Ten star book
This is a rarity of a book since it doesn't spend a lot of time telling you stuff you don't need to know, but is what it says. A book about the various means of composting whether you live in an apartment or have an acre for an organic vegetable or flower garden.

The illustrations are helpful and easy to follow. And if you think you cant compost or that it will just be to hard, this book will change your mind. It is also an important book in my opinion, because Americans throw away so much useful compost material or grind it down the kitchen garbage disposal. By composting your kitchen and garden wastes you not only produce rich soil but you build up the entire eco system. And with garbage dumps becoming full and new ones harder to find I think that composting of kitchen and garden wastes should be a law.

Who am I?
If a bear wanted to find out his/her family history, this would be the encyclopedia to buy. Being a teddy bear is still very in vogue. This is a fascinating way to find out why we love teddy bears and why they appeal to collectors all over the world.

You can read about all the best-loved bears, from the original "teddy" to "Winnie-the-Pooh. The latest collectibles such as Beanie Bear and the Millennium Bears are also included. Pauline Cockril is the internationally recognized expert on the history of the teddy bear. She is also a regular contributor to Teddy Bear Times.

If you see a teddy bear and instantly want to buy it...this book IS for you. Also look for The Ultimate Teddy Bear Book which is considered to be the bible of arctophily (bear collecting) and is used by collectors, dealers and toy shops around the world.

The first bear listed was made in 1902 and was an experimental Steiff bear. The bears are listed all the way up to the year 2000. If you think you have seen it all...wait until you see the Pink Dino, a Swiss bear with characteristic elongated designs that I think looks more like a monkey. I much prefer the 1991 Pam Howells bear that has a lace collar, shaggy golden mohair plush "fur" and a cute hat trimmed with fabric roses. The Australian Teddy bear on pg. 137 looks somewhat like a koala bear for some reason. :)

I know a place where a lady has bears sitting everywhere in her Bed & Breakfast. You just want to take one of the bears home with you. In each room, she also has a "resident" bear that sits on the fluffy down-comforter covered bed. The whole place is like one big teddy bear picnic. I bet she knows about this book!

It is just unbearable not to own more bears. I must go shopping since I gave away most of my teddies when they had a teddy bear drive for kids. It was sad to say goodbye to some of them, but I know they are now happily living with a child who loves them. I do think it is time to start collecting again!

All Bears DON'T Look Alike!!
This is a great "beginner" book to learn about the points that distinguish one bear from another. Somehow they all seem to look alike at first!!

This book teaches you to pay attention to whether the nose is stitched up and down or from side to side. Are the feet big or are they little stumps? Are the eyes glass or plastic? Are the ears close together or far apart? Are the arms long and pointed or short and stumpy? These all are clues as to the date and manufacturer of the bear!!

Includes a section on repairing an antique bear (less is better!) as well as a section on newer bears!

A great learning tool! Written so it is easily understood........you don't have to already BE an EXPERT to BECOME one with the help of this well written book!!

I wanna go there.
I have read it, and has some neat stories about flying in the bush. Which is where my wife and I plan to make it some day.
Good reading!

Appreciative student
I had the pleasure of attaining a lifetime dream of learning to fly an airplane. I didn't immediately appreciate my good fortune to be led step-by-step through the process by my instructor, Jim Anderson. As I played the unintentional role of test pilot, stretching the limits of the plane, my instructor kept a very cool head, showed tremendous patience and provided life saving tips to enable me to become a pretty good private pilot. I always wondered how Jim could maintain such a relaxed presence with every new danger I provided. I had heard bits and pieces of his flying past - from naval aviator during WWII to pioneer in the Arctic. I have thouroughly enjoyed filling in the blanks by reading this book. Jim is every bit the hero that the book portrays. And more than that, he has the highest level of honesty and integrity (tested in aviation and elsewhere) of any person I have encountered. I recommend this book without reservation.

Great book on the Alaskan Bush
Having been a pilot in Alaska for 25 years and having been lucky enough to be taught to fly by James "Andy" Anderson it was hard for me to put this book down until I was through. Once you realize how unassuming Andy is you really appreciate the experiences he has been fortunate enough to have had in a very unique place and time. His unbelievable skill has been finely tuned by many years of daily flying only a few can appreciate. I highly reccommend it to pilots and non-pilots alike. He is truly a ledgend on the Koyukuk River and Brooks Range area of Alaska.

A Nice Guide to Growing Garlic.
Most gardeners don't think of growing garlic, because it is so plentiful and inexpensive at the local grocery store. The problem is that there is only one kind of garlic available at most grocery stores and markets, and that limits variety to be sure! There are over 72 different cultivated varieties of garlic! Each variety has its own distinct aroma, flavor, and level of spicyness. There are even hot garlics! Elephant garlic isn't a true garlic, so it doesn't count.

This book is an indispensible introduction to, and guide for growing garlic, and it even has some places listed where you can get the different cultivars of garlic.

The book is arranged into 3 parts. The introduction deals with the natural history of garlic. The second part deals with the different varieties, and the difference between the hardneck and softnect varieties. It also deals with the history of cultivated garlic. Examples of different garlic include Korean Red, which is a hot garlic, Spanish Roja, Polish, German Red, Inchilium Purple, Silver Skin(the variety usually found in stores), Montana Giant, etc. Each one has its own characteristics and each one has different storage time, growing time, and harvest time.

The third part deals with the cultivation techniques and gardening techniques associated with growing great garlic.
The author has gone to great pains to explain in detail the different methods used in growing garlic, from a commercial scale to the individual organic farmer to the individual home gardener. It is extremely helpful to the garlic novice, that is for sure.

I have used the methods outlined in this book, and in 1999, I liked this book so much that I ended up finding an organic garlic grower in Texas, and got 7 varieties of garlic and started them in a raised garden in October of 1999. In just 8 months I had my first harvest, and it was really cool to grow such distinct garlic in my own garden. This stuff is also expensive, the rare garlics, so it is advantageous to grow your own.

This book is softcover, 229 pages.
I highly recommend it to the home gardener who wants to try something new and delightful.

If you only own one book on growing garlic--this is the one.
If you only own one book on growing garlic--this is the one. From the history and enzyme groups of garlic to "how to properly clean and store" it, ron covers it all. The Bibile for garlic growers. Get the suppliment from FillareeFarms.com to get the most up-to-date expert information on this wonderful fun food.

If you want to grow great garlic, you need this book!
Garlic is not just what you find in the supermarket. And once you begin to realize the enormous variety available, you, too, will want to have that sensational patch in your back yard. This book is the "how to and what is" bible for garlic growers everywhere. Even we were able to grow good garlic thanks to all of the guidance from Filaree Farm. Get this book now. You have until fall 1999 to prepare your garden for growing garlic. And while you are doing all of the planning, be sure to place your order with Filaree for garlic "seed" they will be harvesting late this summer. Just remember, though---the lusty, mouthwatering descriptions prove to be irresistable. Just because Filaree offers more than 450 varieties does not mean that you have to plant all of them, even though you will want too. Be prudent!

And, if you love garlic the way we love garlic, you will also want to order a dozen or so varieties just for eating! Start with Chesnok Red,a purple stripe hardneck garlic that is absolutely sensational when it is roasted.

From a beginner's viewpoint
I had already started my restoration, when I ordered Runabout Renovation. It helped assure me that what I had done so far was OK, and gave many good pointers for later processes. Jim Anderson speaks in a frank manner, is quite thorough, and takes things in a logical progression without jumping around topic-wise. I'd love to see an updated and/or expanded edition with even more content dedicated to some of the fine folks on the web. A must have for your bookshelf if you're going to restore that old boat!

Great Book!
I bought this book through references from a group of restorers on the internet. I was very pleased! This book takes you all the way through repairing and restoring an old runabout, from finding the right boat to final touch ups. I would call it mandatory if you're looking to restore an old fiberglass runabout.

Just like the title says.
This book goes through the basics in an intellingent and easy to read manner. I read it in two days, I couldn't put it down. If you want to purchase and renovate a late 1960s, early 1970s speed boat, BUY THIS BOOK. It spoke to me!

Inspirational
I really enjoyed this book! Beautiful photographs accompany the inspirational stories and corresponding prayers. A great book for reflection and solitude.

A Meaningful Gift!
Christine Anderson has done a masterful job of combining her skills as a writer and an artist in compiling this work. As a result, the book is an above average gift item for special people in our lives no matter what the occasion. Many gift books look good at first glance, but seldom get used again. This book has the depth of content and quality that enables it to be utilized time and again. Thanks to Christine Anderson for an outstanding work that all of us can use and enjoy!

Beautiful words and pictures
A beautifully compiled book of inspirational stories and prayers. Many famous contributing authors with stories to uplift and inspire. The prayers, "Words of Wisdom" and scriptures that accompany each story complete each theme. I have many pages marked to read again and again. Colorful scenic pictures throughout. Makes an excellent gift book too.
