Great Book
I bought this book and found it to be well written and easy to understand. I studied it for a few weeks and I was able to pass my technician license test with a 100%! Keep up the great work, John! I recommend this book highly to anyone wanting to get involved in amateur radio.

ALFA & ZULU
The book "ALFA & ZULU" has been a great book for me and my friends. K6YB did a great job of explaining all the answers! I have gotten my Novice and Tech with this book. My friend has recently gotten into the hobby of Amateur radio and I let him borrow the book. It has helped him a lot. I later upgraded to Tech Plus and am trying for the General. My friend is taking the Tech. Thank you for your great book K6YB....

Ride the Airwaves... and join a great hobby!
This is a great book to help both young and old (and everyone in between) learn about amateur radio. John, K6YB, has presented all of the technical concepts and FCC rules and regulations in a light hearted and engaging way that works. Using graphics and text, each idea is explained clearly and matched with the appropriate questions from the FCC Techincian License Question Pool. For anyone interested in becoming an amateur radio operator, this book should be their first choice!

Fans finally see how A&C Meet Frankenstein is created.
For years. The fans of Abbott & Costello wanted to find out how their most famous film parody of horror movies"Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein!"came about.A few books have come to light in recent years:"Movie Comedy Teams"by Leonard Maltin,"The Abbott & Costello Book"By Jim Mullholland and:"Abbott & Costello In Hollywood!"by Ron Palumbo & Bob Furnemack.Now..As a companion to These three manuscripts is the paperback edition of the film's script.Film historian Phil Riley has found an early draft of the script that shows us all scenes and dialogue that never appeared in the final release print:"Oh Oh! And Up Pops The Devil","You're not going to leave me with all of this work"."You're not suppose to throw away all of that fat wasite".etc in terms of the film's dialogue. There is one scene that was never used in the film and sadly. It prohibieted Poor Lou from using his improvational skills as a true movie clown. The scene has "Dracula"(Bela Lugosi)using his hyponotic powers to lure poor"Wilber Brown"(Costello)back into the castle for the brain transplaint.Lou keeps trying to run away. But the power of the evil vampire's spell is so strong that he is constantly being pulled back into the castle via the cave entrance. He finds a rock and sits there."Dracula"(Bela) by now is getting madder than hell! And he says to "Wilber"(Lou)"I Said Come Back!"."Wilber Brown"sits on the rock and says"'No! I'm sitting right here and I'm not going back!".Until both Lou and the rock are zipped back into the cave and into the evil clutches of "Dracula"(Bele Lugosi) and "Dr.Sandra Morney"(Lenore Aubert). The book also shows some photos from the film and some wonderful behind the scenes candid pictures from the cast members, the film's director(Charlie Barton),The film's producer(Bob Arthur)and Dialogue Director(Norman Abbott..Bud's newphew)and the members of the Abbott & Costello families. There are also some thoughts about the making of the film from the team's family members and the true story of how this classic parody was conceived and filmed by the book's author:Mr.Riley.For fans of horror movies and for fans of classic comedy movies. This is one book to have in your collection.Bravo Phil! Kevin S.Butler.

Magicimage Filmbooks Presents Abbott and Costello Meet Frank
This is a great treasure for Abbott and Costello fans as well as Chaney, Lugosi, or Universal fans. The pictures alone are worth the price of the book. The script is still titled "The Brain of Frankenstein" and includes deleted scenes which further add to the story. As someone who has seen the film many times the added info gives new insights as to the characters performances.

comic duo's best film.
Classic horror film stars meet legendery comic duo make for great film and great book. behind the scenes info with rare photographs and insight into the relationships with all protagonist's. Also critic's reviews and posters and billboards from the orginal time of film's release.

One of a Kind Book - for becoming a Ham !
Compared to so many other dull-reading license manuals that one has for introducing newcomers to Amateur Radio,'Ride the Airwaves with Alfa & Zulu' is a one of kind book for becoming a ham- and it's an excellent learning tool for students of all ages. Every question in the FCC Technician License Pool is covered, and all the information is worded and portrayed in ways that make learning a lot of fun and very easy to comprehend. The best feature of this book are the hundreds of illustrations that explain what's going on. Without question, anyone who is interested in becoming a ham ought to read K6YB's excellent book-for the book is one of kind when it comes to showing one 'what ham radio is all about' - and helping them to earn their first ticket. ride the airwaves with alpha & zulu
Hi, again, John Abbott has again produced a "SUPER" book that will assist those non-technical types, kids, and (older) kids (chuckle) open the door to Amateur Radio. I have used each of his A&Z texts since they first came out. Each time, my students and adults use it new Hams result. Amateur Radio is a great activity for ALL! Others who publish manuals should take a lesson from John and realize everyone does not have to be a tech'y to enjoy the fruitful activities of Amateur Radio. School starts in late August, 2000 for me. Alpha &Zulu will be on my desk and at the radio table. It will shown to my grade-6 class. It will become dog earred, written in, and studied by several of those eager minds. There will be more smiles at test time. There will be more Hams as a result. This book opens the door for future Hams. The more the better!

excellent but obsolete - see newer version from amazon.com
This is an excellent book to either teach or learn enough about amateur radio to get your license. It breaks complex concepts down into ideas presented in a cartoon format. I used it as a teacher with great success. There is an updated version called "Ride the Airwaves with Alpha and Zulu" (as opposed to this older version "Riding the Airwaves with Alpha and Zulu")that is both current and readily available from amazon.com This version does not have the latest changes for F.C.C. tests.

Casually elegant
This relaxed account of one of the most obscure, but possibly most important of the early naturalists is quite a treat for those interested in the field of natural history, those who enjoy a good historical read, or even those who just like to look at the pictures!
John Abbot, like the region in which he worked, was an odd little man who possessed many of the qualities we long for in this country but, some would say, have lost. His tenacity, integrity, adventurousness, artistic ability, and business acumen should have gained him the fame of his more documented colleagues--but then maybe the jewel that is hardest to find shines brightest.
Certainly, this book is a gem. The illustrations are first rate, and the text is even better, with just that touch of British whimsey and the art of understatement to make it all the much better. It is written in an almost off-hand style--but don't be fooled. The research that went into it is first rate and very complete. Relax. This is not the dry, musty tome of History 101--it is full of life but has a casual feel, like a favorite coat that is constantly worn. And that befits the man about whom it is written: a common man, of uncommon traits. Enjoy!!

Natural History and Illustration of John Abbot
This book is one in a series on lesser known artists and naturalists whose work has not been published or received any attention. In July 1773, John Abbot left England and spent the next sixty seven years collecting and painting natural history specimens for clients in England, Europe and the United States. He lived primarliy in Georgia and Virginia and spent all his life working to supply other naturalists and collectors with specimens and paintings of drawings of birds, insects and plants.

This books is a fascintating account of John Abbot, his life and his work. It is also a visual treat and if you are interested in the history of natural history or as a naturalist or a art lover I would highly recommended it. The publisher, Merrell Holberton is publishing a series on other Natural hisory artists that have not been published or are lesser known. Enjoy!!

a must for both parents
This book, written(1833)before the psycho-babble days of Freud and others, is tuned into the realities and seriousness of child rearing. His eloquent and powerful illustrations provoke a parent to focus on the child's soul; not just their mind (i.e. education) or body (i.e.health). He clearly understood that the child will one day grow up; and how you raise him now will effect how he turns out later (proverbs 22:6). I sincerely recommend that both mother and father read it together, and discuss what is read. It has given my husband and I unity in our parenting, and a better understanding of why we do what we do with our children. I reccommend this book to everyone I know who has children. It has been one of the most helpful, to the point, books I have read outside of the Bible.

The classic book of encouragement for moms
This book is a rare find for any mom who wants to excel in her raising of her kids. It focuses on common mistakes parents make and the most reasonable means to solve them. This book is hard to find, I have been looking for it for more than a year. Don't pass it up, you won't be disappointed.

Best photographic Sinatra book, ever.
This is the best-looking coffee table book on Sinatra, with most of the first half based on an excellent essay by John Lahr. For a thorough look at the music, you want Will Friedwald's book, but this one is a classic photo tour of Sinatra's career from Hoboken to the world. I could spend a 1000 words on the pictures, but you can travel back to the 1950s with this one. The large format photos bring home the personality of the subjects, who include Nat Cole, Ava Gardner, Dean Martin, Count Basie and other music icons of the last century. Very enjoyable evening read, also.

Superbly illustrated profile of Sinatra
Of the plethora of books on Frank Sinatra that have been fighting for space on the shelves since his death, this is the best.

A wonderful essay by John Lahr chronicles his life, from the tough streets of Hoboken to a room in Beverly Hills shortly before his 80th birthday. A now well chronicled life, but captured by Mr Lahr in all its complexity and contradiction.

At the heart of this life was his great gift - singing. At the very end, in the Beverly Hills room, surrounded by Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan (what were they doing there?) Steve Lawrence and others, he insisted on singing the solo. It was his right then, as it had been his right throughout his life. And he was undeniable.

A beautifully designed and produced book, it is adorned with a perfect selection of photographs to complement the essay. Look at the faces on page 102, completely transfixed by "The Voice" and see what James Agee called "an erotic dream".

A must have for Sinatra fans, and anyone fascinated by popular culture.

Reading this book should be a pre-requisite !
I think The Ethics of the Ordinary in Healthcare should be on the "must read" list for all who work in the field of Healthcare. All too often, the "little things" that relate both to patient care and relationships of those professionals within the office are overlooked or considered not important. Actually, these are equally important as the "macro" issues in any organization are, and the consequences of ignoring the "micro" aspects of the every day routine,I think, make an enormous difference in both the effectiveness and quality of care in the healthcare organization. A heart-felt "THANK YOU" to the author for bringing this subject to light!

The artist as the perfectionist
This book does an excellent job of exploring the many contradictions of the life and career of an artist who was both his own biggest fan/promoter and his own harshest critic. The book presents the many talents (artist, etcher, interior designer to name a few) and his many flaws (vain, arrogant, bitter and self serving attitude) while still showing the human side of the artist . The illustrations are complete and a glorious showing of both his popular works as well as his less known pieces. The triad of this book, "Diabolical Designs" and "Beyond the Myth" reveal an artist who deserves much more critical and popular attention.
