GPS guide, great descriptions, totally dependable. Dont waste time with others, buy this one!

I bought this guidebook a few years ago and it is definitely one of the best. It fits easily in our seatback. He covers many trails. What has been helpful about his book, is that the mileage is given in both directions, so you can easily figure out where you are given your starting point. All the cross roads you come across are described as well, so you don't wonder, should I have gone that way. His mileage was right on with our odometer. I have a few other guide books, but his is definitely the best because of the detailed description of your road trip. Highly recommend. With his book and a Trails Illustrated map, no reason for you to get lost.

I do not own this book, but had read my friends quite a bit, when we actually took our first 4WD trip, we used a competitors book. It paled in comparison, this book is so much more informative. The directions are flawless and the photos and histories it details make it much easier to find the trail that suits your interests.

I was at the Outdoor Expo and was looking at a much smaller book, for half as much money...It was the only one I saw (and they were very numerous) on the many trails Arizona has to offer.
Well I passed it by, and told myself on the way out I would probably buy it, well I am glad I waited, I stopped by the booth and noticed one large book at the end of the table...it was the last one, and was 3 times as much. After about 4 pages, I shelled out the cash with a smile on my face! This book has it all. Very, very well detailed, with maps, directions, history, flora , fauna, wildlife, stories on ghost towns and past characters of local legend. What I really liked though was all the COLOR pictures...giving me an idea of what I WILL find when I travel these trails. This book also has much information on what kind (s) of 4WD you will need for what trails, levels of difficulty...things to watch for, what depth of water at the crossings to expect....and well organized to boot. The cover is heavy duty , so it will last bouncing around in the back. This book is great and I love it! If you have a 4WD and are looking for a little adventure and fun from easy to difficult and you are doing it in Arizona..........you need this book. See you on the trail!

I've taken about a dozen of the trails in this book and not one has been disappointing. The author's credentials speak for themselves. He's logged thousands of miles in Arizona. All the GPS coordinates are accurate and the directions are second to none. I would recommend this book to anyone.

I really like the fact that this book differs from so many others in that the directions are easy to follow. It is designed for the average person interested in driving back county trails, not only for the "hard-core" four-wheeler. The book is user-friendly.

Simply wonderful. I enjoyed every page of this book and could not wait for the next. Being a huge fan of Ornette's, this was the first attempt of approaching literature based upon him. Forever waiting for his yet to be published (and probably written) book of Harmolodics, I could wait anymore and this book ensured me I shouldn't have.

This is a great little book on Coleman. I wish the bio section at the beginning was more detailed (it states that a more representative bio has been written though it appears to be out of print). The section on Coleman's Harmolodic system was very interesting and written in a way that someone with limited knowledge of music theory (i.e. me) could comprehend. The write ups regarding all of Coleman's recordings were fascinating. Where many writers praise everything their subject touches, here the praise and criticism seems to be very objective. Sometimes writers show a preference for either Coleman's acoustic quartet or the electric Prime Time group but Wilson handles each on its own merits.

I arrived in Nairobi in 1981 for a two year stint with a multinational. When I voiced a desire to learn Swahili, my boss' wife recommended this book.

In one month I was speaking Swahili well enough to deal with any situation that could possibly arise. This would not have been possible without this book. Other sources, such as "Teach Yourself Swahili" aren't anywhere near as good. This book was originally written for the settler, missionary or expatriate who came out mainly from the UK, had to learn Swahili fairly well and fairly fast in order to cope in the area, and didn't have the time, money or inclination to sit in a classroom or hire a tutor. As such it is not written for the academic, traveler or dilettante, but is still designed to be thorough and move along at a reasonable pace. On completion of this book you will be able to deal with street situations, read the local newspaper and understand the radio, and yet also have a sufficient grasp of the structure of the language to move into more esoteric things, such as medieval Swahili poetry.

The copy I have was printed in Kenya, and I don't know whether or not it is being printed anywhere else. Anybody interested in learning Swahili should try to get a hold of this book, and I hope that Amazon will manage to track down a source, if possible. My copy's not for sale!

This book makes Kiswahili rahisi sana kufahamu. The lessons are very well organized and it's extremely easy to use. I stayed in Kenya for three months and with the help of this book (and a lot of babbling) I was able to communicate quite well.

This is the best book I ever used to study Kiswahili. And I've tried a couple... It is not apt for tourists who just want a quick insight into the Swahili language, but it is perfect for people interested in staying in an East African country. It contains good explanations on grammar, lots of vocabulary and lots of exercises. It teaches you, how to read, write and speak the language in correct grammar using the right words. In short: thumbs up and very recommendable!

The best book for beginners. Gives ratings and some pictures for all the trails, so you know what to expect. Probably not a whole lot for more advanced off-roaders, but then they probably won't be reading this book anyway. I recommend this book for anybody with an SUV who wants to use it off-highway. The only downside of this book is the detail maps of the trails. For some reason, they couldn't agree on which way to point North(usually north is up in all other maps) so sometimes you have to turn the book sideways to the right or left to get your bearings. Also, not much detail on the maps themselves, so sometimes you really dont' know where you are in relation to the surrounding area. But they give plenty of detail in the driving directions, so you almost don't need the map. Best book I've ever bought, anyone who likes to adventure outdoors should buy this. You don't even need an SUV on the easier trails.

First thing that hits you is the heft of this book. It is large and heavy, but that just tantalizes you of what lies beyond the cover. It is full of so much information about southern California's backcountry you could spend hours and hours reading. But this book is to be used as a guide for exploring. And guide you it does. The maps, descriptions and details are excellent for each trail. The history section is great and my family and I even used this book to identify plants from its full color photos on our last outing. For anyone wanting to explore dirt trails in So Cal, from mild ones not really needing 4 wheel drive to more difficult ones, this book is for you. Rock crawlers need not apply, but for the other 99% of us with 4x SUV's this book is perfect!

If you've seen the second edition, this edition is a big improvement, with much better coverage of CT and MR. It's an excellent book both for radiology residents and practicing radiologists, who are looking for a single-volume text which is both readable, and sufficiently comprehensive to use as a reference. Top-notch.

Most comprehensive and manageable text on chest imaging. Covers all aspects from plain film to newer modalities. A Must for any busy department.

I have designated book reading times only a few times a week. So if I'm really into a book, it will go all over this little island. Mother Kirk must have graced the presence of my barber, dentist and several relatives. Jam-packed with wisdom and filled with many quotables throughout, this book will challenge Evangelicals to reassess their practices (the appendix's 32 questions for elders and wives would be very helpful if church's had the spine to implement such a needed and biblical screening) and more importantly their identity.

I found myself almost cheering out loud in chapters 2- Reformational Identity and 4- Thunder of the Word. I also found myself taking special notice of the chapter on the sacraments. Compelling arguments for the use of leavened bread and of course real wine. Loved the part on baptized children partaking communion. Also enjoyed the chapter on the Sabbath.

If you are satisfied with living out a convenienced, mundane, 9-5, unionized Christianity (AS-IF! but sadly some are), don't read this book. If you are a Christian who thirsts for more and more, get this book right away. You will be provoked to reevaluate your, your church's and evangelicalism's current status. You'll then be provoked to forward the cause of Christ. Fired me up.

One of Wilson's best. Covers many aspects of theology of the church to starting a literature ministry

I have known one of the authors, Iva Wilson, for many years. When I served with her on a Board I thought she had a remarkable ability to distill an idea that was in the air in such a way that we all took full credit. Based on this experience, I anticipated that this book would help me with organizational learning, which it did.

The authors have written a very useful and stimulating volume. For me, as a senior manager and then as a consultant, Organizational Learning has been an abstract and academic topic. In contrast, this book relates the actual experiences of two CEO's - both their successes and failures - in terms I can relate to my own experiences.

One of the great strengths of the book - though it will be a source of discomfort to those who want easy, tidy, answers - is that it makes clear how individual each organizational learning effort is and must be. The route is often not clear; changing directions is a necessity, not a detour from a know-able optimal path.

The differences in the CEO's experiences can make for difficult reading because they do NOT prescribe a single approach or method. I found it hard to keep straight what each one was recommending. Finally, I realized that I needed to craft my own approach using their stories as stimulus. Eureka! A very worthwhile experience.

Learning, true learning, takes courage. Being a life-long-learner means being comfortable admitting that all our previous thoughts, feelings and actions-while they were the best we could do at the time-were limited by what we had not yet learned. Being a learner means admitting that the answers we believe in today are always limited by what we will learn tomorrow.

One of the things I love about this book is the courage the authors model in admitting that learning has inherent risk. I know Iva Wilson, but I had no idea of the power of her story until I read this book. I gained a whole new perspective of the pain and heartache that can come from being a CEO with a vision that others do not fully appreciate. I am thankful that she and Bert are willing to tell of their failures as well as their successes in their journey to create organizations where people can be more authentic and humane. This book asks me to stop, the next time I am being judgmental of another's' passion, and listen more deeply to their story.

I have studied much about organizational learning, but this book gave me many stories that brought the meanings behind Peter Senge's book, The Fifth Discipline, into a new light. I understand organizational double-loop learning in a new way. And thanks to Iva, I have a new appreciation of the risk and the power of dialogue.

This book would be a comforting companion for anyone who fears they are not smart enough to "do it right the first time." None of us are.

This is the first book on OL that I would feel comfortable passing on to a business manager. Most of the others I've read are more geared toward researchers in the area. But the work is thoroughly researched and referenced, so even researchers will find the book a good lesson in how to write for the business audience! The summaries of key contributions in the field (esp Argyris, Schon, Senge) at the beginning would be a great primer for someone new to this area of research, and the practical advice in the later part of the book in terms of questions to answer at each stage of going forward with your OL effort were highly appropriate.

If you thought that Islam was just a bunch of fellows in white thobes and headdresses running anround oppressing people, this fun and educational little book will help expand your horizons! Another truely excellent title put out by City Lights Books, author Peter Lamborn Wilson covers some of the more...colorful patches in the tapestry of Islam. This book deals with Muslim Thinkers who for one reason or 'tother, are generally considered heretics by many of the larger sects of Islam. We are privalleged to meet Ibn Arabi and the Noble Drew Ali, and delve into subjects such as Satanism in Islam, sexuality and authority in Sufism, and more. The volume includes poems and enjoyable illustrations, photos, and calligraphy throughout.

As a note to anyone with a specific interest in African-American religious figures in U.S. history, the essay "Lost/Found Moorish Time Lines: In the Wilderness of North America", Wilson offers what may be the best essay to date in ANY publication, on the Noble Drew Ali and the Moorish Science Temple of America. Included is information about the relationship between the Moorish Science Temple, and Elijah Muhammed, who founded the Nation of Islam. Lots of NEW information in this essay alone, as with the others in this book...did you know about the connection between Islam, Masonry, Shriners, and Moorish Science? Wilson includes footnotes and references with his work, and there is a complete bibliography at the end of this volume.

The tone of this book is scholarly, it is by no means a sordid "tell all" work. You won't find proselytizing or propaganda in this volume. If you're tired of the same old repetitive drivel from the same old droning finger-wagging sources, give this book a read. I suspect you will appreciate the time you spend while journeying through its pages.

Contrary to much popular opinion of Islam as a monolithic giant, in its midst are the 'heretics' that put the fun back in religion. Considering that such figures as Jesus and Muhammad were considered 'heretics' in their day the title is actually a compliment.

I picked this book up in a second hand bookstore on a whim. I have revisited it several times and continue to do so often. At first it appeared dark, mysterious, foreign, pointless. But as I continued to explore it became more and more obvious that the light of the Divine makes its way through these pages and this Divine light I swear is grinning like the Cheshire cat in Alice in Wonderland.

Islam is diverse, vast, deep and this book explores some of those areas in the remote regions of both the physical and the spiritual world with style and wit and just a bit of a knowing smile. Well worth the adventure.

Peter L. Wilson is amazing. this book touches on a subject that few have taken up, a seemingly homogenous religion (Islam) and its many "heretical" traditions. also important information on "fringe" movements w/in the U.S., the whole Noble Drew Ali. this book made me happy to be alive.
