artful thinking
it's a very useful books and practical. i've started applying and feel pleasure getting to know my thinking style and others as well. you can improve the way you think. useful...

Thinking-- a child's play?
Thinking-- a process we normal people are constantly doing in most of our lifetime. However, have anyone of us thought how do we think? It's an interesting question. Indeed, only very few of us have come across this question. This book have classified most people's styles of thinking into 5 main categories. Nevertheless, the book includes a test to help you identify your preference of thinking. If you do it seriously, you'll eventually find the result very accurate in helping you know more about yourself. Meanwhile you will identify the which classes do the people surrounding you belong to, in order that you will know how to deal with them using the most suitable approach. More importantly, you'll realize your own strengths and liabilities by reading this book. In such a way, you can develop the strengths that you already have and improve your liabilities. Hopefully, life can be a lot better if you can take the suggestions mentioned in the book into practice. Even if you are not preparing to take what this book alleges solemnly, it's still a great fun letting your friends do the test. You'll discover a load of things that you've overlooked! Thinking is a child's play, as well as a Herculean study.

Low Profile High Impact
I have been an ardent student in the subject of thinking most of my life. In my extensive libary on the subject this humble looking, modest styled book is one of my most prized. The notion that thinking styles are most profoundly influenced by sets of fundamental beliefs about the way the world works allowed this approach to be infinitely more useful to me in dealing with other people than many far more publicised and popular approaches. I hope you find the content of this book the gem that I have.

Excellent, personal adventure
Here is an average American couple that does something we all dream about - but most never do - sail away to the South Pacific. In addition, the author takes us through their boating and non-boating lives in an interesting way.

Probably the most compelling theme is choosing to run your own life - i.e. they had to decide to quit working, deal with home ownership, grown kids and so on, to realize their dream.

So in that sense it is resource for anyone thinking about realizing some dream, it doesn't have to be about boating. But for those of us that like boating, well it is that much better.

She's a good writer and I'd sure like to see another book on what they did after they returned from the South Pacific. Highly recommended!

Wonderful!
An extremely captivating, well written book! It was a relaxing read that allowed me to see what life would be like living on a boat. There is so much more to cruising than I ever imagined - although it would be amazing to see the world aboard a boat, you learn what hard work it is and how dangerous it can be. Not only is this a book about cruising, but also about real people and their emotions and their relationships. The author and her husband's relationship is strong, but its strength is tested by this trip. I absolutely loved this book and hope you'll get a chance to read it sometime!

deserves to be on the book shelf of every boating store
What a wonderful book. You tell such a descriptive story. It is just fantastic. I have been reading numberous books on sailing addventures and yours deserves to be on the book shelf of every boating store.

Must-have for ur office
10 years have passed and I'm still using this great dictionary ! It's one of the best English dictionaries ever produced. It's a comprehensive dictionary of current English, and is written in a straightforward and readable style.
Features:

- It has numerous encyclopedic articles covering a wide range of subjects e.g. current affairs, important people throughout history, science and technology, medicine, history, the arts, philosophy, mythology, sport, places like countries.
- Chronology of world historical events. Sometimes when I feel bored, I just open the dictionary and start to read this attractive section !
- It has some clear grammar and usage of a word (but not compared to Longman's Dictionary).
- It contains word origins, which makes me rush to open it if I want to learn more about the origin of a word.
- Appendices containing: Countries of the World, The Commonwealth, States of the USA, The British islets and constitution, The US constitution, the UN, the European Community, Kings and Queens of England and the UK, Prime Ministers and Presidents, World map section in color, and more !

Useful dictionary for your office or at home.
Enjoy using it.

Essential for all die-hard fans of the afternoon serial.
A beautifully illustrated book with plenty of information on the history of soaps, this book may be as interesting to sociologists as it is to soap fans. Most noteworthy, is the way it differentiates the soaps from one another in terms of issues that each tackles and why. It is interesting to trace how soaps such as "Painted Dreams" began on radio and what appealed (and didn't) to various audiences throughout the decades. Eg: Isn't it hard to believe that "Guiding Light" (On Cable In Sydney) was orginally a 15 minute radio serial about four ministers? Many soaps mentioned in the book will probably be unknown to younger Sydney audiences such as "Search For Tommorrow" and "As The World Turns" which haven't been on the air for years (decades?) but there is good coverage on todays lineup as well. If you like this book you may want to check out A book by Jean Rouverol called"Writing For The Soaps" (1984) and "Soapbox" (1990) Hopefully a television special of a similar nature to this book could be done because the archive material itself would be priceless viewing.

large volume, not enough proof, introductory, good organizati
It seems that authors have pictures unrelated to content of the text repeatedly printed. It does not cover major topics, such as .gif/ graphic file compression. On the positive side it is well-written, organized, multiple equation in some chapters, descriptive in others. Very little mathematical proof.

The most complete book on vector quantization
An essential book for researchers and engineers working on vector quantization. It provides a (nearly) exhaustive description of the available VQ methods, with analyses and discussions. The book concentrates on VQ, so don't buy it if you're not interested in that only. Most math tools explained. Could be a little bit outdated on some aspects -> things are moving fast in the field.

This is a very good book for students and engineers.
Many useful concepts of digital compression can be found in this book. It is easy to read and understand, especially for students and engineers in EE.

There are many other php books
I own and constantly refer to this book and am constantly disappointed. The PHP Developer's Cookbook (nearly identical cover) is a handy book, but don't waste your money on this one. If you need a good basic introductory text on PHP look to the 56 other PHP titles Amazon stocks. The examples in this one are unclear, the treatment of most topics is incomplete. While the introductory chapters provide an interesting overview of PHP's functionality, it cannot be depended on as a faithful reference for day-to-day use.

Just compare its treatment of classes or data types to that in other texts. Or give a careful read to functions that require careful documentation-like formatting of dates. The book just leaves you confused or in the dark. The book doesn't even do a decent job of summarizing the online docs. I wish I had been more careful.

Whether you are a beginner or an advanced developer this is just not the title you want.

Average
Nothing too spectacular here. Basically it is the manual from PHP.net reworded a bit and put in a book. What really disappointed me was that I could find no reference at all to the manual on PHP.net. I really thought they should have included some type of mention in the Acknowledgements section.

On to the book. They do provide a brief introduction to PHP. It is exactly that, brief. It is not meant to be exhaustive as this book is a reference book, not a tutorial.

Before I got this book, I exclusively used the PHP.net manual to look up functions and such. When I got this book, I really didn't think it would be of any use. I have found, however, that by keeping it right there on the desk I do look things up in it. Sometimes it just feels better to look something up in a good old paper book. It is also nice to be able to have the page open and glance back at your code to compare syntax.

Would I recommend this book? It all depends what you plan to use it for. The manual will definitely suffice and will be more current. But, if you are just itching to get a PHP reference manual in a hard copy, this is your choice.

Excellent reference
I'm only giving this four stars because the information is freely available elsewhere. Nonetheless, this book is a wonderful reference to have on hand. It's the only PHP book (and I have plenty) that consistently sits on my desk. I find it to be a valuable reference tool for quick lookups, and for finding functions that I'm not sure how to spell.

It's a dictionary--not a tutorial. It doesn't teach you how to write your code (when was the last time you used a regular dictionary to come up with structure and form for a poem? You don't. You use it to look up words.) If you're looking for tutorials, you'd be better off looking elsewhere. If you use PHP day in day out, you might find having a paper reference on your desk to be helpful. Sometimes you just don't want to have to call up another web browser to search php.net, or wait until your DSL provider decides to spring back to life and allow you to search the net for a bit of syntax that has slipped your mind. The price is right, and it's a good reference book to have in addition to a book of tutorials or other learning material.

i have seen the wind, and it's cold enough for me
this book opens with blackwood's great story: the wendigo. B is the master of the setting, noone can create the background and atmosphere like him. a very well written story from Brennan here. and Meloff's story is also an interesting read. derleth is at his best here. i don''t care that much for the guy, have never considered him to be HPL's great successor or anything, but he knows how to write, and i have always considered his story about Ithaqua to be his best contribution. the rest of the stories are well written. i don't think any of chaosium's anthologies contains of so much good writing than this. but good is not great. and the rest of the stories never turns out to be really good. the suspence killed by irrelevant writing going on for too long, mostly. sad. but the book is still wort reading
