Claremont's Best Comic book work ever.
Chris's best comic book story ever was not the X-Men, but with Star Trek; Debt of Honor. It is a sequal to the fourth Star Trek movie, but it also covers the 25 years of Trek history that featured the original Trek crew. Federation, Klingons, and Romulans must put aside their differences to stop one of the galaxy's most sinister theats. Great reading for long time Trek fans like myself and I hope newer Trek fans check it out as well.

Good First Step
I picked up a copy of the original 1935 version of this book and gave it a chance. This is not an area that I normally read so at first I did not know what to expect. I am also not an overly religious person so I do not have a large stock of other books to compare it to. I found that the book was well written and easy to move through. I was concerned it would be a little high handed, but it was not. It was full of information that was beneficial. You certainly gain a positive view of the church from the book and it has spurned me on to look for more titles on the subject. If you are like me, a first time reader in the area this was a good way to start.

Talking to all of each part of the human person
German theologian Karl Adam makes here the best case I have yet found for the following proposition: The Catholic faith not only speaks to all people, it speaks to each part of every person. Adam knew, and showed, how rich the Catholic faith is, from art and literature to intellectual and architectural cathedrals; from piety and community to mysticism. Each part of a person is addressed: the intellectual, the affective (or emotional), and the imaginative. And each part is brought together with the others to form a beautiful, brilliant, and vibrant whole.

Adam shows the teachings of the Church as lived realities. They are beautiful, intellectually sound, and viscerally charged. lamentably, contemporary writings about the Church's loveliness tend to fall miles beneath the august standard here set.

Though written in the 1920s, this book's appeal is not primarily historical. It presents a fresh vision of what the Catholic life may yet again be, and inspires one's journey toward that lovely horizon.

Excellent book
This book helped me immensely with my apologetics "homework", especially concerning communion of the saints and other issues that are so alien to Protestants. The book is extremely well written and contains so much information that I haven't found in one source anywhere else. If you are sitting on the theological fence then this book is a MUST read!

WARNING: This review is a bit of a sham.
I say that because I'm going from memory - I had a copy of this when it first came out, but when the "Enterprise" premiere rekindled my interest in "Star Trek" a few weeks ago, I couldn't find it. I've ordered another copy, but it's not here yet, so I can only go on the fond memories that prompted me to reorder it.

At any rate, I recall being especially fond of this GN for two reasons: one was that, unlike most of the Trek comic products coming out at the time, it had great art; the other was its nice nostalgic touches, like the appearance of Jamie Finney (from the classic episode "Court Martial") as a Starfleet officer. I'm very much looking forward to having it in my library again.

Impressive!
This is Chris Claremont's tribute to the original Star Trek, with a story that spans the time from Kirk's days on the Farragut to the time period after Star Trek IV. Several favorite old characters return, but this is not simply a two-bit rehash of old stories and characters: Kirk and company "explore strange new worlds;" they "seek out new life and new civilzations." Claremont boldly goes where no one has gone before. Highly recommended.

for photo editors and students of Edward Tufte
If you're a student of Edward Tufte's work on small multiples, this is a great book. By comparing lots of fairly similar things within one visual field, one can learn a lot. That's a Tufte insight and this book shows that Blossfeldt was taking advantage of the idea 75 years ago. This book is also good for those who appreciate the beauty of contact sheets and the photo editing process. The book makes a great gift due to its unusual nature and extremely high printing quality.

WONDERFUL
This book give us a new look!

Weapon X (Marvel Comics X-Men Deluxe)

A happy Logan, in a world gone to hell
When the Legion Quest storyline ended, an alternate universe was created due to the fact that Legion went back in time to kill Magneto but accidently killed Charles Xavier. Since Xavier died, there was no X-Men to stop Apocalypse from taking over America and most of the world. This alternate reality, The Age of Apocalypse, put all the regular X-books on hold for four issues and replaced them with they're AoA versions. Weapon X (Wolverine) tells the storyline revolving around Logan (he is not called Wolverine in this alternate reality) who in all his long lifetime in the regular X-universe was never able to find happiness. In the Age of Apocalypse, Logan is finally with the woman he loves: Jean Grey, and he couldn't be happier (then again he is missing a hand). The intense love and emotion between the two should be seen to be believed. Logan has an early run in with Havok, and we learn the past between Logan and Cyclops (in this reality Cyclops and Havok are servants to Apocalypse) and how Jean Grey ties in (to find out a bit more read the X-Man TPB). Eventually Jean must leave Logan to find out some info, and Logan has a few battles with Pierce and other cyborgs. Carol Danvers and Gateway make some appearances, but sometimes the action lags and the story can become a bit incoherent. The art is great and Logan's narration is as well, and is sometimes darkly hilarious. All in all, this is a good chapter in the Age of Apocalypse saga.

In hell on earth - one man finally found his hapiness
Welcome to hell on earth. North America is ruled by an evil mutant called Apocalypse. His kingdom only lives by one rule: Survivial of the fittest. Humans are regarded as the lower class and even not all mutants will be survive in this world. This all happened because Professor Charles Xavier never existed. Thus he never got to form the X-Men to appose Apocalypse.

To prevent Apocalypse from taking over the rest of the world, the Human High Counsil in Europe decide to bomb the US - making sure Apocalypse doesn't go any further. They are aided by Weapon X and his one true love, Jean Grey. If you know Wolverine, you know that his life has been hell in the original timeline. But in this one, where everyone is in danger, he is happy - because he is with the one who he truly loves. And he sacrificed one of his hands for her.

This induvidual story is quite good and it features a nice cameo from Carol Danvers. The art is above average and the usual narration by Logan is present as well.

These stories won't mean much if you haven't read this AoA storyline from the start. If you get this, I recommend you get all the other AoA TPBs too. For a complete reading list of it, see my X-Men: LegionQuest review.

The most outstanding tale of the AOA X-men ever conceived
With the most incredible drawings and eloborate storyline, this 4 parter stands head and shoulders ablove any thing else you will ever read in comic book form. Without going into detail of the plot (and ruining the story), this is a perfect world for Logan. If you have followed the life of the man called Logan, you will know only too well that his life has been cursed with tradegy, marred with the failure to find happiness. In this story, in a messed up world filled with familiar messed up people, it brought a tear to my eye to see his one true mission succeed. He is battle hardened, scarred, tortured, not the Logan we know. This would be reason enough to despise the world in which they put him. The only thing available to him which makes me love this world so much is his sidekick, his companion, his soulmate, his best friend and his lover. This book is worth ten times it's cost to see Logan & Jean Gray together. What a perfect world.
