this wonderful book is ideal for little children. it is a fun interactive book that encourages childrens' imagination. I first read this book when i was in the third grade. Now i am a freshmen in college and i saw this book and had to get it

Being a Reading Specialist working with at risk readers from first grade through fourth grade, any book that makes them want to read is a winner with me. My fourth graders wanted the information on how to find the book! The book also gave us a reason to review nursery rhymes without feeling that it is a "baby" thing for fourth graders to do.

We got this for our daughter for Christmas. That was a year ago. We have read this book to her at least once a week since then. It is one of her all-time favorites. We don't mind reading it over and over because we love it too. Such Fun! This year, she's getting another "Jolly Postman" book. She'll be thrilled!

Many people don't know it, but a stuffed animal's personality is formed when he or she is made in the factory. And when a teddy bear is sewn with slightly crooked eyes and a tight mouth, it can make that bear a bit of a snob. So how can that bear stand the indignity when he's taken home by Mrs. Broom, treated as a doll by her youngest daughter, threatened by George the pyromaniac, and carted away by the rag and bone man? And that's just the beginning of our teddy's adventures! A very clever book, full of warmth, with and wordplay, and one that adults will enjoy right along with their children. An excellent book!

This is my favorite book of all time. It's sad but sweet. A teddy bear is made in a factory with a proud looking face, and is very vain. No one seems to want him, and he goes through many and many owners, all which treat him with no love or care. Over the years, he gets very worn and old looking, and as all of his experiences have taught him, he becomes not so selfidh anymore and thinks about others. In the end he finally finds his place, which makes it a happy ending.

THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ. IT HAS AN IMAGINATIVE STORYLINE BUT A REALISTIC GROUNDING. THE READER ITSELF TAKES THE ROCKY JOURNEY WITH THIS TEDDY BEAR INTO ADVENTURE AND FEELS EACH EMOTION WITH THE CHARACTER. NOT ONLY WILL THIS BOOK LEAVE THE READER REFRESHED BUT IT WILL MAKE A SOFT SPOT IN EACH OF YOUR HEART'S FOR ALL THAT IS AROUND YOU. IF NOT MY WORD TAKE THE WORD OF THE OTHER REVIEWERS FOR THIS BOOK MOST DEFINITLY BELONGS IN THE BEST OF THE BEST SELECTION OF OUR TIME!

I just LOVE this book. First of all, I love picture books of songs, they combine our two favourite activities. I also love what the author has done with the traditional song - he's turned it into a logical and wonderful story which makes sense, rather than just a succession of things. It's become a story of a 1 yr old and her/his extended loving family. The illustrations are superb. My daughter (now 25 months) has loved it since we got it from the library about 3 months ago. (obviously we had to buy a copy!) She has it all memorized, knows exactly where to turn the page, she loves to sing it over and over. A perfect bedtime book... I can hear her now: " an' maybe hab a dream od a mockin' biiiirrrrd" with an appropriate final flourish to the song!

Ahlberg presents a new variation on an old Anglo-originating lullaby, where loved ones promise to give a baby an assortment of gifts-- each one determined by the last. The sum is a cyclical verse of rhyme and repetition, utilizing a litany form. Beautiful illustrations accompany the timeless text.

My 2-year-old loves books about babies and this is one of our favorites. We sing it every night as part of her bedtime routine. The book is beautifully illustrated and each page offers lots of opportunities to point out objects to help build vocabulary. This is a "must-have" for every baby's library

We LOVED this book - What a wonder sense of humor this author has! It's great take off on some standard fables. I wish I could by this book for each and every child between the ages of 4 & 7.

The best thing about this book for me was the fact that I, as an adult, could enjoy it as much as the children. It is totally different to any other children's book I have read. I found it to be witty, charming, and imaginative.

The story sounds like something thought up by a parent and young child, with ideas from both, and some teasing from the parent. Altogether a great read, and something I would definitely reccommend to young readers

A smart little monkey finds keys to the cage and, once he frees himself, embarks on a rhyming adventure, eating Baby's banana, saving a stranded kitty, romping all over town, only to find himself back in the arms of his monkey mom. Reminds me of "Goodnight, Gorilla", plot-wise, but has an original tone. I love it!

Monkey Do! is a fantastic childrens book. I have bought this for all my grandchildren. They are ages 5,4 and 6 months. It is entertaining and easy for them to read with me. The illustrations and the large type make it move fast and the children do not get bored. They story keeps you wondering what is going to happen next. We also look at the illustrations and talk about what is going on. Monkey Do!is more than a story it is an interactive book that looks at a normal family's life in one day when a monkey gets involved.

This is a wonderful story of a postman's route to deliver the mail to well known fairy tale characters. This book is unique because its pages form actual envelopes with letters in them. They are addressed on the front of the page. Some of the characters receiving the letters include: The Three Bears, THe Wicked Witch, The Giant, Cinderella, The Big Bad Wolf, and Golilocks. This story could be used in the the classroom during a lesson on letter writing and addressing envelopes. The story would interest the students and motivate them to write their own letters. Also, the book could be read during a unit on community helpers when discussing the jobs of a postman.

This was one of my favorite books when I was very little. I remember that there was a lot of funny letters, one having to do with a witch. A good book for kids just learning to read or for someone reading to a little kid, I remember my second grade teacher reading this to us.

In this book, the Jolly Postman is delivering the mail to the residents of a quaint fairy tale village, and you get to read all the letters -- even the junk mail! Every other page is an envelope with some type of correspondence tucked inside. The Three Bears get a handwritten apology from Goldilocks, complete with misspellings and invitation to a birthday party. The occupant of Gingerbread Bungalow in The Woods, who happens to be the Wicked Witch, gets an advertising circular from Hobgoblin Supplies Ltd. A certain snout-nosed grandma gets a demand letter addressed to Mr. B.B. Wolf from Miss Riding-Hood's attorney, who also states, "On a separate matter, we must inform you that The Three Little Pigs Ltd. are now firmly resolved to sue for damages. . .all this huffing and puffing will get you nowhere." Some of the funniest moments in this book come from the illustrations of the Jolly Postman stopping for tea with each mail delivery. At the Wicked Witch's cottage, he peruses the newspaper, the Mirror Mirror, while the witch reads her mail and her black cat does the dishes. At Cinderella's castle, he enjoys a glass of champagne poured by Prince Charming, who is still in his honeymoon Hawaiian print shirt and white slacks. This book is perfect for sharing one on one with a child, but if there aren't any children available, it's also amusing for solitary adults.

I bought this for my daughter when she was 1 yr. old but she was not interested. Now at 17 mos. old she won't go to bed until we read this book. All I have to say is "go get peek-a-boo" and she runs into her room and grabs the book. If read in a low key voice this book works great at night because the last page has the baby in his crib ... what did he see? It's a very sweet and different book for young children.

This book is great to start teaching your child the old game of peek-a-boo. The book is about what a little baby sees through the day. The baby can see through the circular cut holes through to the next page. Each page is a different scene in the day in the life of the family. To me it is amusing to see just how cluttered the family in the story is.

All three of my children have liked this book. It is worth the purchase!

Based on the "peek-a-boo" game familiar to many babies, the poem prompts the toddler to "peek" at a variety of scenes in the life of a very chaotic family. Rhyme and repetition are used. The silent stress caesura is incorporated in order to present a familiar nursery rhyme-type feel for the listener. Many people have found this to be their own child's favorite book. There's a lot to look at!

This book is fun for children and adults because of the appearance of characters from classic nursery rhyme characters and storybook classics. Each page features a familiar character amidst the beautiful illustrations.. Sequencing is a major feature of this simple volume, which arrives, full circle back to the opening character, Tom Thumb, having plum pie with the entire round of characters. This book is described as gentle, however, Baby Bear has dire need of some gun safety classes, and it is possible that some children may be disturbed by the close calls that Baby Bunting has that result from Baby Bear's lack of control over his hunting rifle. I know I was! The incidences inside provide a teachable moment about guns. Beautiful pictures; enchanting text. Possibly lots of questions and conversations.

I bought this book for my kids because the title was so familiar to me. After reading the first page, I realized that I read this one as a child. This book has wonderful illustrations. You'll want to give your child some time to soak up the content of each picture. Children love books that offer them a chance to participate, and this one definitely does that. The rhyming words are fun to read for the beginner, and even adults can't help but shout out, "I spy Tom Thumb!"

I was introduced to this book during my language arts class for elementary education majors. Our wonderful professor read this book to us as a read aloud experience. All of us being adults was abosolutely fasinated by this book. We were all trying to find the charatcers on each page and each one of us fell in love with this book. This book is so much fun but it also gives young children the chance to learn how to read by hearing the rhyming words used throughout the book. I have read this book to several children and I cannot express to you enough how much each one of them love this book. Please purchase this book!!!!!!!!! I insure you it will be a treasure for your child and you as well.

I was surprised that this book had so few words in it - maybe that's what makes it so popular with my 3 year old and 20 month old! (Me, too!) The pictures are lively, Bert is built like a sausage with legs and red hair, and is as unthreatening and jolly a protagonist I've seen in children's books. The kids love having to say "Hallo" , then "Good night" to Bert and Mrs. Bert - and the beginning and end, when they are instructed to turn thepage very, very quietly, so as not to wake baby Bert - then find baby Bert yelling "Waaaaaa" on the next page - "Now look what you've done!" - hysterical every time. They start snorting and chuckling before I've even turned the page. This book is a surprise favorite. I'm very glad I bought it as I was disappointed at first it was so short - it's silly, happy, and delightful and I would advise anyone who has a 1 - 4 year old to buy it.

A great first "chapter book". The book is interactive with places to say hello & goodnight to the characters. My son laughs out loud in several places. The artwork is really fun.

My 4 year old son and I don't tire of this book.

It is light and funny. It is short enough to be a quick "bedtime" read. And my son is totally captivated by the 2 places where you have to "turn the page very quietly, or else you'll wake up the baby"...... He still gets a huge kick out of it, even though he is now almost 5 years old and we have read the book dozens of time.

The Jolly Pocket Postman is a book that most people can enjoy. It takes pieces of childre's fairy tales and combines them to form an adventure for the postman. The book is written in rhymes which makes the book fun to read and listen to.

the book uses olorful illustrations with relaxing tones. the pictures appear humorous with random objects incorparated in them. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and recommend it to everyone with young children.

I enjoyed the Jolly Pocket Postman because I liked all the little letters. My favorite part was when the Postman drank the tea and started to shrink. I would suggest this book out of a lot of other books, and I also like the other books of the Postman. the only thing I didn't like is that it ended.R.Suelzle
