You need to sing the song to appreciate it.
This has an accompanying song that is sweet and very fun to share with your little one. I wouldn't consider it a book for learning letters, so if you're looking to teach ABC's this isn't what you want. This is a book that ups the snuggle factor at bedtime and gives you a visual aid if you sing the song as well.

If you're looking for a fun rendition of the song, you won't go wrong with the John Lithgow CD, 'Singin' in the Bathtub'. The whole CD is worth the money.

What a sweet book and song!
I got this book before my daughter was born and sang the song to her in the womb. She now sings along babbling as I sing. It is a charming little book about ABC's and the beautiful blessing of children. It is sure to be a big hit for any new parent!

a book that glows
It's not easy being a little kid sometimes, but this lovely and positive book is filled with nice things to say -- A you're adorable, B you're so beautiful .... Who wouldn't be cheered up?

The illustrations are gentle but lively images of children playing around large letters. I am not familiar with the Kaye-Wise-Lippman song others have referred to, but the book is enjoyable anyway. Though I would rather have had a phrase for each letter of the alphabet rather than three strings (MNOP, QRST and WXYZ), I suppose that makes it fit the song.

Particularly useful when your toddler or young reader is down in the dumps, this gentle reminder tells them that they are special and loved and important. If you know the tune, all the better!

Magical memories!
I recieved this book when I was three years old from my grandmother (over 25 years ago) and I now give it to any expecting mother I know!

lovely nighttime poems to read to your children
A cousin sent this book when my first child was born in 1992. I started reading it to Christopher when he was eight months old, and we read it nearly every night for two years. I gradually came to know each poem by heart, so we could "read" without even looking at the book, just rocking in a chair or driving in the car. The poems are so sweet, so whimsical, so dear, that they stay with me to this day, and I'm ordering several copies to give to friends with young children. Christopher and I still go through them periodically, and I think back on the days that he would fall asleep in my arms to the lyrical words of this book.

My first favorite book
When I was little I'd checked this book out of the library so many times my mom eventually bought me my own copy. I loved it so much, in fact, that I learned to read on this book! The games the kids play may be not socially acceptable anymore (cowboys & indians, cops & robbers), but they accurately capture the era in which the book was written and certainly pale compared to the book's payoff. A must-have!

Simple, sweet, and perfect for preschoolers.
This is a very cute little story, told all in pictures. A little dog and his little boy are relaxing in the park, and a big dog steals the little dog's bone. The little boy gets the bone back for his dog.

Then the little dog has his dream. In the dream, his boy gets his football taken by some big bullies, and the little dog comes to his rescue. But in the dream, he is huge! And waking from this dream with a little smug doggy smile, he catches the big dog returning to steal his bone again. Still full of the triumphant dream, the little dog routs the big one with a single determined bark!

It's sweet, it's upbeat, and it carries a nice little message about self-confidence. It's just right for the little ones who love stories, and cannot read yet, but love to page through familiar books to retell the story to themselves.

A Family Favorite
This book is wonderful. It is my 2 1/2 year old daughter's favorite. The story is simple. Little Maggie wants to catch the moon and take it home. She trys several ways to catch it, but in the end, decides the they sky is where it really belongs. The pencil drawing are beautifully done. This is one to add to your child's collection.

Absolutely sweet.
This story is one of the cutest I have seen. Very few words but the pictures tell the story. Lilly and Willy are so very adorable and both of my sons grew up looking at these books and loving every minute of them.

A story about a girl who loves watching the train pass.
A short and warm story about a young girl, Jane, whose greatest thrill of each day is to race out to see the train as it passes near her home. She loves seeing all of the different cars, waving to the engineer, and playing a guessing game about the color of the caboose. She dreams about the train, where it goes, and who else stands around to watch it pass by.

4 1/2* Copycat Play---to a Point!
This is a friendly and simple board book with a few delightful surprises. First, the young reader (or audience) may not initially realize that main characters "Jane" and "Teddy" are the dolls of the titular "Lily" and "Willy." Second, after several gentle scenes where Willy's Teddy copies whatever Lily does with "Jane" ("Jane wants to climb a tree. Teddy too."), Teddy surprises us by not copying the nap that Lily gives Jane: ("Jane wants to take a nap. Bear NO!")

It's a nice indirect take on the difficulties of naptime and the individuality of toddlers. The soft colors and simply told story will be popular with very young toddlers, With only 12 thick pages and 22 different words, this board book may also appeal to the very early reader.

What were they thinking?
I was appalled when I read this book. It talks about the little boy Oliver being upset about a new baby. But goes on to say that he will put the Mom and baby in a trash can and hit it with a stick, not feed them, cover them with ashes, and on..... While I'm sure this was meant to be funny. I don't find it that way at all!!! I find it disgusting. Why would you even want to put these ideas in a kids head. Maybe they can't put the Mom in a garbage can, but they may try to put the baby in one. I can't believe a book like this was published.

funny, yet sensitive
This is a humorous look at how a young boy responds to his mother's pregnancy. Older children will emphathize with his emotions, and his feelings are dealt with in a sensitive fashion. Not the very best "new baby is coming" book, but funny and a good addition to a collection.

Outstanding way for children to experience negative feelings
When mom is about to have a new baby, it is natural for children to feel jealous, upset, insecure. It is difficult for a young child to articulate or understand these feelings. This book enables a child to see that others have negative feelings also, that it is acceptable to voice those feelings, and that mom understands. It is better for children to voice their negative feelings than to stuff those thoughts inside and act on them later. Martha Alexander has written a wonderful story which allows children and parents to recognize themselves in the characters. My children love this book and want to read it over and over again, as will yours.
