Fantastic help with projects and experiment , simple
My 9 year old son needed help with a science fair project. I had no clue how to help. He checked out a book he thought was cool because of the title and cover. The book was what we needed; it had several fun easy to follow projects. We immediately were able to try 3 with supplies we already had at home. Needless to say he was able to complete his project in a short period of time while having fun. I decided to purchase the book. We will never have to be without an idea for the science fair again.

The Bald Eagle: Free Again!
A well written realistic adventure of two children visiting a wildlife refuge made to protect the American Bald Eagle. Their naturalist guide introduces them to facts about the life cycle of the eagle, folklore, and environmental issues. Beautiful watercolor illustrations enhance the story.

Reading level: 4th grade

a fun fact filled book that keeps kids interested
I bought this book for my 4 year old - who is really enthralled with sea life - especially Orcas. Its a great bed time reading book - 1 chapter at a time. Lots of facts that are interesting for adults too.

A Jumbled Mess!
I took three of my children through some of the projects. If I wasn't a machically inclined person so able to adjust their misinformation I would have never gotten through it. My 14 year old son did the project on the cover which doesn't look like the explained project in the book. The one we built was way more fuctional.
My 12 year old daughter did the "Don't be so dense" project and she managed to get through it but was confused about what their conclusions were.
My 9 year old son did the "get the point" project and we worked and adjusted so much and spent so many hours making it's known conclusion work that I have been soured from science projects.
They did do the projects themselves with a bit of engineer tweeking from me but those books should be clear enough for a child to understand and someone should actually do the projects to see if they work. It's amazing it ever got published. Probably some publishers inept niece.

Nice experiments -- Wrong explanations
There are some great projects in this book. Unfortunately, many of the "Analysis" sections are just plain wrong in their explanation of the scientific principles. For example:

"...piece of glass called a prism, which slows down the speed of light." (p. 29)
"...gravity pulls harder the more material there is..." (p. 77)
"Light travels slower in water than it does in air." (p. 79)

There are many, many others.

This book is in dire need of a science editor if it ever gets republished.

No! No! No!
I couldn't wait to receive this book and possibly have another reference for my high school students as they learned how to write a research paper. As soon as I opened the book I noticed obvious mistakes in format and even incorrect information for the Works Cited page.
If you need help with MLA documentation, you're better off to buy the original MLA Handbook. (It also includes APA format) Whatever you do . . . do not trust this book.

worth every penny
If you are like me lost in the full version of the MLA, this is for you...the answer is always a few pages away.

out-of-date information
The APA revised their citation guidelines in a new publication dated 2001. It is the fifth edition. Therefore, Carol Amato's book has incorrect information in it.

Not a complete guide
Be careful if you are considering purchasing this guide. There are two formats of APA style (submitted and published). This manual only covers one of the formats. My school requires the one not covered so the book was of no use to me.

Book not for the beginner; not simplified enough.
Information not always clearly explained, not for the beginner. Still had to sort out alot of guidelines that were not clearly presented in the APA Manual. Could have used more examples. For example, the headings section could have been explained better with more examples rather than only one. The "On-Line" citation information was confusing and of little help.
