a book for all ages. A book that draws you in, paints a picture and teaches lessons of life.

A captivating story that conveys the horrors of war
The Fall of The Red Star is an incredibly captivating book that is applicable today to convey to children of all ages what people go through and the changes seen during a war. This book was read to my daughter's fourth grade class. They were amazed at what this normal kid went through, watching his 'normal' daily activities change from school, homework, parties, and chores into the horror of fighting and killing to protect his family and fighting for his country. It is a story all adolescents should read and a horror I wish no one should ever experience. Read this book. Then read it with your kids.

Helps the new kid try out alternatives
In this interactive book, the reader is allowed to try different ways of connecting with potential friends in a new school. It works well to stimulate discussion about ways of meeitng and making friends.

Parenting Press publishes "The Decision is Yours" series of books. Each book deals with common dilemmas faced by elementary or middle school students. At the end of each page, the reader is asked to make an ethical choice. Based on the choice, the story takes a different branching path. Positive, negative and intermediate outcomes are available. The potential outcomes are not sugar-coated. Sometimes even the "right" choice may not have an entirely happy

This book not only helps children realize that they can make choices that affect their lives and attitudes, but also teaches them that they are not alone in facing the discomfort of being "the new kid." Excellent first reader - very funny!
My kids laughed histarically when we got this book from the library for my six year old to practice reading. My four year old also wanted to read it himself. The text is simple enough for them to repeat after I read it to them. They love this silly book so much I'm going to buy one for them. It is definately a keeper!

for a second generation
I disagree that this book can be scary for little ones. I used to read this book to my now 16 yo brother when he was 2 yo. He had it memorized and just loved it! It was his absolute favorite book. I found it again and now I'm ordering it for my 6 yo daughter.

Humorous Bedtime Battle
My children loved reading the creative attempts to escape going to bed. Adults can also relate to the young frogs antics. The illustrations are very expressive and the vocabulary is great for an early reader. This book is one that will be read many times.

Great Quotes!
Couldn't find this one on the shelves of 5 national booksellers in my area... and only two could order within several weeks to a month. If you find a hard copy, grab it - great coffee table book.

In do research for publicizing Mar 00 Women's History Month activities, someone let me borrow their copy of this book because I like to add quotes to my work and in program scripts. I was delightfully impressed to find quotes completely by women... not necessarily just about women (some of those are not flattering).

32 varied women are portrayed with a brief biography and quotes by them. Interspersed are loads of quotes from numerous women from all walks of life on diverse subjects.

"I'm not a has-been. I'm a will be" Lauren Bacall...

"Don't be afraid to feel as angry or as loving as you can, because when you feel nothing, it's just death" Lena Horne

"If you haven't forgiven yourself something, how can you forgive others?" Delores Huerta

Very Moving Book
Peggy Anderson spends several months observing patients in one of the world's top hospitals for children. Six children are extensively studied with a variety of physical problems including CF, rare facial deformities, severe injuries, premature birth, birth defects, and cancer. It is a very emotional book and describes the challenges the children face and how they cope with them. I highly recommend this book.

Hilarious, Heartwarming and Fun!!
Peggy gave me this book, autographed to my children, in 1996 when we went to the same church. I didnt know then what a big difference this one book would have to us. It actually improved our love of books. Its been my children's favorites ever since and its held up through 3 childrens' handling and reading. The story is colorful, imaginative and everyone loves it! I'm so proud of her books, especially this one, that has continued to warm our hearts even after 4 years of reading it frequently. If you want a book that will endure years of reading and enjoyment, the kind of book that gets passed down in the family.. this is the one to get. You will treasure this one always, like we do. A Nurse With A Personal Opinion
This book is about a head nurse on a medical-surgical floor in a hospital. Some of the information would give someone a good idea about the hussle and bustle of the nursing field and it's stresses.
A lot of this was the woman's 'personal' feelings about nursing and not all nurses feel the way she does or would or would not do some of the things she did.
She is also 29 y.o. and this was written in 1978. A WHOLE LOT has changed since then. Don't believe this book is the gospel on nursing because it's not. It does give a good basic over-all view but is more a journal of a 'new' nurses experience.

Worth reading
I would recommend this book to any nursing student or new graduate. It deals with nurse-doctor as well as nurse-patient relationships in great detail with descriptions of actual individuals and case histories. While certain things have changed in the 25 years since the book was published, it still makes for informative and entertaining reading.

Great book, much still applicable to modern times.
I bought this book at a local store not knowing anything about it, I had went there to look for something else and it caught my eye since I would be starting my first semester of nursing school in a few months. I started to read it but soon had to stop when I got into the hustle and bustle of nursing school. My favorite thing about this book is that it is from a very deeply personal point of view. I didn't buy it for technical knowledge or even the hopes it would give me an inside look at the life of a nurse. It's too old for that, but I have to admit the cover lines, "Doctor's don't keep you alive, I do." caught my attention more than anything. It is finals time now at the end of my first semester of nursing school, and I have just finished the book on my thanksgiving break. I'm glad I did because I felt very inspired and comforted by reading it. Especially now that I too have begun to feel the stress, anger, fear, and lack of confidence that can accompany being new to nursing. My favorite parts of the book were when she got really specific about her opinions on nurse-client relationships, especially relating to death. It's also encouraging to know that since the mid seventies there has been a push to bring more respect to nursing as a profession, and not just a servitude position for weak women to get close to doctors as possible husbands. That of course doesn't apply to me since I am one of few men to go into nursing. I loved reading about how someone in there mid to late twenties enjoys being tested by her job and life, and is still able to grow and change into a better person. I definitely would suggest this as a good book to read for all nursing students, and all nurses, no matter what job title, age, or specialization.

Fun for the preschool set
I brought this title home from the library for my two year old son. He instantly fell in love with it! I said, "What do you think this book is about?" He said, "Bug". I said, "What kind of bug," and he replied, "Blue Bug". From then on he was hooked. This brightly colored book is filled with familiar school objects, and assists in teaching colors, letters, and numbers. It would be a valuable addition to any preschool or home.

Not enough background
This is just a list of good quotes. The author should have offered a little background behind each quote, such as when, where, circumstances, speaking to whom, after effect. The book is so small I lost it, but I am not too upset.

Greatly Watered-down Quotations
This book doesn't cost very much, but it doesn't provide a lot either. With only about 400 quotes in very large type, this feels like a supermarket checkout filler item. The reason I give this one 3 stars is due to the fact that most of the quotes are pretty good. So, it's the best of the 'Great Quote Series' but that's not saying much. Save your money and invest in the Random House Websters Quotationary instead.

Pretty nice. Can be quite useful..
I found this book quite interesting though the only thing I'd say it's lacking is an index, so that if I wanted to find a quote in a certain subject, I wouldn't have to go over all of the book to find it.. But it's no dictionary so you don't expect it to have an index.
I recommend it for those who like to read smart and thoughtful stuff that important people had said once.
