The Gift
I have been a huge fan of Phil Borge's photography for years and was delighted to see that he recently published The Gift. Not only are the photographs fantastic, but the narratives that coincide with the photos really bring the book to life.

Besides belonging in anyone's library, this book is a perfect gift. It chronicles both the generosity and selflessness of the Interplast volunteers, and it highlights the triump of the human spirit. It makes you understand the impact that one human being can have on another human by sharing the gifts that are natural to them. It is nice to read about this type of humanity during a time when we are constantly bombarded with negative media images.

This is such a beautiful book!!
I recently purchased "The Gift" because I have two other books by Phil Borges -- "Tibetan Portrait" and "Enduring Spirit" -- which both have incredibly beautiful portraits and stories. I couldn't get through "The Gift" without crying; the images of the children are so beautiful and touching, and their stories are amazing. They are all so brave! This is a very special book.

Little Ester is my favorite
my daughter recently gave me this book for my birthday; it is a wonderful, beautiful book. The stories and images of individual patients are especially moving; my favorite is Ester, one of the little girls treated at the hospital in Peru. there are some wonderful photographs of her comforting her dolls the night before her surgery, tucking them into their own bed and telling them not to be afraid ... she must have been so anxious herself. Her story really stands out in my mind.

A great realistic look at the Vietnam War
Mr. Gazzaniga is a former Marine who has been there and writes from experience. His book, A Few Good Men, tells it like it is. Plain and simple. It's too bad this book is out of print because it's a great read. If you can find a copy of this book, get it.

Indispensable
Three individually published volumes in the Past Masters Series are now published together. Written by three authorities on their subjects, this volume offers a very good balance between the lives and the work of three great economists. Indispensable for the beginner, the three essays are original scholarly contributions to the history of economic thought. They are also a delight to read.

best book in its classification
An Uncommon Scold, compiled and arranged by Abby Adams, is far and away the best book of women's quotations on the market today, and I have read them all. Ms. Adams' compilation and arrangement are superb, and her selection of subject and author within the 1,000 quotations is to be commended. Every library should offer this clever and witty book. A must-own for all fans of the genre. Reviewer H. Gordon Havens is a photo-journalist, author and lexicographer residing in Independence, Missouri.

Winnicott
Published in Hardcover by Harvard Univ Pr (December, 1989)

Excellent primer on Winnicott
Renowned, revered, kind-hearted D.W. Winnicott (1896-1971) was a pediatrician and then a child analyst whose contributions to theories of child development and psychology (mothering, love, language, attachment, dependency, anxiety and many other topics) were enormous. Phillips' book illuminates Winnicott's body of work and includes a chronology. The tone is respectful and insightful and Phillips' knack for skillful explanation and analysis is here. But he knows Winnicott's work -- and life -- by heart, and has written extensively on him elsewhere, and occasionally in this work he meshes the two -- biography and work -- so seamlessly that I wished for more. As an intro to Winnicott's ideas, this is first-rate.

Aiming at the Full Life
The Full Life Study Bible is an excellent publication. If you are looking for an NIV Bible with the larger 35000 Concordance ( sadly lacking from most Concordance editions these days in favour of the reduced 13000 listing) and copious Study Notes and Articles from a more charismatic perspective - then this Bible could be the one for you. The leather Bibles are beautifully bound and well presented. The Study Notes are situated at the bottom of the pages whilst Articles on various aspects of 'Spirit Filled' Living are placed throughout the book, rather than together in one place ( which may not suit everyone, although they are clearly indexed). The quality of the notes, written by Donald C Stamps, are excellent. The stance taken is both evangelical and charismatic - although I would not agree with all his interpretations. For example he argues that a born again Christian cannot have a demon. There is also a strong push on holiness ( good) but frequent warnings that a lack of full commitment to Christ could lead to a loss of salvation ( sure?). There is a hint, in my view, that a few comments are a little harsh. That said, a postive view is taken on the Gifts of the Spirit for all believers, standards of morality and Divine Healing, and many other areas. Other features you may favour include words of Christ in red, cross references in a centre column and Bible book summaries at the beginning of each book.

Definately to be used in your everyday life!
This Study Bible has a good balance of practical, devotional, and theological study notes and articles. It helps the reader understand how the truths of the Bible are still relevent and available for us today, especially for those who desire to see the Holy Spirit work in the Church today as He did in the New Testament. A must for every Spirit-filled believer or anyone who wants more of God in his/her life. I use it all the time in my personal life and in pastoral ministry.

A Great Study Tool
I find this study bible to be an excellent source to study God's word. It has so many wonderful study notes as well as in depth articles on various important topics that Christians need to know about. I would highly recommend it for every Christian's library.

Truly spirit filled, doctrinally sound treasure
A great legacy left by missionary Don Stamps even as he was battling cancer. His Spirit-filled teaching is evident in the editing. Especially significant is the Spirit inspired work he did on editing this version of the Holy Bible. The explanatory notes and the wonderful articles answer questions which other Bible teachers and commentaries usually avoid or are simply in error on. Thank God for this wonderful discovery and I heartily recommend it to all in search of, the abundant, "full life" in Jesus as taught in the Word of God.

This Bible Will Change Your Life!!!
I own this Bible and it is changing my life for the better. The title of this Bible "Full Life Study Bible" says it all--it definitely applies to a full life! The clear in depth convicting study notes will not only challenge your paradigms and beliefs, it will change them, thus changing your life. A good starter Bible! I would definitely recommend the KJV over the NIV as the KJV is much more accurate with respect to the original Bible texts. In fact, I wish the Geneva Bible was available in a Full Life Study version. Buy this Bible, it is well worth whatever you pay for it!

Excellent Tarkington Novel
One of the better Tarkington tales I've read. An upbeat and at times humorous story about a middle class family and their two early 20-year-old children ( one boy and one girl ). The girl, Alice Adams, is the focus of the story, as she struggles to be liked by the town's society folks. She doesn't have the social prestige nor the money to attract many beaus.

This leads to turmoil, and Mrs. Adams tells her husband to leave the mediocre paying job he's had all his life to start his own company so they can be rich and pay their children "advantages". He does this, after many trepidations, but the basis of his newfound business is a stolen glue formula from his previous employer. This ultimately leads to his demise.

There is a bit more to this story, but all in all, it is a story of class envy, snobbery, and greed. Tarkington's main point, however, seems to be that every dark tunnel of life ultimately has some other exit that inevatibly lead to light -- as even in the Adams's darkest hour their was hope yet.

Very cute
Alice Adams was funny and definitely some good quality writing. At first I thought it might be too old-fashioned since it was written in the early 1900's, but when I read it I was able to compare Alice's desire to be popular to teenage girls today. My only negative thought about this book is that some characters especially the mother, repeated things a lot. The mother had several lines that she said at least 5 times throughout the book, and that was somewhat annoying. Otherwise the book was great!

ALICE ADAMS
Booth Tarkington is one of my favorite authors. Noone captures the spirit of the person better than he does. The way he makes Alice Adams come alive makes me want to be there and meet this wonderful young lady. If an author can make me want to do that, he is excellent in my book.
The movie ending is the opposite of the book ending, which disappointed me, because I wanted it to be true to the book. Nevertheless, I also wanted Alice to have her dreams come true. If you really absorb yourself in the book, however, you will see that her dream DOES come true, just not necessarily the way you want it to.
There is also the beautiful way he paints the whole family into the book. I won't give it away, but you will see the intricacies woven in.
I found myself totally absorbed in the story and couldn't stop reading it.
Please read this book! You will love it!
