You need to sing the song to appreciate it.
This has an accompanying song that is sweet and very fun to share with your little one. I wouldn't consider it a book for learning letters, so if you're looking to teach ABC's this isn't what you want. This is a book that ups the snuggle factor at bedtime and gives you a visual aid if you sing the song as well.

If you're looking for a fun rendition of the song, you won't go wrong with the John Lithgow CD, 'Singin' in the Bathtub'. The whole CD is worth the money.

What a sweet book and song!
I got this book before my daughter was born and sang the song to her in the womb. She now sings along babbling as I sing. It is a charming little book about ABC's and the beautiful blessing of children. It is sure to be a big hit for any new parent!

a book that glows
It's not easy being a little kid sometimes, but this lovely and positive book is filled with nice things to say -- A you're adorable, B you're so beautiful .... Who wouldn't be cheered up?

The illustrations are gentle but lively images of children playing around large letters. I am not familiar with the Kaye-Wise-Lippman song others have referred to, but the book is enjoyable anyway. Though I would rather have had a phrase for each letter of the alphabet rather than three strings (MNOP, QRST and WXYZ), I suppose that makes it fit the song.

Particularly useful when your toddler or young reader is down in the dumps, this gentle reminder tells them that they are special and loved and important. If you know the tune, all the better!

The High Renaissance And You Are There
This is an extraordinary book, on many levels. It is a concise abridgement of a much longer work and a fine, readable translation of the original 16th century Italian. More importantly, the substance is priceless. This is nothing less than a guided tour of the amazing events of the late 15th and early 16th centuries, from a clear-eyed, surprisingly objective reporter who knows whereof he speaks. Guicciardini was, among other things, Machiavelli's assistant and an adviser to popes. Writing from the vantage point of his personal observation of the events of his lifetime, he discusses: the Medici, the building of the dome of St. Peter's for the jubilee of 1500, the related sale of indulgences, the ensuing "Lutheran heresy," the discovery of the new world, Henry VIII's divorce and the ensuing separation of the Church of England, and the arrival of syphillis in Europe, among other topics. Be warned that it is dense material, but it is worth the effort.

Great Italian history for the serious reader
An exceptional account of Italian Renaissance history by a prolific contemporary of that time. It covers a short time period: 1490-1534, which is filled with political upheaval. For good reason, this is considered a classic. Guicciardini is an intriguing source, having held high military and civil offices. In addition to his informative and clear style, he gives valuable insight into the political climate of these years.

The translator, Sidney Alexander, not only provides a very readable version, but enriches this edition with a helpful introduction and notes, revealing much about Guicciardini and his account.

Although, not a light read, it is not tedious, and definitely worthwhile for the serious reader.

Owed to Horace
This may be a fine book of translation but on the whole it is not poetry. Compare versions of any ode translated by Alexander and Ferry and you'll see: Alexander is working with language, Ferry is working with poetry. If you want Horace's poetry, buy the Ferry text.

The Complete Odes and Satires of Horace (Lockert Library of
A brilliant translation that takes a one-time "required reading" to a new plane. Lively, witty, enjoyable makes Horace a man for the next millenium. Sadly I must tell your readers that the translator Sidney Alexander, a wonderful renaissance scholar who has written extensively on Michaelangelo has died (Dec. 11,1999) at the age of 87.

now easily the best Horace in English!!!
This translation by Sidney Alexander kicks David Ferry's in the butt, no exaggeration! David Ferry's absurdly popular version is wildly overhyped, with his friends in academia lining up to contribute glowing blurbs for the cover. Believe me, this is THE translation of Horace that you will want to read and re-read!
