A Splendid Find
Corporate Interiors No. 3 unfolds the highly dynamic interplay of spatial transformation through some very exciting projects, varying from the classically conservative office space to the more blatantly modern conceptions. It highlights the brilliance of the Design firms by focusing on the innovative solutions through each of the 150 projects that comprise it. The photographs add to the visual stimulation, increasing its value far beyond the paper and the ink. A definate must to have around while studying, working or otherwise!

Lucky Me!
Lucky Me, I finally got a copy of this book. I waited about a year before a used one came up on here. This is one of the few books on Ferrocement construction. You buy it for the pictures, and ideas, not for technical reasons. There are better books for that.

A Comprehensive Study of the Work by George Nelson
Although the book is minimal on color illustrations and its strength relies mainly on its text, contrary of what I had expected, I was very pleased with it. It is a very comprehensive study of the work of Nelson, one of the pioneers of American industrial design, giving more importance to the concepts and the process of design, rather than to the produced objects, buildings and exhibitions themselves. The preface by Ettore Sottssass is equally outstanding, as most of his written works are.

An elegant visual book for /about people who love tools
My favorite Christmas gift -- the cover is Red, the stock feels great to the touch, and there's plenty of white space. It's a book and an exhibition in one. It's filled with people who love their work. Work, Life, Tools qualifies as great design. (Hats off Milton Glaser, and to Steelecase for being enlightened enough to fund the exhibition.) This book cum exhibition guide ranks high on the visual, aesthetic and conceptual pleasure scale. My favorite aspect: the way the bios portray the multiple talents and the "I don't just do one thing" truth about their subjects. It's filled with lots of practical ah-has. You get to peek into people's work spaces. It represents a fascinating spectrum of thinking about work. And, it's amazing to me how loyal people are to their fountain pens (as one who's committed to Deluxe Uni-balls.) I loved it!

It has a lot of really nice things to see. It's quite hard to duplicate the things you see in the book but it gives you a lot of great ideas.

A Philosophy of Interior Design (by S. Abercrombie)
There are very few books out there that combine "philosophy" with "interior design." For this reason alone, Abercrombie's book is a worthy contribution to the literature in interior design. One trait of philosophical works is their tendency to identify broad but fundamental categories that, together, describe a particular reality. I take this approach to be what the author means by "a philosophy of" interior design. That is to say, Abercrombie provides a menu of basic categories (plan, room, planes, levels, ornament, furniture, art, details, etc) and parses the reality of an interior built world through these lenses. His examples are good, and the book is well illustrated (although some of the magic of interior experience is not conveyed by the black and white pictures). Another good aspect about this book is this: the author is subtle in not making an arbitrary line of demarcation between "interior design" and "architecture." Even though his categories serve to focus on the topic of interiors, it does so without disconnecting interior design from the domain of architecture in some artificial way - and I think that is as it should be. In other words, this is a worthwhile book for both architects (who sometimes forget about interiors) and interior designers (who sometimes forget about architecture). As one who teaches design and has been in practice for many years, I would consider this book a good fit for those just starting to learn about interior design and/or those who are seasoned designers looking for something of a refresher on the fundamental nature of interior design. As the title implies, the book is not meant to be a "nuts-and-bolts" reference text for the practitioner; it is more of a meditative reflection about the nature of the worlds that the design practitioner can create for others.

A Very Historical Overview of Interiors
I found this book to be loaded with information. The author did an especially good job of incorporating the political, economic, and social context into the discussion of period styles. My main complaint about this book, however, was the complex writing style. It seemed to jump around a lot in attempt to include a basic overview of everything. This became VERY confusing at times. I feel it would be most helpful to someone who already has a solid background in the history of interior/furniture design periods. There was a lot of information about specific arts and crafts of each period (ie. metalwork, ceramics, woodwork).

Excellent! Excellent! Excellent!
As an instructor of Interior Design, I cannot praise this book enough....My students as well as fellow instructors find it an invaluable tool, not only in teaching beginning level courses, but also as a great reference manual after the student graduates....Several of us still have well-worn copies in our offices...Buy this book, you won't be dissapointed!
