Prostate cancer data simplified
As a person who's spent hundreds of hours researching and reading about prostate cancer over the last four years, I picked up Lange and Adamec's new book with misgivings that quickly changed into affirmative head-nodding. I found the book to be well-organized, and as I scanned and flipped back and forth through its coverage of all the big questions, I concluded this is a book that has long been needed. Although the book is in the DUMMIES series, it is from start to finish a first-rate professional and easily-readable treatment of a complex and deadly serious subject -- prostate cancer. Whether it's one's first foray into the shifting world of prostate cancer data, treatment and research or one wants to double-check what one has learned, this is THE book to buy.

A reliable and clearly-written guide for eldercare givers
This book is a lifesaver. I've been providing eldercare for several months, and I've looked for books to help me deal with a range of caregiving issues. Many books treat the reader like an moron. This one treats you like an intelligent adult. It starts with an overview of eldercare, then deals with organizing finances and records, different options for where your elder can live, and legal and social issues. What I liked best, though, was all the human elements it discussed. I've been able to get the legal information elsewhere. But only here have I seen a really helpful discussion of how tricky it is to deal with exhaustion, anger, and stress, and especially how to deal with other family members! Eldercare is not just about the caregiver and elder--there are a lot of personalities involved, and by reading this book, I realized someone else out there understood this and was willing to give good advice. I've recommended the book to friends who are facing what I'm going through--that's the highest praise I can give.

Writing style is too simplistic
Although this book contains most of the information that prospective parents need, the writing style was too simplistic for my taste. The author went so far as to define adoption, warning the reader that adoption is not temporary. My husband and I much preferred the Adoptoin Resource Book by Gilman.

Excellent book!!...
When beginning our adoption process this book was a life saver! It helped us figure out which adoption journey was best for us and explained each part of the process. It is an easy read and a perfect place to start when researching adoption. I have referred it to all my friends that are considering adoption and they have all raved about it as well. I referred to this book all throughout our process. It was definitely the best book I bought on adoptions. We are now the proud parents of a little angel from Russia and are currently waiting for another angel from Russia. If you're in the process of adopting, either domestically or internationally, buy this book, you'll be glad you did!

Don't let the title fool you! This is a great book!
This book is chock full of information on every aspect of adoption, including domestic, international, older child, special needs, transracial, state regulations, single parents, etc. I love it! My adoption counselor even bought a few copies for her office library!

Your heart will indeed benefit from this book!
One major problem faced by many---perhaps most---patients is trying to understand the jargon their doctors spout at them. But that hurdle is not perpetuated by Dr. Anil Minocha in his truly superior book HOW TO STOP HEARTBURN. Subtitled "Simple Ways to Heal Hearburn and Acid Reflux," this book indeed delivers what it promises.

It's written in plain English with medical terms and techniques kept to a minimumn; nearly all are explained clearly, simply. Example: in the very first sentnce, Dr. Minocha writes that what doctors call "gastroesophageal reflux disease" is what real people call "heartburn."

The book is comprehensive; the index lists hundreds of topics from "abominal pain" to "Zyban," a drug that "reduces the desire to smoke." ("Smoking is a major contributor to the development of (heartburn)." (page 228) The 17 chapters and four appendixes cover such diverse topics as the causes of hearburn, how physicians diagnosis it, finding remedies that work, related illnesses such as peptic ulcers and some hernias, when surgery is needed---even alternative treatments such as yoga, juice therapy, acupressure, and other offbeat remedies.

A major section of the book covers "Lifestyle Changes that Work"---eating, sleeping, weight loss, stress reduction, and more.

A glossary explains many key words, including barium swallow, dosha, manometry, proton pump inhibitor, etc.

Should you think you don't need this book, consider these facts that Dr. Minocha presents: hearburn "is one of the most common diseases in North America;" "about 55 million (20% of our population) suffer from it;" Americans "spend over $2 billion a year on over-the-counter heartburn medications." Yet one study documented that more than half of hearburn sufferers who took antacids "for more than ten years developed serious illnesses."

The author is recognized worldwide as an authority of what he's written about. Among his very imnpressive credentials is his being Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology for the School of Medicine, Southern Illinois University.

The book's last chapter is encouraging. It points out that research for new remedies is extensive. One the horizon are new medications "to block acid secretion;" surgery that "does not require an incision;" "genetic advances;" and more.

But don't want: if you suffer from heartburn, seek professional help NOW---and one of the best places to start is by reading this book.

Some very good reading and information.
Ever eat to fast or for that matter to much? Ever have that last bowl of chili and get the worst case of heartburn? Ever see those commercials that say they cure all? Ever wonder if they told you the truth? After reading this book you might find that what you have heard before is exactly the way it works.

Broken down into 4 parts this books starts off with what causes heartburn, looking at medical history, what medications work and are there any alternatives available. The Doctor really seems to know what he talking about.

Part 2 takes a look at similar illnesses and what you can do, Part 3 is a detailed explanation of different situation like surgery and pregnancy and what you need to do and look out for.

Finally in Part4 the Doctor makes serious recommendation as to the changes you may or will have to make in your life such as stress, weight, sleeping and the eating patterns. Overall I found this book well documented and well organized.

The best book on heartburn yet !
Superb contribution. Provides specific suggestions to help heart burn sufferers. As a heartburn sufferer I definitely benefitted from reading this book. It is written in a way that is easy to understand and implement I believe this book stands head and shoulders above similar books on Gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD). Dr Minocha and Ms Adamec have written the definitive guide for the lay public. We owe them our thanks

Empathy and practical information
Fibromyalgia for Dummies has great info on what causes fibromyalgia, what it really feels like (with many anecdotes from people with fibromyalgia) and what you can DO about it, including medications, lifestyle changes, and much more. And if your doctor thinks fibromyalgia is a pretend problem (as some still do), the book tells you how to find a new doctor who understands and will help you. Written in the easy-to-understand style of the Dummies, the authors explain fibromyalgia in a caring and helpful way. If you have fibromyalgia or think that you may have it, you need Fibromyalgia for Dummies.

every paients dream
This book was a helpful guide for my family and I. It gives solid scientific information and states findings in an easy to read and entertaining way. I would recommend this to all fibro patients and their families, especially as the first book to conquer on the subject. There are chapters specificly written for those who are not suffering directly from fibro but are dealing with loved ones who are. Over all a friendly and unique approach to a diffucult health condition!

A Reader from New Hampshire
This book has unique information that I haven't found anywhere else, such as.. women have more pain then men and Dr. Staud's studies that have shown that people who have fibromyalgia do, in fact, experience real pain. This is a don't miss book for anyone who has fibromyalgia or who has a loved one suffering from fibromyalgia.

Nothing either new or helpful for those with some knowledge
I am an adult woman with ADD, mother of two, so I was looking forward to hearing a different voice than you usually encounter in ADD books for the general public. Instead, it was pretty much fragmented kinds of suggestions and actually ended up making me feel less competent as a mother than I really am.

Homeschooling is HARDER with ADD???? No way!
I feel as if I've read everything in this book in other books. It was positive, as some of the other reviewers stated, but it lacked some concrete examples of things that might help *me.*

If a mother was just beginning to learn about ADD and how to manage "it" in her life, then I think this would be a nice place to start. But if an ADDer has already done the info-junkie bit, then I would skip this one.

BTW, homeschooling has been far, far easier for me than sending my children to school. When my kids were in school there were all of these artificial outside schedules that did nothing for our home or our learning styles. I can focus on having fun with my kids now instead of on whether they like the meatloaf being served in the cafeteria, need a permission slip returned, had homework, were supposed to stay after school for an activity (or worse, needed to be picked up early because of a shortened school day!) Homeschooling RULES!

Helpful
While not comprehensive, and sometimes focusing too much on kids with ADD, I found it good to have the particularly scattering job of parenting, esp. young kids, discussed by ONE WHO KNOWS. Now if I can just remember where I put the book.....

Not the only book with adoption professionals info
I am an avid reader of adoption books and this title is not the only book that has adoption professional info as Ms. Adamec states. There are others on the market in which cover all types of adoption professionals-agencies, attorneys, facilitators, counselors, consultants, adoption-service providers, etc.

Disappointed
While the book touched on the highlights of requirements for adoption, I was disappointed that it did not go into further depth of the entire process. The majority of the book consisted of listings of certain requirements of agencies throughout the U.S. I was hoping for a little more guidance through the process.

Adoption Option
This book was very informative; however, most of the book lists adoption agencies in all 52 states. While this is helpful, it is almost the entire book. This book is not a one-stop adoption resource book. The book should go more indept as to the different steps involved. For instance, the book mentions home study; however, there is no mention as to what exactly is a home study. What are they looking for, what kind of questions do they ask, etc. I think this book is worth buying, because it does have a lot of information in it, but you will need to buy other books as well.
