This is a FABULOUS book.
Louie Anderson does a fantastic job of detailing the life of children growing up with alcololic parents. I have never read a more moving book, and cried in several places because of how great he painted the picture of life in his home. Everyone should read this book!!

Brings Dysfuntion to a whole new light
I read this book because someone recommended it to me. I'm not an adult child of alcoholism. I'm and adult child of child molestation. This book really helped me deal with the pain of growing up "different." I recommend it to anyone who felt different growing up. I started writing letters to the person who I am most angry at and it's really helping me to become more comfortable with myself. Thank you Louie Anderson for bringing such a painful experience out in the open.

A must read for anyone who has a father
I picked this book up in a library in college and couldn't put it down. Louie Anderson describes his relationship (or lack thereof) with his alcoholic, abusive father. The stories he relates are heart-wrenching and real. The book is a collection of letters Anderson wrote to his father after his father died. This book was of particular benefit to me after my own father died, though he was neither an alcoholic nor abusive. The book finishes with letters Anderson has received from readers that relate their stories of a need for resolution or closure with their own fathers. It's an easy read, dripping with painful irony (you'll laugh while you cry--I promise), and will help just about everyone gain a new appreciation for the impact fathers can have on children.

This is a great book about all types of additions
Louie Anderson once again brings the struggles of his life to print, and opens up his heart and soul. I found this book even better than his first. I hope he decides to keep writing, he is very talented at bringing the reader into his situation.

Excellent, Entertaining, & Eating too
Funny and poignant, from Anderson's heart and stomach are a guide to life, coping, eating, love, comedy, and performing. Also manages to be downright hilarious with straight-ahead stand-up comedy. Somehow it all works. And very nicely, too. Inspired and inspiring.

Wonderful, sad, emotional
Louie Anderson does a wonderful job of revealing the true self. Especially the dialogue where he becomes Jumbo the elephant. He never mentioned a Love interest (human, not food) who could be support he so needed during these transitions he struggled with, the treadmill, death of his mom, selling the home, etc. Louie remains a real human, down to earth, complete with dysfunctional family. It was difficult to see him as the superstar wealthy comedian image we see. Whether it is food or some other controlling addiction, low self-esteem, children of alcoholics, pained school years, many can relate to his struggle. A good book by a funny man!

A gift.
My wife fell in love with Louie while watching him host Family Feud, so I got her this for Christmas. Combining humor with unflinching honesty, Anderson uses his own troubles and family history to try and understand how best to let go and let wounds heal. Easier said than done, but entertaining reading nonetheless.

The king of comedy does it again!
Louie Anderson, the king of family comedy, has done it again. He has brought us into his family by sharing his deepest secrets on how to survive the burden of having "family time". Louie has the ability to draw the reader into his world and make us all feel like part of his family. His survival tips are stellar and writing unsurpassed. He truly knows the way to our heart by an honest look at the strange people we all have in our families. Our hats off to you, Louie, and writing partner Carl Kurlander for a brilliant look into the science of family relations.

The F Word: How to Survive Your Family
The F Word is a wonderful followup to his book, Dear Dad. Louie's candid reflection of his family life leads the reader to ponder one's own family dynamics & how we deal with them. Louie's humor is playfully interwoven so that it is entertaining, as well as insightful!

Not much comedy...
this is more of a story of the comedy club, and not really a whole lot of comedy is on the cd. I was hoping for more Jim Carrey on the CD, but there wasn't enough to please me. There are some interesting moments on the CD, and it may be good for you if you want to know about the history and so forth of the comedy store.
