A Brutal Man's Life Story
John Haggard, egotistical slaveowner and protagonist, romps through this story and the world he inhabits without a care for anyone-not his wife, his mistress, his slaves, or his children. This man's ego, juxtaposed against the backdrop of slavery in the Caribbean, and in England, sends us a chilling reminder that this brutal institution was fueled by brutal, brutish men just like Haggard.

Reader, Clifford Norgate, keeps you captivated with his spellbinding rendering of the characters. While there may be flaws in the writing, they are never betrayed by Norgate's subtle performance of this tragic, historical saga.

This is a must read if you are a fan of this genre. Highly recommended!

Haggard Saga Continues
This second installment in the slave-owning Haggard family saga, continues with the story of the Haggard heirs. Thank God they are nothing like their father, though they still retain many of his rakish ways, though they barely measure up to the brutishness of their father.

Another must read from Nicole!

The Odessey of one woman, who became a legend in the Sahara
Savage Sands is the story of the trials and tribulations of young Catherine Scott, a young beauty from Paris who is abducted from France by a rogue Baron whom works for the Govenor of Algiers. Baron von Ricimer is quite taken by the physical perfection of Catherine, and decides to present her to the ancient Dey for his carnal amusement. She is personally instructed in the arts of the Kama Sutra, and the elderly lord completes her erotic apprenticeship in the bordello. The novel is based on events that actually happened in 1827-30, and we follow Catherine's sensual fate from the ballrooms of Paris to the bedroom of the most powerful man in Algiers, across the savage sands of the Sahara. She is truly an incredible woman, a physical likeness of a Heather Graham, or an Alicia Silverstone. Well written researched, and as fine a piece of historical erotica as was ever written...this novel will leave you wishing a screenplay would be written based on the story. Follow the incredible erotic journey, and the sexual escapades Catherine must go through while she at the same time becomes a legend to the very people she was forced to live among. Highly recommended.

A good soldier's officer - they do exist!
Good read, with a nice view of the period covered (1899-1914), and a very PC young officer - almost anachronistically so, but hey, it IS fiction. Reading about a 'colonial British officer' giving a damn about the colonised sort of goes against the general press they've received, but no doubt they did exist, and Murdoch MacKinder is a nice guy.

I found myself believing his struggles with both his position within the professional and personal spheres, and enjoyed the preparation and de- briefing parts of the action pieces - not just the action itself. Also the comment on the performance of the British higher officers in their context was interesting, if smacking a lot of hindsight: this was the part I found hardest to believe.

I enjoyed it, and found myself searching for the sequel on-line - sez enough for me!
