Bar none-the best academic book you will ever read on advert
Whether you are a new student or an old hand to the world of advertising, you'll learn a lot from this text. The ability of the authors to take a subject of such complexity and break it down into terms that anyone can understand shows their immense knowledge of advertising. The integration of print, radio, television and alternative media along with the ongoing integrated marketing communications case sets this book apart from any other text I've read. Most text books put me to sleep where I found Advertising interesting and inspiring. The exhibits used to represent examples of different executions of advertising made it easy to comprehend the concepts. I found myself reviewing every ad I came in contact with in my personal life and assessing the target, direction and effectiveness of those ads. Great Job!

Exellent book that will make you and your baby smile
I cannot say enough good things about this book. The pace of the rhymes give it a very whimsical beat that babies love. The pictures are bright and colorful. Lots of parent/baby interaction can occur while reading the book because there are plenty of things to point at while reading. The book familiarizes or reinforces (depending on the stage of your baby)different sites and senses. I started reading my twins this book when they were 9 months and they are now 20 months and they still love it. As a parent, you won't tire of reading this book, either...because you will be reading it ALOT.

BUY THIS BOOK! IT'S A WINNER!

nice colorful pages, sturdy cardboard
Nice sharp colorful pictures. Lots to spend time on if you want -- plenty of things to talk about on each page. (Or you can rush through it and keep starting over if your child just likes the rhymes and the page-turning.) The text is all about noticing smells -- pie, laundry, outdoors.... A short book, and very sturdy.

John Coltrane's Giant Steps

A Visual Jazz Masterpiece.....
"Good evening. And thank you for coming to our book. We have something very special for you tonight. It's John Coltrane's marvelous and tricky composition, "Giant Steps," performed for you by a box, a snowflake, some raindrops, and a kitten..." So begins the conductor's introduction to Chris Raschka's brilliant visual jazz rendition of Giant Steps. First he explains a little about who John Coltrane is, and how his music was composed, "...[he] wrote music which, in his hands, became swirling, leaping, tumbling "sheets of sound." That's what he called it. But why tell you when we can show you?" Then the composition begins with the raindrops, the tempo, "not too fast and not too slow." Next he layers the box, the base, "...the bottom. It's something to build on." Here comes the snowflake, the piano, "showing us the harmony, the beautiful frame." And last, the kitten, the melody, "watch her take some giant steps across the page." As Mr Raschka "conducts", problems begin to occur, the shapes and colors collapse, and he finally yells STOP! "People, people! What happened? Okay, okay, let's take a look at some trouble spots." After detailing when, where and how each shape went wrong, and giving constructive directions, the composition begins again. "Let's take it from page 14. Raindrop, box, snowflake, kitten. GO. Sheets of color. Sheets of sound. Bravo. Bravo, everyone." Mr Raschka's entertaining text, written in an engaging, conversational style, is informative and enlightening. His layering of shapes and colors provides a clever and creative visual understanding of jazz and John Coltrane's "sheets of sound." Together word and art dazzles, Giant Steps comes to life on the page, and imaginations soar. Perfect for youngsters 6-10, John Coltrane's Giant Steps is Chris Raschka at his very best, and is an innovative and inventive introduction to understanding jazz, no young music lover should miss.

amazing and creative
This book is really something! It's unlike any other book I've ever read. It is not just a book -- it is an experience. What a creative mind Chris Raschka has! My 4 year old and my 7 year old both loved it. So did I. I highly recommend it.

One of the greatest hero epics in sci-fi.
For those of you who enjoy brilliant character development, intense action sequences and adventurous story telling, look no further than the Sten series. Authors Allan Cole and Chris Bunch transport you to a future where man travels the depths of space with ease, the human Empire spans thousands of light years, and mankind has mastered the ultimate power source: AM2. The Eternal Emperor finds his realm beset by adversaries who seek to gain control of the Imperial AM2 supply. With enemy plots threatening to destroy his empire, the Eternal Emperor turns to Sten and Alex Kilgour to help in the Empire's struggle against the powerful and ruthless Tahn invasion fleet. This novel renders amazing space battle scenes, defines courage and valor in the face of overwhelming odds, and is an excellent chapter in the Sten series. Having read hundreds of titles in my life, the Sten series ranks as one of my favorites of all time and I highly recommend it.

An Approach to Self Discovery
I, like the author, set out on a journey into self discovery in order to answer the question "who exactly am I and why am I here"? I questioned "what makes us who we are"? Where do all these ideas and beliefs of mine come from and how can I manage to change recurring situations I get caught up in creating that seem completely out of my control to do so? Was I taught these rules of life? Did I think them up on my own? Where did they come from and how did I happen to assimilate them and start believing them to be true without ever really questioning them? Are they really true at all? This book helped me find answers to some of my most pressing questions.

I found this book to be a well organized step-by-step process of mental awareness of the origins of Self unfolding as I read it, taking me down a guided path of self discovery. In it I found rational explanations and tools for better understanding my Self and why I act, feel and think the way I do and it's really helped me discover who I AM underneath all the other stuff I've been buried under. The examples and tools provided assisted me with individual self analysis which I found to be very helpful as I'd wanted to modify certain behavior patterns and this helped me to become aware of where they had actually originated from. It took me to the root cause of the matter, better enabling me to make corrections at the source. It walks you through the initial child mind rationalizations and base formations of experience all the way up into adulthood and how these ideas and thoughts create what happens to us in our outer world.

I especially like the viscious circle "endless loop" scenario explanations and how we create these for ourselves. What a great way to put things by drawing them out like this. It made it easier for me to actually see what I was doing by using this method. I use it now when I see myself creating recurring situations in my life. It helps me to identify the root cause, change my behavior/reaction to something and move on from there. Very easy once you practice with it and get the hang of it.

I would recommend this book for readers who are interested in psychology of the self, self discovery and self discovery methods, metaphysics, those who see cyclical events happening in their lives and want to take ownership and change them from happening, anyone who "hates" their lives and wants to change, those interested in how we manifest and create our own circumstances and anyone else looking to further their understanding of themselves or embark along a path such as this. I've found it a great reference tool. Note: being honest with oneself while reading this book is a MUST.

On Target and On First with me!
I recently sailed from N.Y. to Southampton, England on the Q.E.II and was knocked overboard when I discovered that Chris Costello, Lou's daughter would be presenting her slide and clip show entitled "Lou's On First." What a magnificent journey Chris took me on during her 1 hour show. I immediately purchased her book in their bookstore and for the remaining voyage could not put it down! Bravo Chris Costello for your wonderful, beautiful and candid insight into a man I adored, your father!

The Mad Dog got me reading again
I never read books. Chris Russo got me reading again. It is a great read for ANY sports fan because the Mad Dog has great open minded opionons on sports, sports personal and historic sports. One thing I really like about Russo's view of sports, is that he kept it do events he saw in his lifetime. I can argue with some subjects with the MADDOG for days. Thank for Chris for getting me envolved with reading again.

My musical 2 year old loves it!
I saw this book on "Between the Lions" and I loved it, so I bought it. I figured my daughter (then about 18 months) wouldn't have any interest, but I'd keep it until she got older. Boy, was I wrong. She loves it. She loves looking at it by herself and she loves us to read it to her. I'm not a major jazz fan, but the book is impossible to read without feeling the rhythm. The illustrations are fun and the cat looks just like ours!

First book my son read and read and read...
Picked this book up at the Library after it was featured on PBS's Between The Lions. My son never put the book down, so we bought it. The book is fun, easy to read for children, and the pictures are great. Both my boys have it memorized and read it often.

whimsical and delicious
No doubt about it. A classic that has my three year old now in love with be bop. Beautiful, whimsical paintings and delicious text! A great alternative to usual kid book drivel and TV engineered pap like authur, bernstien bears and disney stuff. Looking for children's literature. You found it.
